The Space Jockey

with regards to the whole Gods idea, i think this movie is hinting at the whole Ancient Astronaught Idea of Creation. That is that these are not Gods as per say, but a Advanced Space Traveling Race of Giant Humans. i.e Titans, Anunaki, Nephlim. The Movie shows that Star Chart apeared in many Ancient Civiliations, inc Egyption, Summarian etc. The Movie shows a Summerian Tablet and Egyptian one. If you look at the actual Summarian and Egyptian Tablets that depict the Gods giving Man some Technology you will notice that these Gods look just like Man only about double the height say 10-12ft. Now looking at that, and then what Prometheus actually is (Titan God who created Man and Gave us our First peice of Technology) you can see somewhat how the Movies Story ties in with those ideas. Hence they went to seek our Creation/Begining tag line.

Hey CanadaPhil, It's funny how one can post from thread to thread, and hearing other's theories completely changes our original theories. You are right, we HAVE harnessed the power to create beings artificially. Perhaps we didn't steal their secret, but in our evolution we figured part of it out, creating life, even if it's artificial. We obviously at this point haven't figured out how to do it on a molecular level. According to the trailer though, humans have had interactions with these beings before because of the wall paintings depicting giant beings pointing to the stars. So, if the jockeys did create us, I don't think it was by accident. But perhaps we weren't meant to get that far. When we arrive, they probably ARE shocked. They know that they will be punished for creating us, and we in turn will be punished. And, if the Xenos are the fail safe, maybe they think that they can somehow unleash them on humanity, destroy their human creation to get back in their Gods favor?

On to the whole Punishment.... Maybe the Space Jockey/s where in some kind of hibernation, and woken by the Promethues Crew? I dont by that. I also dont buy the Space Jockeys wishing to Destroy us because thats what their plans was... unless they are as above hibernating? I would assume that the Crew find by using the clues from Ancient Star Maps, a World that the Space Jockeys either inhabit or colonized or maybe use as a Laboratory or Warehouse. They enter and they then start to find and mess about with stuff that the Space Jockeys do not want Mankind to know, the Organisms in those Pods could be a Bio Weapon or something that can be used to create/manipulate life. This is knowledge and Technology the Space Jockeys can not allow to get into our hands, or the Space Jockeys Little Secret they dont want man kind to know about. They could destroy Prometheus, but then Earth would know already about the clues that led Prometheus Mission, For Example we could fail with a Probe to say the Moon Europa, that does not meen we would never send another out in future. So the Jockeys know that Mankind could potentially send more missions to their System and so when the cats out of the bag its time to wipe out and start again. So say simular to say if we was talking about a Real God or Aliens looking at Mankind after we made Nukes and thinking simular to (oh the childs found the box of matches) that Humans should be wipped out as they have a powerfull Weapon they should never have had.

I think that the SJ in the image for this forum isnt an SJ at all i think is one of the crew after a change. The body seems too small in relation to the head compared to the suits in the corridor ( the one with Shaw in the foreground ) and also there are almost no correlation's to the original mummified one in Alien, the arms seem way too short. The shoulder seems a little like the human space suits and also the clip of the mutated crew member jumping off the ATV onto another of the crew shows him in an all brown coloured suit....at least it looks a lot more brown than blue.

I actually seeing the whole thing diffently now. I feel the Jockey's are literally SLAVES and almost powerless against these ruthless "blue meanie" humanoid Gods. And I dont think the SJ's are long dead as some have said or are in stasis. It looks like they are still alive and well on the God World (not sure what to call it) and still doing their bidding. The decapitated one (executed??) looks like a VERY fresh kill by something obviously able to kick its ass without too much effort... But NOT an Alien. Im also thinking that maybe our particular human form is NOT MEANT to be on any other world but the God World? and that something was stolen by the Jockey's from the "Blue Meanies" and deposited on Earth to evolve over the course of what.. I guess 50,000 ish years? (Not sure about that... When does everyone think that "man" with the pale skin & blue arm veins shown in the trailer was first deposited on Earth??) I think "early man" as our science knows us goes back 100,000 years, but the pale guy certainly doesn't look like "early man" as we believe he was? But what exactly was the purpose in the SJ doing this as obviously they would have had to bide their time for thousands of milenia wouldnt they?? Are we meant to have been a means to eventually HELP the SJ to free themselves from the "Blue Meanies"?? with the star map guiding us to their real location once we advanced ourselves enough?? LOLZ.. anyway, but yeah, the imminent arrival of the Prometheus (Im assuming that the ENGINEERS were obviously advanced enough to scan and see them coming some time before the actual touch down) sets off an orgy of slaughter and butchering of the SJ's by the ENGINEERS... ie: the tag line about "Finding some very uncivilized behavior". About the "Ancient Astronaut" idea... Wow, a story like this must be like PORNOGRAPHY to that WEIRDO HAIR Guy on History Channel's "Ancient Aliens". Hahaha. Man that weirdo hair guy frightens me!!

