MemberOvomorphMar-28-2012 6:36 PMSo I was just curious as to what kind of professions we have on this site. I am impressed with a lot of the discussions regarding space/time travel/etc. So I was wondering if we have a bunch of astrophysicists or 30+ year-old men living in their parents' basement playing video games. ;)
I know this isn't technically Prometheus talk, but I wasn't sure where to start this thread.
OK....GO!

MemberOvomorphMar-28-2012 10:44 PMI'm 32 year old gay guy who works retail. I have a degree in graphic design and am returning to school for nursing or X-ray/ sonogram tech. I'm a biology and science geek at heart. I love anatomy, space and like sci/fi and horror movies that explore the subjects. I enjoy painting, video games, listening to music and guitar playing in my free time.

MemberOvomorphMar-28-2012 11:06 PMI am a college student studying to become a high school English teacher. I love books like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and 1984. Although the best book I have ever read is easily Dune though American Psycho comes in a close second as well as George Orwell's Why I Write. I love the Alien movies, especially Alien 3. To be frank watching these movies and trying to find out all I can about them is my hobby. Looking forward to seeing Prometheus in June.

Glad to meet all of you.
I consider myself a 'competent man' of sorts. I'm into rock music, poetry, playing guitar, speculative futurist thinking, current events, scuba diving, triathlons, fine wine, sushi (that's what my ex-wife called me...cold fish), belgian beer, trappist ales, gourmet hamburgers.
My goal is to visit all the large metropolises in the world, eventually settling on one of them. Preferably one in the southern hemisphere and with immiediate access to the ocean.

I'm 36, Portuguese and in the process of moving to São Paulo, Brazil.
I've travelled more than 50 countries (what you want to know: prettiest girls are found in South Brazil and Baltic countries), I'm a pretty good footballer (many of my friends might disagree but don’t listen to them) and I spend a lot of time irking neighbors by picking up my guitar and trying to impersonate Thom Yorke.
I’m a huge sci-fi fan and I persistently try to talk people into reading 1984 and Dune.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:11 AMWhy can't we be astrophysicists and 30 year old men playing video games in our mothers' basement? Don't fence me in!
BTW I am neither. Except the man part.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:36 AMSo db are you going to wear the Jockey costume or the Rae Rae costume to the premiere? LOL
Oh, BTW I live at home with my wife in kids, not in my moms basement. We don't have basements here in Florida anyways. Just thought I should clarify.

I am a film snob. I love the original Alien movie and I am beyond excited about Prometheus! I don't typically get this excited about a movie, but I can hardly wait for June.

I don't live in someone's basement, I'm not a snob, but I like playing games if I have some spare time. Fallout 3, Skyrim, Dead Space (first is the best, 2nd is okay) and uhhhmmm.. I really used to like GTA Vice City.

My hats off to you for teaching public schools! I couldn't handle it (the helicopter parents would drive me nuts).
I am only a snob about movies and books. I joke with my students about the crap they watch and read.

The company is audio note uk. Spare time is made up of various hobbies film history, and making electronic based music , reading sc fi, and watching films and model making/ art .
I used to write for a magazine called dream creation, which focused on the psychedelic music revival in the mid 1990s and we used to organise large parties in hackney London, and Brighton, getting some of the worlds most prolific producers and djs in the scene to play live for us or perform a dj set. The parties were called enlightenment and were very successful but also completely wild . We were the chemical generation. I have a passion for all things psychedelic including the experience itself and all things related. Also i am into pharmacology, and Ethnobotany i should of been a chemist or botanist.

Lifelong movie fan thanks to my grandmother who took me to my first opening day film, Spartacus (still have the hardback program) and many, many more, all the big ones. I've always followed directors, not actors or genres.
ps- forgot to mention I have a screenplay like everyone else in Los Angeles...no, its not done, next week maybe, lets do lunch on it

Anyways, I gotta go....my indigestion is REALLY acting up right now and I'm gonna go look for some antacids before I turn on this warning beacon to "stay away" .... peace out

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:07 PMThanks, I'm glad someone enjoyed that..lol
But seriously though, I went to film school in my early twenties and now i'm an 'engineer' (no pun intended) for a local engineering company in Houston that makes parts for large oil firms. I'm also gonna be a first time Daddy this upcoming Wednesday. I'm a hardcore fan of this genre and an even bigger fan of cinema in general. I'm a bit critical of what I expect in film's but love when film makers do things that set precedence like Ridley Scott did for Science fiction early on. I'm an outside the box thinker when it comes to what i think Scott is doing with 'Prometheus'. I'll do my best to respect everybody's ideas, but.........some of you are 'wrong, you are so wrong' ;-)

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 8:37 PMCongrats on the brat ;-) pun intended there too :-D and you're definitely right about Sir Ridley's impact on the sci fi genre with Alien ;-) and welcome to the board :-)
