I am increasingly worried that this film will be disappointing

could be improved by the concept of 'it was the large blue men'.
Come on! It's shite. A missed opportunity for greatness.
Of course I hope I am 'so wrong'.

Large blue Borg, pink snake and squid harass some space explorers. Minimal space tapirs
Perhaps Prometheus 2 will be set in alternative universe in which they don't stop the SJ ship.
They arrive at Earth and David 8 utters those immortal words:
"Population approximately nine billion... all Borg."

Judge the film on its own merits and don't compare it to whats gone before. For sure Alien is one of the greatest sci fi/horror films ever made, there's no question of that but Prometheus in my opinion is offering us something new and not just another instalment in an already overdone series. The trailers look astonishing. I haven't been so excited about a movie release for years and if it's a disappointment when I actually get to view it then that's life. I'll still hold judgement until I've seen the actual thing
April 19, 2012
I still don't think RS will end 30 years of speculation on who the SJ was by putting him in the trailer.
Still. You will be disappointed with this movie if
You expect it to take place in any shape or form on lv426
You think it will directly lead to the events in alien
You expect to see a xeno
You think it will will explain everything from the alien movie
April 19, 2012
I do think it will explain Alien(movie) and more, but will end with questions (sequel possibility) that will have nothing to do with Xeno anymore.
or something completely else, no matter what, i'll probably love it

There is a clear and distinct chance that this movie will disappoint, I believe this because....
1. The massive and unprecedented levels of expectation from the fans
2. Scotts propensity for sometimes directing really crap movies
3. The involvement of Damon Lindelof (who is a complete douchebag)
4. The appearance of The Blue Guys
There is however, I believe a greater chance that the movie will be a success, because!
1. Scott when in form can produce works of genius
2. The prop and costume design alone are a success already
3. The watertight secrecy suggests something amazing will unfold and surprise us
4. Fassbender, Raprace, Theron - all the best Hollywood has to offer at the moment.
I say 80/20 chance of success and am taking bets!

My only concern is wether Shaw's "British" accent sounds natural or not. Since I'm also from Sweden, can somebody please tell me if she is convincing. Please

We keep saying the guy is Blue.... but is he really that Blue?
Ridley had hinted all along the Space Jockey was maybe a Suit....
Some may have prefered that it was some large creature like the Trolls from LOR but with the head of that creature in the image above ;)
I guess the biggest gripe is why are they so Human Looking......
Well i guess as Ridley decided to throw in a Ancient Astronaught/Creation plot to the Story and in those Ancient Civilisations the creators created us in their image and was depicted as Human like just double our height or more, Ridley decided to have the guys in the suits look Human.

Its hard to know at the moment, I think she'll do it justice, Ridley wouldnt stand for anything less.
Fassbenders accent is excellent.

I've always had an image of a tall blue anthropomorphic Alien with red eyes as a cinematic device ever since I read Campbell's "Who Goes There?" I love the tall blue image...it makes my blood run cold!

As a Star Trek purist, i don't really accept jjs version. It looks and tastes a bit like star trek, but it's not Star Trek, Visually yes, it looks great, but plotwise it a mess, ST fans like a bit of inteligence in their sci-fi.... Kirks rise to rank of Captain within a conversation not due to his hardworking, neither does the concept of time travel. Trying to make something "more popular" quite often diminishes it. The film wasn't made for star trek fans.
On the other hand, it's quite obvious Prometheus has been made with fans of the original alien in mind, we know next to nothing about the plot. So I think it's unfair to have a pop at the blue meanies,
Did the xeno appear in the original trailer for alien? I think not. Ridley will be saving the big shocks for the cinema.
April 19, 2012
I agree on the Star Trek motion - I think the JJ Abrams movie was appalling, a pure bubblegum teenage block buster produced to appeal to a wider audience.
ST is not meant to appeal to a wider audience, it's for geeks. As soon as you stop doing that you lose the essence of the show.
What Ridley is trying to do, is to appeal to a wider audience by using the themes that made Alien successful but not necessarily using the content that made Alien successful.

I see Alien written all over this film.....it gushes with Alien imagery and plot lines. If it were any more Alien it would be Alien 5, The Next Generation!

Well, my plan is to take advantage of the fact that the film comes out earlier in other countries before it opens in the US. I will definitely be downloading a shitty camrip of this before it opens here so I can see if it is worth shelling out money to see in the theater. If the downloaded camrip is leads me to believe that the movie is awesome, I will line up to go see it twice - once in 2D and once in 3D. If I am disappointed, then they don't get any money from me.
April 20, 2012
Anyone posting on this site who downloads a camrip of Prometheus should be shot.
Why would you ruin a film you're so obviously interested in?
Also @ Craigmore - take a chill pill
April 20, 2012
Well, this movie will definitely dissapoint scientists. RS has decided that all that science says about the evolution of life on earth for 4 billion years before humans appeared is "nonsense" and that he offers us his own theory in this movie. In the current Dark Age of Scientific Creationism, Global Warming denial and unsustainable, greedy exploitation of the earth, this likely powerful movie will be one more lost opportunity to offer something more to people other than entertainement.

@craigamore
I believe there is a great deal of value in what you say here.
Your indignation seems appropriate, to me.
@Darwin
What do you mean?
If you are correct, then Ridley Scott will have made those decisions because he is producing a pure Fiction, not a Documentary - on anything.
I would hope most Scientists will have the sense to recognise the difference and I'm a little surprised and concerned that you, (in, evidently, your capacity as International Spokesperson for the Scientific Community), are publicly suggesting, here, that they do not.
It seems to me, that Ridley Scott actually has no direct responsibility to present your interpretation of the, "truth", of the issues you mention, and therefore no more accountability for not expressing those issues to your satisfaction, than anyone else who has set out to make a pure Fantasy film?
After that, everything you have said seems misplaced - and I'm struggling to see what it is that you actually want from this man?
Can you please clarify?