I'm not even going to attempt to guess at the whole story line of the Space Jockeys. Dan O'Bannon was the only guy that could give us some insight to them, and that's [i]if[/i] he had ever thought about it to begin with! I'll let Ridley run with it... Anything else is just fans letting their imaginations get away from themselves, which could ultimately lead to major disappointment in the story that's about to be presented to them. I'm walking into that theater with a clean slate and letting Mr. Scott take me for a ride in a universe I sincerely love!

Y'know i was watching the trailer earlier the space jockey...rises up in his chair....and what appears to be a set of ribs close around him.... Now say for instance for whatever reason it was actually one of our mutated crew that was actually in that chair.....then that leaves the enigma of....how did they appear that they were exploded outwards..in Alien...and how come (and im supprised no one has asked this question yet?) There was corrossion from acid i.e alien blood.... It can't be that a chestbuster escaped, because how do you explain the blood/acid corrosion? Im thinking we have the creature the ancestor of the alien.....and the jockey in the chair.... shoots a gun of some kind from what appears to be the ribs ...hit the aliens grandaddy..and melts a big hole in the floor obviously the jocvkey is stuck their then......what do you think?

Why would a technologically advanced race bother erecting a huge representation of a human face abord their spacecraft? That seems more like the act of an individual with an unhealthy obsession (grudge?) than part of any rational plan. Assuming the space jockey isn't just sneaking around unnoticed for the first half of the movie, it must have long dormant periods or something like that. Something happened on Earth that it isn't happy about, but it's only active for short periods separated by ages of inactivity. It's had to resort to laying a trap using the bio/genetic engineering skills in evidence in the construction of the ship itself. But it hasn't had any human specimens to work with, so the biological weapon it came up with is iterative - it doesn't achieve its most destructive form until after it encounters and adapts to its host.

Don't mind me while I double up this post... As a weapon of revenge, the xenomorph is too virulent. Look at the close calls the various crews have had throughout the franchise - and that's with some of them actively trying to return it to Earth. Clearly, a human crew can't be relied upon to carry the xenomorph back to their home planet. The Space Jockey waits to be found, either to obtain specimens, or to learn Earth's location, or both... but it must ultimately make the delivery itself.

Good call, craigamore. Now you've got me wondering why such a scientifically-savvy franchise would incorporate a fully humanoid non-human.

I'm reserving my judgement for after I see it....there's no way to qualify this idea's quality or the film's for that matter until I see it.

No it couldn't be ..it must be that the seeding of the human race was meant for later use by the Xenoforms ,mto be harnessed at alter time in the future to be crossbred, but the Xenophorms discovered by the SJ must have threatened that from happening , as it was a life form created by the SJ for some thre purpose that evolved into something unforeseen on that planet , something unforeseen and frightening, perhaps on the planet inhabited by the Xenophorms some meteor or other disaster altered the species that became dominantnp on that planet and when the SJ came back to the planet to check on the seeding it discovered something completely different than what it intended when it seeded various different planets ... So the Xenophorms that unfortunately by some freak ecological or galactic disaster ( meteor, radiation, causing its evolytion asndominant species) became the dominant species not only need a host but also want to establish their dominance on all planets and wipe out the seeding of humanoid life forms establshed by the Space Jockey ~~~ Space Jockey probably looking to wipe out their "mistake" -- the Xenoforms but was attacked and destroyed , hence the distress warning message from the first Alien film to stay away....it's a story of evolution "what if" competing with a more powerful intelligent life form

[size=100][/size] All of you are forgetting a crucial part of the Prometheus mythology Prometheus was a Titan, one of the precursors of the Olympians. Prometheus took pity on the primitive humans and stole "Fire" from the Olympians and gave it to the humans. As a result, he was punished. Trailer says that same writing was found in ancient ruins around the world. This most likely implies that whatever extraterrestrial came to Earth, gave us "fire"; technology, intelligence, wisdom, logic etc. However, as a result of this, something happened to the extraterrestrial "Prometheus"s and led to their downfall.

