I used to really enjoy posting in here. Now we just rehash the same things over and over and over and over and over....

I think you might be right. The SJs could be worm-like parasites that use the suits to move about in, not unlike the Goa'uld in Stargate.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 3:48 PMList of largest organismsWe've recently learned that the SJ temple has 25-foot doorways. So check this out.
The standard height of a residential doorway in the United States is 6'8" (2.03 m). I'm tall, at 6'6" (1.98 m), so I nearly bump my head on the average doorway.
Now, the average height of a male in the United States is 5'9" (1.76 m). So for the average American male, there's 11" (.28 m) between the top of their head and the doorway. In other words, the average American male is 13.75% shorter than the height of the average doorway.
Given a 25-foot doorway and assuming our friendly, neighborhood Space Jockeys (suited up) also average 13.75% shorter than their 25-foot doorways, we're dealing with 21'9" (6.63 m) Jockeys (in suits).
Just some comparison via simple math here, so don't crucify me. It's very possible the SJs fancy vaulted ceilings. Who knows what we'll see in the movie. But could you imagine coming face-to-face with a suited-up SJ that's almost 4 times taller than you?
The only living land animals comparable in size are elephants and abnormally tall giraffes.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 3:53 PMCompare Jar-Jar Binks to Boss Nass.....Same species, Gungan.....Just a different look. As far as the original SJ is concerned, some of his proportions could be exaggerated due to weathering the elements of being in a crashed ship for who knows how long (i.e. look what happens to a bloated dead-body fished out of a river....hardly recognizable as what the person really looked like).
Personally, I just feel that Ridley is exercising some artistic license and re-inventing the SJ and I don't think he is unaware of the discussion/controversy that he is causing by changing certain sizes/proportions. I also think all will be explained within the movie and we are simply being teased by these very fast SJ shots.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 3:56 PM@abordoli,
I agree about RS. Personally, he can take whatever artistic license he wants with the SJ. Doesn't bother me one bit, and doesn't detract from the awesomeness of Alien. These are two films where, frankly, continuity doesn't matter to me.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 4:48 PMIf the very large size (Alien) SJ is just "forgotten" about, than I think that stinks big time. Whatever happened to consistency?

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 1:08 AMIn the first Alien someone makes a comment about the Space Jockey how it "looks like it has grown out of the chair". So maybe this little tyke just has some growing up to do.
This is kind of a lame comparison, but it is common practice for moms to buy their kids clothes that fit to big so they can grow into them (and thus lasting longer).
