I've been on this forum now for quite a while and I have been really looking forward to the post viewing debate and chatter but unfortunately as the movie has not yet opened across the Atlantic I can only sit here and hold myself back from disgarding ANY information on the movie! In light of the mostly negative reviews that have been on here from the European fan base I can't help but feel that we have seen nothing yet as to the real outrage and disapointment that will be felt by the North Americans. It's a real shame that it's release couldn't have coincided with that of the rest of the world as it does nothing but create turmoil among all of the fans of this forum and splits us! Yes as a European I'm happy to have had the chance to see the movie first but it's been 2 days and already I feel a little jaded by the seers and non seers bickering! For months we have all shared in the excitement of this movie and I for one feel that it's unfair that one set of fans are able to be afforded the luxury of a full weeks viewing before the other! I'm looking forward to the june 8th opening now as finally most of the forum users will have had the chance to see this movie and therefore the real reflection can start.

so.. did you enjoy it or not? I honestly couldn't be bothered by negative reviews. Most of the films I like had negative reviews all their life-span. Take 2001 as an example. Or David Lynch's Dune. The latest being "the divide" wich I honestly enjoyed. I will only watch Prometheus after June 11th, but, as I said, I couldn't be bothered by all the negativity and spoiler-tastic freaks. Kudos from another European.

To be honest David1 I am really disapointed, but in saying that I really want to see it again. I think I made the mistake, like a lot of others, of expecting something that didn't deliver fully. I personally blame the writers but visually it was a wonderful experience.

Yes I agree the pacing was all off! It was like it was trying to cram 3 hours into 2!

"so.. did you enjoy it or not? I honestly couldn't be bothered by negative reviews. Most of the films I like had negative reviews all their life-span." Exactly! That's why I say to hell with the reviews. Make your own judgment. There are many films I hold dear that weren't always well received.

I just find it hard to believe that the film could be that bad. Knowing the expectations built up for this film and how much these alien films mean to so many, I would think Ridley would have done everything he possibly could to make a high quality film.....

yeah, that's modern cinema in all it's power: cram everything you can, forget experimentalism and by no means shoot more than 1h50 or 2h20 of film. A shame. If Kubrik was alive he would be laughing.

I can't wait for the movie to open in the US as well, as this war between those who have seen it and those who haven't is ridiculous, while the amount of disagreement between those who have seen it is entertaining. I am sure that the reactions across the Atlantic will be the same. Some will be disappointed, some won't and in the end it will just be civil war!
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

By all means you have to make your own mind up on this, I've read some negative reviews and I disagree with them even if I am being negative myself. I had an idea where it was going to go and when that didn't play out I felt disapointed, that along with the script and character building! Although a good friend of mine who shared the same opinion as me has went to see it again and he reckons the second time viewing it is easier and he enjoyed it a lot more! Even with my disapointment I'm still itching to get back to the theatre and see this film a second time! surely that says something!

I'm in the US but from what I'm reading, do we still think there will be a Prometheus 2 after all of the negative reviews?

Yeap i think there will be a 2! and possibly a 3! dunno how or why, but even with the bad reviews its being watched and people like me are goin back to watch it again as at times you like a film more 2nd time around... Look guys leave ur alien goggles behind when you go to watch this, its a stand alone film which they have stated all along. the visuals are stunning i came out disapointed only due to the fact that it felt tooo short, to much to quick in 2 hours! they go from cave paintings to the temple WAY too quick..you will find out for yourselves..they wanted people talking about this, they got it, they wanted people questioning it, they did, they wanted questionsd asked and answers not given, they achieved that too. 2 me it seems to scripts getting confused somewhat i just expected better pacing and depth thats all from a ridly film. For example HOLLOWAY who seems to be a leading character gets torched! and no1 seems to give a shit! Still going to watch this again tonight so will see if i take anything else frm it.

I am also european, and I am watching it on tuesday. I am anxious to see, if I agree with the bad reviews. A main theme in the reviews I read seems to be the clutter of wanting to much at the same time. I am a big fan of "less is more" (which "Alien" exemplified perfectly) so I will probably agree with bad reviews on that point. The secrecy and the slow burn marketing campaign might actually have worked against the movie, since nothing you can put on the screen, can match the fantasies and theorising of thousands of community members and fans. The "what if" approach to guessing the plot created a creative proces in itself and from what I hear about the actual plot lines of Prometheus, the ideas posted in here seem far more extreme and original. As a graphic designer I am still looking forward to the visuals, which everyone agree are superb.

The 3-D experience is amazing. And i too will be going back to view. it has to be done, cos it is a cinematic treat on the eyes. Good sound too. Going back with the missus this time, i said she'll handle it, but the Medipod scene is Gruesome stuff, can't imagine how she's gonna take that. And now i wait to see the U.S reaction.... Think things are gonna get very hot very fast, and it will have the Tentacles, sorry legs to run and run, for a long time. Possibly unto the the release of the sequel.
