MemberTrilobiteApr-04-2012 1:19 PMA bit of a misleading title, but not quite, let me explain...
You know that feeling you get when something is one the tip of your tongue that you've been trying to remember/solve, well I'm getting it with Prometheus. Here's the pieces of the puzzle...
1. At least 5 Harkonnen Castle inspired temples, presumably each one with a big head and lots and lots of mysterious ampules.
2. A big pile of dead Space Jockey's

3. The Derelict, underground in a purpose built hangar.
4. Shaw giving birth to an unknown organism.
5. The Xenomorph depicting mural.
6. A big, blue humanoid inside the Derelict and attacking the crew.
7. A mutated crew member attacking the crew.
8. An Eel/worm based organism infecting Holloway.
9. The crashing of the Derelict.
10. The invitations left behind on Earth.
11. The UFO at the waterfall.
12. And finally, Ridleys comments in Empire magazine about an intelligent race on Earth before the fossil record.
I have all/most of the pieces of the jigsaw, but its just a hairs breadth out of reach, I know if I can just find the common thread I can figure this out...

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 8:02 PMDid I see this right? 90 posts? Holy crap Snork, is that a personal best?
One point I'd like to make... It's a simple one and I'm not sure anyone's made it yet, ever.
We see a large round object at the waterfall.
We also see our beloved bone-ship (derelict) at some point, presumably later on.
We assume the waterfall scene is the dawn of modern man and that it kicks off the movie. If we take into account the 35,000 yrs. that have passed on earth since then, (and all of humanity's progress that has taken place in that time), we must also take into account that the alien race in the large round object has also evolved ( or perhaps de- evolved?)
Changes have taken place with us. We must assume the same is true of our "gods" yes?
They haven't simply been frozen in time... Perhaps their motives have changed since the invitation was left?

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 8:14 PMdb, You think we've made a lot of progress since then? you're an optimist !! Well, ok, I guess we have...maybe in the areas of spousal relations and hygiene... ; )

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 8:19 PMTrue silica, I probably should have included our ability to instantaneously de-evolve too!
Terra-formers gotta' love a species that pollutes all their hard work, huh.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 8:26 PMIf I could I'd post a pick my wife took of our spring break trip in the TN mountains... I'm holding what looks like a big Thor-like hammer made out of 2 connected sections of cut wood / log.
Burned into the handle, the inscription reads: "Hillbilly Woman Tamer".

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:36 PMThis is indeed a great thread. Thanks Snork for starting it and keeping it going.
Some really good theories in here. Nice to see we still have these great discussions. With some of the newer members, we've had some really odd threads!

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:43 PM@db, lol... ok, well maybe just developments in hygiene and the germ theory of disease, then (Ignaz Semmelweis). Our understanding of bacteria has at least lowered the rate of mortality of women after childbirth. Although, it didn't help BugHunter... : (

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 11:18 PMI find so interesting how far into detail we can all go with our speculations......and we're probably all wrong...myslef included....
Anyhoo.... I've also been considering the idea that we're looking a specific individual that defied his contemporaries in his benevolence to humans and that's the guy we see at the falls. His race on the whole makes him somewhat of an anamoly...the crew finds that out in due course.....
As to the pictograms, man was shown by this fellow where he came from and either they depicted that star map in reverence to him or they witnessed his punishment and they depict it as a warning Shaw and Halloway obviously miss....
Just a few thoughts

Weyland acquires Genentech, significantly bolstering the company's biotech holdings.
What if they get some DNA from the dead SJ helmet/head and rebuild/clone the SJ's? ...

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-05-2012 3:43 PMAccording to Alien Rez, they had only just mastered cloning when the film was set (2381) so I doubt we will see cloning in Prometheus, well not from the humans anyway.
The rogue SJ is another possibility, but that UFO at the waterfall is what puzzles me, its too unlike SJ technology, also no-one seems to have noticed the non-human feature on the guys head, the guy at the waterfall.