I'm now thinking, based on the flying saucer and veiny guy in the trailer, that there's no such thing as the Space Jockey "race" - just one human who in ancient times was abducted by or infiltrated an alien ship and acquired/was infected with advanced biotechnology. He became godlike in his intelligence and physical prowess, grew the derelict spaceship, and single-handedly built all of human civilization, ruling over us as something more than human but not quite a god. The xenomorph is either a well-intentioned project to bring the rest of us to his level gone horribly wrong, or his attempt to transform humanity into an unstoppable invasion force with which to dominate the galaxy. Either way, when the alien race dropped in to check on Earth centuries later, they were not super pumped about his actions, and imprisoned him on the planet he chose as a base of operations/staging area for invasion. Ancient humans were never aware of his diabolical plans for them, and thought he was just a really cool guy, a Titan, who brought them civilization and technology. They thought it was a great injustice that the gods stepped in to punish him, and they left lots of positive reviews on cave walls and temples, not to mention starting the oral history of the Prometheus myth.

My take on it is that our civilisation has finally reached a level that is too advanced for the Space Jockey's liking. We have become too advanced, and after thousands of years are now a direct threat to their God-like status and their "#1 position" in the universe. The cave paintings were a litmus test for us - once our civilisation could intepret them and have the ability to visit, that was the 'trigger point' to put in place its eradication program for us. Our ability to terraform, to produce artificial life, to travel/navigate through space - as Weyland said "we are the Gods now" - and the SJ's don't like that one bit. So following Prometheus' arrival and nosing around, the SJ's make a bee-line for Earth with a bioweapon cache (virus, mutagens, xenomorphs etc) specifically tailored to wipe us out, whilst the SJ's clean up later and pick the carcass of what is left of our civilisation (biodiversity, natural resources, infrastructure etc.) Scott has hinted that he has a rough script/storyboard for Part II, so this film doesn't necessarily have to explain anything about the ship on LV-426. This is not an Alien prequel, it simply provides the setting for how the SJ's and their penchant for bioweaponry fits in.

'A king has is Kingdom, and then he dies' - the king =Peter Weyland /the kingdom = Weyland Corp. The SJs could just be a race of Genetic Engineers. They travel the galaxy collecting DNA samples from several alien races they come in contact with and catalloging them. When the Prometheus crew goes inside the 'temple' they find many chambers, each containing several ampules on the floor. Each chamber has a representation of the alien race it belongs to (a human face carved in stone represents the human race and so on) and the ampules probably work as cryogenic storage units used to preserve the DNA samples retrieved from each race. Each chamber appears hermetically sealed at first, maybe the humans should only be allowed inside their own chamber but the 'temple' seems abandoned and the Engineers race long gone (extinct?) maybe something malfunctions and they're granted access to the other chambers and decide to take samples with them. Then the myth of Prometheus kicks in - Peter Weyland, who we can assume takes part in the expedition - becomes infected by one of the samples (voluntarily?) and begins to mutate/evolve into the veiny guy we see in the trailer (becomes a Titan); as the Titan of Myth he tries to steal the alien technology and the dna samples (Fire) to give them to humanity (in this case to Weyland corp) by taking the alien ship to earth by himself . By then he would most probably have turned against the rest of the Prometheus crew and decided to leave them behind. The crew, trying to prevent what they think could cause an extintion event, sacrifice themselves and the prometheus ship to try and stop Weyland as he takes off in the alien ship by crashing into it. In my opinion this could be the main plot of the film with a little "Alien Dna" thrown into the mix as stated by Riddley Scott. Riddley mentioned something about crossbreeding - IMO a member of the crew who also happens to be Shaw's love interest gets infected by alien dna and in turn infects Shaw through sexual intercourse. As a result Shaw gives birth to a alien/human hybrid, a mix of human dna and what we can call "xenomorphic" dna in its pure form. This hybris looks very much like a 'face hugger' - maybe the first one. Wouldn't it be a clever twist if the 'Xenomorphs' happen to be a entirely new species spawned from the mix of Human/alien dna? A genetic accident gone wrong (the Titan's punishment by the Gods).
