Hammerpede NOT organic!

From what I can see from all this speculation about the Hammerpede I have a strong feeling the whatever it is it is NOT the name of an alien. It's most likely the name of a weapon or a vehicle. All the other aliens never recieve official names just nick names! In my humble opinion hammerpede is the name of a vehicle be it Jockey or Human! Love to hear what you guys think!

That was my first thought when I saw the trailer breakdon on io9 - I instantly got a 'protohugger' vibe from it... but it remains to be seen what kind of horror this (these?) creatures are actually capable of. The hole melting faceplate of the helmet screamed facehugger to me as well, but perhaps this (these?) creatures do not require a live host in order to reproduce (evolve?)... hence the fact the faceplate melts all over that poor bugger's face... it's giving me chills just thinking about it!

@Synthrimonger94 - "All the other aliens never recieve official names just nick names"!
You're wrong about that. Check out the old Alien soundtrack... There is a track called "The Facehugger".

Well, spacecobra breaks milburns(?) arm. But we see him(?) raise up two hands.
The "slit" from spacecobras... mouth(?) looks a bit like a facehuggers "mouth".
The problem about this theory: Spacecobra has no fingers to hold and grab.
Such a mechanism is useless on this cobralien thing.
My theory about the melting helmet: They try to cut it off maybe... we see something similar in Alien the movie.

@Shaw's_sweet_baby
Yup. I have it, "The Facehugger" is one of the best tracks on it :)
@Alieness
I agree, it doens't make any logical sense to compare it to the facehugger other than it's vague resemblance - given that it has nothing (that we can see) with which to grip. Perhaps it hides some rather nasty teeth within it's mouth/opening?
I agree wholeheartedly about them trying to cut it off... and I think that they will perhaps fail as well...

We for sure know that one of the aliens in the film is going to be called "The Hammerpede". Now, if the Cobra isn't the Hammerpede then what is?
Could anyone in here possibly imagine a creature with only one foot that looks like a hammer?.. C'mon guys!

I think Hammerpede refers to the rolling derelict/Juggernaut that we see "chasing" after Shaw and Vickers at the end of most trailers. Obviously, the Space Jockey ship is not really chasing anyone, it just happens to be rolling in the general direction of Shaw and Vickers.
Hammerpede is the name of a track from the official Prometheus soundtrack. Search Amazon.com and look at the track list to find it. This list contains potential spoilers, so beware!

Well that was a point I tried to make earlier, I don't think it's been named the Hammerpede for the fact it has legs like a centipede. I think it's more of a portmanteau between millipede and hammerhead because that's what it looks like, more sleek like a millipede (than a centipede) and with a hammerhead shape.
However... it doesn't mean that it literally has to have legs to qualify as being named with after a millipede, in biology and zoology there are organisms named after what they look like - but again this is all conjecture.

@Shaws_sweet_baby
(love that moniker, btw)
I'll guarantee there's going to be stuff in this movie you or I could never imagine. Plus, the name doesn't necessarily mean it resembles a hammer. It probably hammers through things..skulls for instance ;)

The Juggernaut has two "legs" with hammer-shaped "feet" on the end of each of them. When the Juggernaut crashes and begins rolling across the landscape, it appears to be "walking". It think Ridley was very clever including this sequence in the film: how do we introduce a huge antagonist that's pursuing our heroes? He got lucky with Giger's original derelict design.
May 13, 2012
As for the space cobra/assflower/face burster, I think Ridley decided to model his creatures after female genitalia instead of the phallic shaped chest-burster and the Alien. I see labia and a clitoris when I look at the space cobra.

@GreatBoosUp
Yup... it'll be interesting to see how they go with that motif to say the least, especially if it is Millburn that bites it first.

Jim,
You should patent that right now! You could probably sell it to Weyland industries at the rate they're rolling out new technologies!
May 13, 2012
so this theory about the ship means it happens at the beginning of the 2nd act!? I don't think so.
May 13, 2012
I think any space jockey technology is technically alive and could be programmed to grow into a creature or lay eggs or something, if you begin with manipulating individual DNA strands as Ridley implies in the featureete, a single living cell from any alien technology should be programmable into anything they have made before although they probably have well established procedures that streamline the process better.

please stop titling your threads with spoilers. Title it *spoiler* and then in the body of the paragraph say things like 'hammerpede'. When the track list that contained this name was revealed everyone had enough sense to call it a spoiler before giving it away a few days ago. Nothing has changed since then.

well female anatomy has been used since Ridley's original though, the opening on the facehugger where the willy comes out and to a lesser extent the opening of the eggs.

@alieness
It breaks milburns arm and melts his plexiglass helmet BUT also when fifield tried to remove it I believe he is also splashed with "acid" maybe the things blood in the face as well. He's rolling on the ground gettig his face burned off when milburns freaking out with his broken arm trying to get it out of his suit. But we know that'll never happen he deadz!
