I think dissolutionment with long awaited franchise films was planted in my head (quicker than Kane getting his face humped by the original facehugger!), after Indiana Jones 4 trailer proved to show so much promise before my dreams were shattered by the combined dump of what Lucas and Spielberg inflicted on us.
Please Please Please Sir Ridley of the Scott make this film live up to the lofty standards of the trailers, I really don't want to have to refer to this film in the future as "Pro-faeces-us"
I really think everybody's just goofin' around, Spartacus.
Um...
Right?
Y'all are joking, right???
Ash'bishop... I don't think we'll have to worry, it's been so long since he's done sci-fi. I think he's had PLENTY of time to work on the storymaking ;)
"I can not lie to you about your chances".
I do agree though. I hope it's just half as good as we all hope it will be.
it's gonna be great...i think....but it will disappoint some people....especially hard core fans.....i thought avatar was great....yet so many people hate it....tho with Avatar i never even saw a trailer....so I had no expectations....just went to see it because everyone at the time was praising it so much....i was aware of the project before it's release....but I only read a few short magazine articles before actually seeing it.....
...so no major expectations....if I got on the hype train....i might have hated it in the end....this is the danger with 'Prometheus".......i am gonna have to go view it without any major expectation....else i might be very disappointed!
To be fair though, I think I'd be happier that there were familiar themes and elements from Alien involved in Prometheus rather than it try to recapture the "lightning in a bottle" that was the original film.
In short, I'd be far happier if Prometheus was it's own thing, but with some familiarity...
I like the idea of catching the subtle nods and enjoying the experience of a new Alien film from the man who started it all. I have relinquished all my speculations in favor of what RS has done with this film.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
My only fear is that Damon Lindelof has deliberately withheld more meaningful linkage to the original Alien movie in order to spin it out like he did with LOST. That he's more interested in making his mark than the fans. Tha's probably unfair...but it is my fear.
I DO appreciate that from what I see, it looks beautiful and grand...but I don't want to feel that it's being spun out and needlessly overcomplicated.
You get one shot at this and I'd like it to be more than just a good pay day for him.

relinquish.....yeah Myrddin365...that the perfect articulate word to describe how i feel...now that's becoming one of my favorite words....gonna be using that a lot now...I love the way it rolls of my tung....;)...forgot about that one...English is not my first language by the way!
@juxtapose
Thanks! It's a great word. What is your first language?
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
I am Afrikaans...my first language...just like Charlize Theron...and i am from south africa just like her.....BTW her surname is pronounced "Tron"....with a rolling 'R"....not that she minds....'The-ron" sounds better!
... most my friends are English and all the music and movies are in English and i find myself almost better equipped to express my thought in English....so i love the language and i love big words....lol
The ULTIMATE horror is that the Engineer zips off his own face and there's a Na’vi inside.
And then Ridley zips of HIS own face and Jim Cameron steps out.
Right?
Surely at least SOME of you are going to agree with this. I just have a feeling...
Perhaps even better would be if Cameron then revealed himself to have really been George Lucas all along... proving himself once and for all to be the world's biggest troll?
Or is that a step too far on my part?
maybe the movie is different than everyone thinks . In spite of the trailers so to speak. And really surprises.
That would be nice.
"I think dissolutionment with long awaited franchise films was planted in my head "
I hear you friend. And I bet that's just what Sir Ridley thinks aswell.
Ask nothing from no one. Demand nothing from no one. Expect nothing from no one.
I had one person on YouTube respond to my encouragement "If Sir Ridley is helming a Blade Runner prequel, there shouldn't be anything to worry about, right?" He responded with "Star Wars eps 1-3". Eugh. I think comparing Sir Ridley Scott with George Lucas is like comparing apples and oranges; sure they're both involved in the sci-fi genre, but whereas George Lucas makes epics involving lasers, huge ships, and all sorts of extraterrestrial creatures....Sir Ridley implements grit and a form of "realism" in his sci-fi movies, some of which was particularly evident in Blade Runner.
As for all your fears concerning whether or not Prometheus will wind up being a steaming pile of xeno-shit (if there even is such a thing in the franchise, lol), all I can say is that you try to have just a little bit more faith. We all have high expectations for this movie; some of us may not feel totally fulfilled after seeing it, though realistically we won't know until release day. Overall, I'm sure this movie will be at least good. Personally I'm so anxious for this movie that I never think about Dark Knight Rises; it seriously never crosses my mind. (:
....it's gonna be an epic well thought out masterpiece that people will be discussing many years from now......or is that what we only hoping for.....c'mon june !
One thing that annoys me is how people always say the original is better....when sometimes it really is'nt.....I think it's cause the original comes up with this new idea and then sequels simply expand on the original idea...but what else can they do....with Prometheus they actually went out of their way to create a new fresh prospective and I don't mind that....but i bet many fans are not gonna be pleased....their is still plenty of people out their who believe that this is a true Alien prequel....i feel sorry for those!
Many of the cast have said they have not done a movie as big as this one, in terms of the scope and depth and contents of its plot.
so i think it would be quite ground breaking in some areas.

I agree CrazyDave... it was just a bit of fun, but you have to admit that Lucas has been kind of f'ing with us all for a while. NOT that I am remotely implying that Scott will and I wouldn't have ANYONE else (not matter their talent) helming a Blade Runner film ;)
WHY oh WHY did you have to bring up Indiana Jones and the crystal skull sheet hole? Until now, I lived with the feeling that RS was invincible... Then you so reminded us of how two directors (one, Spielberg, a regarded genius, and the other...not so genius lately due to laziness) can completely "jump the shark" and go "full retard"...ugh...
Not worried about Prometheus. I'm starting to hear more and more great things...
Gonna be fantastisch!
I think too much of Scott and this cast to believe this movie will be a huge turd. I will watch it with the least possible level of expectation, but it will be hard not to be excited.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
If the film ends up being enjoyable, I'm sure it will flop. I don't think the world could cope with my happiness.

what does that even Mean?
