The real nature of LV-223

Sorry if I´m repeating an older topic but... What I find weird about LV-223 is that albeit hostile, that world lacks any kind of orbital defense ring (or something like it). It seems defenseless. If Prometheus was a military ship, it could destroy the entire place "from orbit". What again makes me think that this world isn´t a "base" for some alien species. Also, it is so barren that doens´t seem to be the homeworld of any civilization. We don´t see any kind of lifeform over the soil. It´s a primordial world. Of course, the "defenseless" appearence would be in accordance with what one should expect of...a trap. However, I really think the story will be very different from these options and will spin in a different ant unantecipated direction. What you think?

@ CENTROSPHERE I READ THIS... "orbital defense ring" and immediately assumed you meant regular planetary DEFENSES... I still say that question hasn't really been properly answered and by the way any "out post" I have ever seen or heard of in Science Fiction in the past 50 years had some serious defensive systems capabilities.

@Spartacus, Not sure if I correctly follow your reasoning, but... We know from the trailer that Prometheus try to stop the "croissant" to go wherever it plans to go (putatively, Earth). It does it by SMASHING ITSELF onto the Engineer´s ship. This means that neither the temple complex, nor the croissant itself, have any defensive systems. Or at least they seems curiously unable to activate them. My take here is that there is something weird about an outpost unable to defend itself, and this says something about the plot. The thing is, I humbly feel unable to make a good bet on what´s the secret here, and expect this will lead to a interesting twist in the plot. 34 days to go!
