I def assumed that since the walls and corridors looks too manicured and used to be the ship. The platform looks somewhat different. I know things have changed production wise thirty years later but there is undoubtably a difference. More eggs, face huggers, chestbursters, and Aliens to come!!! yES!

Dallas noted when he inspected the SJ that it looked fossilized....not enough time had passed to be the same ship, not the same ship

The position of the ship is wrong and the design is slightly different

Its been 30 years and if the filmmakers
Wants to alternate the design to make
It more up to date, they can fo it.
look at the scorpion tank or the battle
Rifle in the Halo games. They altered
The design with much more details
As the artistic aspect has changed due
To better graphical standards.
Ridley Scott also mentioned that
he was not 100% satisfied with the
Derelict from Alien.

You just have to turn the Prometheus picture upside down and you can see that it's the same. Minor differences yes. But the overall same design.

I think holding the assumption that this is the ship that is discovered by the crew of the Nostromo is an empty, dead end....that said, there is no doubt that this ship is from the same civilization as the derelict in "Alien" which qualifies it as having strands of "Alien" DNA that Ridley Scott has said that this film contains...and this ship is one of those strands.

What if the ship is a living thing? Capable of healing itself and changing its form - like everything on it. That could explain differences. In fact, maybe all it needs to live is a living driver. Just a theory.
