Temple atmosphere and decorations designed to mimic whatever species enter it?

What if the temple adapts to whatever species enters it by changing the atmosphere and architecture to mimic the respective life form? For whatever reason, at some point in the film, the walls begin to change and the human sculpture and other aspects disappear? You see something like this in the preview when Shaw says the walls are changing and you can get a glimpse of it happening.
So, the temples could be traps laid all over the universe for life that becomes intelligent enough to follow the clues. This would mean that these traps could have ensnared many different forms of life, some of which may still be in the temple in some form. If that's the case, we may get only a kernel of knowledge concerning the race that built the temples in this movie. Consider Alien, the biggest questions were not even addressed. Perhaps the SJs and xenos crossed paths at one of these traps, but something far more advanced, strange, and terrifying, of which we only get a glimpse in this movie, actually engineered the traps.
Thoughts?
