Ridley Scott Ends 33+ year debate over Derelict & Eggs !

i have 3 answers for this that no one can ever argue with, choose one or all. 1. a wizard did it. 2. star trek time space fluctuation, no more explanation necessary. 3. the space ship has a portal to the creepy ghetto south side of Narnia.

I´m with artyoh and Kane77 on this. Scott´s talk now is an adjustment to the needs of the new story he wants to tell. There is no way the huge egg´s chamber could be part of the derelict (I proved that in an early post using the measurements someone calculated about the Derelict and egg´s chamber sizes), and we know that it was there only because the Fox´s suits redlighted the "pyramid" scenario from O´Bannon script.

correction there is no natural way the chamber is part of the Derelict, unnaturally on the other hand its very possible... just like the TARDIS in Doctor Who.

Snorkelbottom, I do agree, but observe that nothing in "Alien" mithology give hints of this kind of technology happening. This would be a huge departure of the "canon", since the "Alien" franchise happens to be very "naturalistic" in style.

of course BD, Ridley says - its a bomber carrying a cargo of eggs, one of which hatches and hugs the SJ pilot, forcing him to land and send out a distress call - therefore it is. We have our official confirmation of events, end of story.

Naturalistic in style, dont think so... Bio-mechanic, host eliminating aliens. FTL travel with no time dilation. Synthetics mistaken for humans. acid for blood. No heat effect upon entering a planets atmosphere. ...the list goes on. Ridley has given us the facts, just like he did with the suit (eliminating arguments about fossilization, though they still continue), for those that have trouble with those facts just fill in the gaps with whatever theory you want.

I don´t think this is unnaturalistic, since all life is bio-mechanical in essence. b) FTL travel with no time dilation. No proof of this; besides, in this case hypersleep wouldn´t be necessary. c) Synthetics mistaken for humans. What´s the problem? Do you see gigantic spacefaring refinaries floating around? AI is right into the range of possibilites of our own technology. d) acid for blood. Again, weird but not beyond possibilites. Life on Earth display´s weirdest things. And remember that the very xeno lifecycle was inspired by the behaviour of some wasps. e) No heat effect upon entering a planets atmosphere. The fact that this was not displayed in "Alien" doesn´t mean it isn´t there. At the time, Scott used only practical effects, and this is the kind of effect that would very difficult to display without CGI _ as most fireball´s are created nowadays. Last: "facts"? There are no "facts" here. We have the fact that Scott choose to recreate the past with a novel interpretation. Nice, and I hope this works well in Prometheus, but this don´t change the REAL fact that Scott will try to disguise a continuity problem with new narrative. Disclaimer: I´m a fan as anybody here, but I don´t accept the words of Scott as the Revelation. He is human, has human purposes, and some of them could go in the general direction of disguising some problems... Cheers!

Its a bomber carrying eggs, end of. The dimensions of the egg chamber are irrelevant in light of the official announcement, the Space Jockeys obviously have access to technology similar to Doctor Who, big deal.

SO ... why can't the 'original' Derelict be HUGE in size ... because it is a bomber ... therefore the new 'Croissant' is small because it is NOT the same one and so not a bomber ... hence smaller? ... it could be just a cruise ship ... are we the only species to have different size vehicles? ... Sod the internal dimension law of the 'old' Derelict because (for me) I dispel the internal size due to the (now) fact it is a bigger ship and it's carrying 'cargo' ... If you watch Alien and notice how SMALL they are when they approach the Derelict ... look at the size of that ship compared to the one in Prometheus ... it's nearly twice the height for starters ... so that's good enough for me :) ...

I know "scale" was a big issue for "RS"...remember he had to get his sons Jake and Luke to wear custom made smaller Nostromo suits in the Space Jockey scene just to get the scale right for that shot.

^^^ Yes... In the original... the ship proportions are huge.. and the dead Jockey dwarfs the crew.. It is at least 15' or 16' tall. Dallas literally has to climb up the side of the chair. Thankfully, there will no longer be any of these "They ARE on LV426" posts, or the "eggs are ON the planet" and the "ship landed on a pyramid" nonsense! RS has now once and for all confirmed that the EGGS where inside the ship IN the Cargo bay beneath the chair, and that the pilot deliberately forced landed on a DEAD MOON to protect his fellow "Jockeys" from something that had been unexpectedly unleashed!

Well we have not really had the main answers yet.... Ridley had said before and hinted that the Derelict was maybe just a bomber, and the eggs was its cargo. All he has done in that interview is clarify what he said before and that is the Derelict was carrying a Cargo of Eggs, the Bomber situation may not mean Bomber in the normal sence. Just the ships purpose is hinted that it takes this Cargo of Bio Weapon Eggs to a destination that it wants to wipe out its indigenous life. So the above as been confirmed but we kinda knew this years ago. Then we have the Space Jockey with a hole in his chest, now we knew from what happened to Kane, that pretty much something simular has happened to the Pilot in that chair. Now Ridley in that interview has finally admited that yes, something from the Cargo had got to the Pilot. The only real revelations Ridley has come out with recently is the Derelict he said he always considered it to had parked. Now i said on the thread about Parked Derelict a while ago, that to me it seem more like a unplanned Stop kind of not a crash, but not a planned plain sailing landing. But more of a Emerency messure, most likely due to something getting lose on the ship. Ridley has pretty much confirmed the above, in that latest interview. The other interesting things was he said the Derelict is Millions of years old, that does not imply its been on LV426 for Millions of years. But he also hinted that, what if the Ship had landed on LV426 before the creation of man. So this gives us even more questions than answers that hopefully we will find out about. So the questions we now have are... 1) How was the Xeno Created and how long ago? 2) How long had the Derelict been on LV426 prior to Alien? 3) What was the indended purpose of the Weapon? 4) Where was the indended destination of the Derelict on LV426? These are four questions regarding the Derelict and its Cargo in Alien. These revelations will lead to these questions also. a) What killed the Jockeys the crew of Prometheus come across and how long ago? b) What does Ridley mean when the movie is how the Daddy meets Mommy, if the Xeno and Eggs was created many many years prior to the events of Prometheus? c) Did they use the Xeno on Earth at some point? If the Xeno and Derelict was created/landed way before the year 2090 then that would add a different view on the last 8 mins of the movie as being a flash back. Maybe the Jockey tells the story to Shaw or David. Maybe it points to the Xeno used to wipe out some life on Earth so the Jockey could seed the Earth with new life and create us and thus we will see the explantion of events to the Derelict in Alien and the begining of time scene (Water Fall). Dont forget some Ancient UFO/Creator theories are that the Aliens/Gods had to wipe out the Dinosaurs and other creatures so they could terraform the planet so mankind could thrive. Maybe thats the purpose and plot of the Xeno. We have to ask, why do the Jockeys now want to wipe out their creation?

@CanadaPhil Yes thats a good point and pretty much like my theory i posted a few times, that makes sence if you conclude when Ridley says this movie is how the Mommy meets Daddy to. 1) Be not about the Xeno Organism but something new. 2) Nothing to do with Shaws baby. I did think maybe the Jockeys little creation/bio weapon got out of hand and nearlly killed all of them off. So kind of like Resident Evil movies, say they make another where they finally contain the T-Virus but instead of destroy it they think it could come in handy and that by putting the remainder of it on a ship and set it down on the Moon is a way to perserve their Virus for future use, while eradicating any threat that would happen if it was stored on Earth.
