I wonder if the entire area that the SJ ship comes to rest in gets leveled. Thats why 30 years later the landscape looks different when the Nostromo appears. The SJ ship is very resiliant and survives......perhaps.

Hi all - new to this forum, but I'm a massive fan of the movies. Just a thought (and I'm no expert by the way.....) But.... if the events of Alien take place 30 years after the events of Prometheus, surely 30 years isn't long enough to see the Space Jockey become "fossilised", as Dallas observed when he found it with Lambert and Kane? Maybe in space it's different though.. but "it looks as though it's been dead a long time".... more than 30 years, no? Good to be here all :)

I'd prefer those answers left to the imagination. Seriously, why the need to know everything that makes Alien the film that it is? i hope they don't touch it, and merely let these fans continue to speculate. Incidentally, I believe the script for Alien actually says the SJ is fossilised. I guess that is really going to throw the continuity gang for a loop.

@ Southern Cross... Welcome to the forums. The SJ in Alien was not fossilized, Dallas only inferred that it looked fossilized. He said this because it looked like the skeletal remains of a long dead creature, and people often call a skeleton a fossil (and vice versa). Ridley has since stated, and shown in the new trailers, that what we saw in Alien was actually a biomechanical spacesuit, therefore not a skeleton, thus not fossilized.

Fair enough, and I agree. I must have read this script description wrong. It was a while ago, but I'm sure it mentioned fossilized in more than just the dialogues.
