MemberTrilobiteFeb-28-2012 4:35 PMAs I am not only a staff member but one of the sites theory article writer I shall propose my theories regarding the latest video FOUND HERE showing Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) giving a presentation.
1. Ties to AVP
Yes I'm sorry but it does seem as though this video ties Prometheus to AVP. Firstly at the end of the video it states "Weyland Industries" as the link given for the promotional site (despite the company being called Weyland Corp in the actual Prometheus movie and as shown above the link), secondly Guy Pearce is using an English accent (sounding much like John Hurt IMO) and Lance Henriksen's Charles Weyland in AVP was also stated to be English/British. Also in the video he seems proud to admit that they are not far off developing cybernetic organisms indistinguishable from humans (synthetics), and the cover of TIME magazine shown in AVP showed Charles Weyland to be recognized as a pioneer in robotics.
Also the website address is clearly www.Weyland Industries.com, which was founded by Charles Weyland, but the site which seems to be looking back in time to 2023 states that Peter Weyland founded Weyland Corp in or before 2023. The link to AVP is there whether you choose to ignore it or not.
So it looks like Ridley Scott is not retconning the AVP's out of the canon, if anything it looks as though he is enforcing them into canon.
2. Ties To Aliens
Aside from the Terraforming aspect the website mentioned above includes the slogan "Building Better Worlds". Which any Alien fan will know first featured in Aliens.
3. M-Theory
I noticed this was mentioned, and if my memory serves me correctly this is tied into multiple/parallel dimensions and string theory. If that is true could this be a science fiction theory used to explain FTL (Faster Than Lightspeed) space travel, in a similar vein to hyperspace conduit (Star Wars) or subspace (Star Trek) that allows vessels to leave our three dimensions, travel FTL, then pop back in.
4. Synthetics
Because of Peter Weyland's proudness regarding his forthcoming Synthetics I can only assume they will feature heavily in Prometheus, and that if, as some of us have presumed, Guy Pearce is a member of the crew of the Prometheus, he could be a synthetic made in the likeness of Peter Weyland.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 10:56 AM@Spartacus, I agree with you Sparty. I actually enjoy the first AVP film, the second one not at all. But if your comparing them to the Alien films they are crap. As a stand alone franchise with aliens and predators in them, the first one is actually a fun and entertaining B movie. The second one failed. They should of just hired Paul W.S. Anderson again to do the second one. lol. Apparently FOX was having a hard enough time trying to find a director for Requiem that they basically just settled on the inexperienced Strause Brothers to direct it. At least Paul would of made it fun and somewhat entertaining.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 11:01 AMsome of the scenes were well done in requiem too, like the father son getting Hugged at the begginning was cool man...But sadly I still think what a pity it is that they dd not fiirst get EVERYONE inlcuding Scott & Weaver on board for discussions befopre releasing both films. Ripley8 is right, and they did not have anywhere near the same atmosphere as the Franchise films did.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 11:02 AMInstantly, when he said the words, "...Not minding it hurts...", and had the following look in his eyes; I automatically thought of Dallas sitting in the "womb of mother", typing "What are my chances". And thinking of that look on Guy Pearce's face, right after he said that quote about not minding that it hurts, I just see the the computer/corporate response, "Does not compute".

MemberTrilobiteMar-02-2012 11:10 AM@ Sparky - Heres a deal, you start up a new thread (you seem faster at typing than me) in the Aliens section about the plot holes/inconsistences in the Alien franchise, Predator franchise, AVP franchise and together as a mega-franchise and I will personally answer/try to answer every single last one of them.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 11:13 AMokie dokie but Damn, you are forcing to me watch both of those films again and closely for details at that, but I AGREE and will DO IT...it'll be fun and should kill some time while we wait for the Derelict to arrive again. It's cool though, got kickin' copies of both films and the Alien Quadrilogy DVD's to examin and find 'em all with.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 11:19 AMI agree, one of my biggest problem from the start with the AVP films were the time period they were set in. Placing the films in 2004 was definitely a problem. Kind of contradicts the Alien storyline as a whole considering that Alien takes place about 120 years after. Paul says their prequels but there really not. Its just a stand alone franchise set in modern day with Aliens and Predators. But I guess it wasn't all bad considering that the first film took place at Antarctica which kind of gives it that foreign feel. Plus Paul actually takes the time behind the scenes to mention Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. I also liked how it wasn't just a one sided affair throughout the whole movie. Sometimes the Predators were winning and sometimes the Aliens were winning. I thought the Grid Alien was kickass!!
I mean I actually really liked the first AVP movie as a standalone film. It was fun, entertaining and with a 50 million dollar budget I thought the film did the best it could. Yeah it had a lot of flaws but I really enjoyed it for what it is. Plus the Queen was pretty badass as well, even if it totally changed the design concept of Cameron's Queen, I still really enjoyed it.
Requiem was just a slasher film with Aliens and Predators. I appreciate them trying to at least make an effort to be darker and more violent but it was done basically for the sake of shock value and that was it. It did not further the story any. A lot of people don't like how the film kills a lot of children an babies. I completely understand. I mean to me it looked like the Strause Brothers were simply going for exploitation and thats it. Requiem also paid WAYYY to much homage to the Alien series. I mean you had a Ripley knock off and her daughter which was suppose to symbolize Newt. You even had another character named Dallas! Ontop of that the actress playing this Ripley knock off sounds a lot like Sigourney Weaver. "HOLD ON!" she screams lolol. I mean it was just all silly. It just kind of shit on the classiness of the Alien franchise and was exactly the kind movie Ridley Scott was trying to avoid wayyy back in 1979. A cheap B monster movie.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 11:25 AMyou said it best R8...that sums up exactly , 100% exactly how I saw it all at the time and have felt all along.
samll edit: I do not recall seeing any predators in Resurrection, think you may have worded that part wrong unintentionally.

MemberTrilobiteMar-02-2012 11:28 AMRC8 I agree with all of your points regards both films, but I look past and through the flaws to what lies underneath at the core. Much like I did with the Matrix (although it is common knowledge on the net, most have missed one key element of the whole matrix trilogy, and I spotted it without being told by anyone).
