The good old Commodore 64. I once owned practically the whole Commodore lineup.
My first EVER personal computer in 1981 was a Commdore VIC-20 !! Hahaha... The kids here probably have no idea what that even is. 1 year later I got the 64, and 2 years after that I picked up the Commodore 128 (which I still have mint in its original box somewhere).
I think I vaguely rememer this original Aliens game too. If its the one Im thinking of, it unfortunately started off with this really annoying first level where you were in effect piloting the dropship down to the surface. That first level was awful.

@Phil: You and I had a simiar growing-up. I got the VIC-20 early 82 and had the data-cassettes & player along with a whole bunch of cartridges first one, if I recall being Cosmic something (a Pac-Man rip-off). I especially enjoyed a certain Jupiter Lander game and an awesome Instrument-Only flight simulator. Then it seemed like within a year or so, I was given a Commodore 64 and I too must have had every game on that thing (thanks to Fast-Hackem), but I do remember actually purchasing Aliens and playing the crap out of it. The dropship sequence was one of my favs and through many, many hours spent on it, I was able to nail it every time.
I had my C64 running up until the mid-90s when some I brought it over to some "pals" pad, left it and they had destroyed it like the fax/printer machine scene in "The Office", but up until then I was actively using it for Midi work with Yamaha-PSR500 keyboard taking advantage of it's ability to playback in stereo with the given cartridge.
Although a friend or two had the 128/Amiga, I never did...going a few years with no computer at all and then getting back into it all when W95/98/ME became prolific.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 5:43 PMYep.. I remember those days well.
For me, the best ever VIC-20 cart was OMEGA RACE.. I couldnt believe that one. It was almost a perfect clone of the actual arcade game.
And they also had a near perfect clone of the arcade game RALLY-X, but it was called Radar Rat Race and it subtituted the cars for Mice and the flags for chunks of cheese... LOL!..
The funny thing is, I had kept all that crap for years and years.. along with a Sega Genesis with CD and 32X attachment, an Atari Jaguar, and a Colecovision... all mint with original boxes and instructions for all the carts. I ended up selling the lot 2 summers back on Ebay and netted $ 3,000 for the works!!! which made me really, really happy... but I somehow now miss that stuff.
Pssst... truth be told... you dont really need any of that old crap, because you can basically play all of that stuff using ROM EMULATORS and things like MAME... if you know what that is all about.
The only classic console I kept was my original Playstation 1

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 5:54 PMYes, I owned both Omega Race and Radar Rat Race. Yes, anything ROM related I just use emulators for if I've got the craving.
I was also subscribed to a Commodore 64 magazine and had a lot of fun learning to program by example (like I learned BASIC from the VIC-20's thick manual entering in every program) and then modifying them to be my own. The 64 enabled you not only to learn BASIC, but Assembly, Hex and Binary programming methods (and it made it all fun and enjoyable).

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 6:03 PMYep.. I remember that... entering the codes line by line from the back of the magazines... Geez people now would never believe that!! Hahaha
But then I had it easy when it came to the 64. I had a cousin who really got into it and he was part of this Bulletin Board group.. He would literally have that 300 baud ascii modem chugging all night long to downolad 64 games!!! I would just come in afterwards with my stack of blank 5 1/4" floppies... He hated that! lolz!! He was so jealous when I picked up the NEW 1200 baud modem... bhahahahaahaha!! 1200 baud.. I think paint literally dries faster!!
Man how things have changed.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 6:03 PMi just gave it whirl and it is suprisingly simple and a bit boring but very very well ported to the PC.

abordoli
MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 6:21 PMYes, very well ported, but I prefer the original where I painstakingly had both these sequence mapped and you got to see your character on the screen. Other than that, an excellent job using sounds and music (as well as characters pics) from the movie.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 7:05 PMthe download link for the map is right below the link for the game and can be used while you play.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 7:15 PMThat map is no where near the like the original map was (either one of them). His game is a good 4 times bigger than the original and in no way resembles the one he claims it is based on. Good game, though.
