MemberTrilobiteApr-24-2012 11:21 AMI am currently collating a synopsis, which I will then expand into a screenplay for an Alien semi-sequel.
There will be two main elements to the narrative structure...
1. The main story telling of a Weyland-Yutani R&D vessel landing on LV-426. Officially, they are there to ascertain the cause and damage caused by the destroyed Atmosphere Processor. Unofficially they are there to ascertain if the Derelict was affected, and if not to acquire the specimens they so desire.
2. Flashbacks experienced by the captain (whose identity will be revealed later on in the story) of all the key events and factors that have happened up to this point in time (2179), and factors that will have an effect on events yet to occur (Alien Resurrection).
Regards point one, I will reveal that as we go along, but regards point two, maybe you all can help. I'll start things off...
1. Why the USCSS Nostromo was chosen for the mission to carry out Special Order 937.
2. The why and how of the Nostromo's science officer being replaced with Ash while the vessel is docked at Thedus.
Now over to you guys...

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 4:45 PMI believe someone said that sending in the marines was really a suicide mission to further research the combat abilities of their soon to be new bio-weapon product. The Sulaco and everyone onboard, just like the HH colony, were all expendable/"all other priorities rescinded".
Let's watch the amateurs (Colonial Marines) go in and face-plant, then the "real" team goes in to collect weapon (the bug).

MemberTrilobiteApr-24-2012 5:12 PMPlenty of food for thought to collate there, but please do keep them coming.
I'm still thinking of a name for the vessel, Magellan would be good but it may feature in Prometheus, so I'll ponder on that on, unless of course there are any suggestions.
Heres some little leaks of the main story I promised...
1. Bishop II will be shown inside a pod withe the words "bio-synthetic", alongside other Bishop synthetics, infering that he was a synthetic.
2. Although the main atmosphere processor is destroyed, the other two are fully functional (Jim Cameron originally intended there to be three)
3. Although the Derelict is still intact, it is empty - all the eggs and the Space Jockeys remains have disappeared.
Love to end on a cliffhanger...
Keep the suggestions and comments coming guys.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 7:22 PMSnorkelbottome, Why not name the ship the Costaguana or something else related to Nostromo or another of Conrad's literary works keeping more in line with Alien and Aliens?

Do go with;
Battles, Leaders, mythological beasts, virtuous qualities, minor gods/spirits, ferocious animals, previous ship names from your chosen culture, especially "lucky" ones
Do NOT go with;
Major god/goddesses/spirits, anything too difficult to pronounce (for you), obscure references, anything complicated.

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 1:47 PMNever saw it, Just the last one where you mentioned Megellan, but maybe, and this is a real stab in the dark Snorky I do not think it came even close to happening...Last night at around 12:30 - 2a.m. a Spammer came in and left 6 at least posts in this thread, I deleted them one by one paying special attention not to mess up anything and was most successful...But maybe I deleted 1 too many and accidentally deleted yours, however like I said I can be quite certain that was NOT the case, I never saw ANY POST YOU MADE AFTER THE LAST ONE AS EARLY AS 2-2:30 AM THIS MORNING! By the way if you haven't seen cabin In The Woods yet please do so as a favor to me and then talk to me about it bro, you will understand why I asked you to see it once you do, Big Connection!

MemberTrilobiteApr-25-2012 1:52 PMWill do sparky.
the name of the ship is the USS Invictus, if you read the poem of the same name there are a lot of undertones that could be applied to W-Y's outlook of themselves and their quest to obtain the xenomorph.

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 9:14 PMAttention Snorklebottom!
I have in my possession a gift form "the gods" as far as YOU in particular are concerned and all of us as a whole...
It came to me from an anonymous source whom for various obvious reasons cannot post on these boards.
-----------------------
Bonus #1->"And I noticed another thing [in the post] about there being three AP stations on LV-426. Cameron originally scripted dialogue of there being “thirty or so” – not three."
Bonus #2->Why was the USCSS Nostromo chosen for the mission to carry out Special Order 937?
Answer; "It was the next ship conveniently going near that area of space"
Bonus #3->"The why and how of the Nostromo's science officer being replaced with Ash while the vessel is docked at Thedus."
Answer; "The Company intercepted and interpreted the Jockey transmission, organised the Nostromo to get re-routed and rotated off the science officer in order to ensure a specimen of whatever they might find was returned."
Bonus #4->The revelation in #2 is that the Company, not the Nostromo, first picked up the signal from the derelict. It then made sure Ash replaced their science officer at Thedus so as to protect anything that was gathered at the site of the distress signal. The Nostromo was the closest asset (their bad luck).

MemberTrilobiteApr-26-2012 4:29 AMWell all of them answers are obvious, but on the screenplay I have on the two disc special edition of Aliens it states 3, not 30, atmosphere processors (30 processors would require a much bigger colony would it not)

arrgy
MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 5:25 AMThey picked the Nostromo because of the inexperience of the crew. The captain is really incompetent making bad decisions. If you go by what is in the Aliens Quad. the first officer is an ex drug user who thinks before acting. The navigator does not want to be there. The engineers are useless as well. The only crew member who is anyway competent at their job is Ripley.

MemberOvomorphApr-27-2012 5:50 AM To start with, let's assume that only a handful of people know about the mission, which is proven by the briefing after hypersleep. So the prometheus mission is not even known by Weylands board of directors,so if Weyland and the prometheus never return no one will know anything. With the death of Weyland, his empire begins to fall apart and is eventually bought by the Yutani Corp.Let's assume Vickers' is his only family therefore all personal secrets are gone as well.
Kind of cliche' but some type of clue is discovered, a clue he perhaps left in case they fail, similar to how the Jockeys left us clues. He would without a doubt admire and emulate them. Thus, the new journey begins.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-27-2012 6:01 AMthere will be links to prometheus, so i obviously can't finalise anything yet til i see the film.
