The more and more I see of Prometheus in the trailers ,the more i believe it is indeed a remake of Alien. Ridley once said the franchise was like a sponge that had been squeezed dry. I believe Prometheus is to revive the franchise. Also certain similarities between Alien and Prometheus are starting to arise... The derelict signal is now cave paintings/map They land on an unknown planet and things get out of hand A corrupted Android who potentially meets the same end as Ash (Ridley always said he wished he could redo the Ash death scene A possible sex scene in Prometheus that was storyboarded for alien but never shot The ship getting destroyed at the end and them escaping in lifepods A rumoured 'Dark ending' such was Ridleys original idea for Alien Even the transparent Alien Ridley first wanted Its all here in Prometheus, the alien DNA he talks about is the Space jockey set/spacecraft. Theres even more if you look into it. What are your thoughts?

Raiders of the Lost Ark - the derelict signal is now the Nazis trying to find the ark of the covenant. The hero goes to another land where things get out of hand. An airplane explodes.

Sorry but it is an alien franchise movie. Even if the plot is totally different, its still in the same universe as alien, hence all the references and easter eggs. The tie in with the original movie is to finally close the chapter on Alien, and move on with a new story. If a sequel comes out that continues the new direction without referencing the original movies, then prometheus will become its own franchise. Example for those who have played the games, would you consider Metroid prime a different franchise than metroid 1-4? Prime has a completely different story than the main series, completely unrelated save for the shared universe and elements. A spinoff is still part of the same franchise until it separates completely from the parent story.

We've seen what? only about ten minutes of the film so far. IMO it's great hubris to think we KNOW what we think we" know" about Prometheus. I hope and trust there're great surprises and revelations to come. If we've got it all figured out then even if it's a good movie, it will fall short of being the ground breaking sci fi classic I'm hoping for.

Its not a remake, but it does develop some of the leftover ideas that were never included in the Original film (engineers temple etc).

@mentos Do you think Prometheus is closer to what Ridley originally intended to be the story of Alien? My remake theory has upset quite a few of you,its just an idea i had, be it good or bad. Still cant wait to see it ! Film of the year im betting !
