Well if I am over thinking things, look at the case of my presentation, do I not raise a valued, un-baiased and balanced hypothosis? This is how film makers think and do things... Adding layer upon layer of information variables as such like the layers of an onion. This approach is the brainstorming that directors, producers and writers dream up all of the time! Utilizing multiple scenarios and depths of knowledge base from painstaking time buried in research both in the oral tradition and the written form. But visual language marries the two together and it is there that discussion forums begin because we talk about the visual information we have been given and presented with don't we as fans and those who would want to offer a valid essay for critiqe...? Its as plain as day to me!

I don't think we're over thinking at all to be honest. The metaphors run rampant throughout the trailers and what we've seen so far. When designing the Prometheus I'm sure the design team needed some sort of template to base it of off. And using an eagle as that template does not really surprise me after seeing this. Also, Weyland Industries logo looks like an eagle, why shouldn't the Prometheus? It's all connected.

Prometheus took fire from the Gods and gave it to the mortals and had his liver pecked out ad infinitum for his actions. How do you equate "Prometheus", the ship, with the eagle that pecked out the liver of Prometheus the demi-god? Aren't we the demi-gods in Prometheus, and the Engineers the Gods, which would make the Xeno the eagle who will torture us for our transgressions i.e...stealing the knowledge of the Gods or engineers? Ya got's to use logic me dear fellows:O)

@dave_b Your logic makes no sense though. If we are to Prometheus then who are the mortals that receive the fire from Prometheus? The crew have to be the mortals. David is most likely the Prometheus.

O.k there is a twist I have to offer as some thing to bake your noodle over... If possible and it is this: There is a narrative irony at play here on the behalf of the filmaker themselves... Somehow we turn the tables upon the so called 'Gods' and we deliver the killer blow to them. We in fact take the power of the gods, the power of WILL and turn it against them! It is a plot mechanism I feel Ridley Scott is toying with and thus toying with us as a result, you see!

just imagine if all us fans were in a room discussing this stuff. it would be chaos. got the supernova convention in sydney australia in june. hope we get some of the cast from the film. that would be neat. Q&A at cons is always heaps interesting.

I challenge you whom may doubt my suggestions to read up on the designers of the films various things we see within it and one of those things in question as the 'Origin' idea of how to best design and create the visual asthetic that is the Prometheus ship itself, the overall inspiration. Then come back to this thread and offer comment... It would be interewsting to hear of your findings upon this matter... I await your response/s...!

Ambrosia, I believe the embodyment of Prometheus is Weyland and whomever assists his agenda to steal the knolwedge of the God's or Engineers. The rest of the crew and humanity at large are the innocent mortals who will suffer.

I do maintain with all due respect that although it seems to fit IMO it seems an over thinking of a great idea. There's Just no way to know I guess until someone makes A "Prometheus Vault"...lol.

That is indeed also correct in that vein Spartacus and I understand whole-heartedly why some are only prepared to go so far in what they are presented with, with regards to the text and sub-CONTEXTS of things, issues, ideals and the metaphorical constitutes this film raises in us as the intellectual fan-based community upon this material... For some this is just everyday thinking, an average day even...!

People, really....follow the bread crumbs please. Weyland compares us (him)to Gods. Prometheus goes to meet our ancestors who created us or made us into what we are (the Gods or engineers). Weyland wants the knowledge (probably for immortality) or resurrection. The crew are rejected, killed and otherwise tortured. The Juggernaut attempts to go to Earth to punish us mortals for tampering with the God's knowledge. It isn't all that deep...it will be the Horror show and the subtlety that will give us food for more thought and a desire for Pro2!!

I buy the similarity with the eagle, but it doesn‘t appear to fit the myth. Basically, the myth is children steal tech that can be used to overthow the parent. I can buy the xeno as the eagle. The real question is who is punished, which will tell us who Prometheus is. At this point, I am unsure who that is. The likely alternatives are: 1. Weyland 2. A sympathetic Engineer 3. David David is a human creation similar to Frankenstein, “the first Prometheus.“ He does seem to tie into the Frankenstein role. In that case, is Dr. Frankenstein the Prometheus or is the monster. I am thinking it is the doctor and not the monster, so based on the Frankenstein model, Prometheus would be David's creator, Weyland. Weyland is a titan of industry, so he could be Prometheus who was a titan. Wayland also is a visionary. Prometheus could see into the future. Weyland wants to obtain technology to benefit man, so there are strong signals pointing to Weyland as Prometheus. Engineers are responsible for creating and helping humans. That is the role of Prometheus. If the Engineers are Prometheus, one of them must be friendly (or stupid) and gives us (or inadvertently allows us to take) technology that can be used to overthrow the parent/gods. Is the tech given to man the gift of intelligence or some bioengineer tech? Both Weyland and the Engineers appear to fit (with some gaps) with the Prometheus myth. However, if Prometheus is Weyland, then it appears the eagle is unleashed on humans rather than Weyland as the titan Prometheus. So, I am not entirely convinced it is Weyland, even though his space ship is called Prometheus. If Prometheus is an Engineer who give us tech, fails to prevent us from taking the tech, provides a map to the location of the tech, bioengineers us to have intelligence, etc., then maybe the Sacrificial Engineer is Prometheus who is punished by god like Elder Engineer. I also agree that movies carry imagery to get the myths across. Just look at American Beauty, Kevin Spacey's character is constantly shown behind bars to show that his life is jail (he sits behind stair rails that look like prison bars, vertical lines on a computer screen with his image reflected from behind the lines). So, it could be possible that the space ship is designed to look like an eagle to build on the imagery, but I think the real eagle is the xeno, which we know gestates by consuming the body. Still, the ship crashing into the juggerbutt could result in the xeno being implanted into the Engineer/Prometheus. I could buy into that, but I think we have to end up with the xeno as the eagle.

I'm not suggesting that all here present engage in that derisive form of response and manner to members such as myself whom only seek to raise the proverbial possibility of the 'possible' I ask you again to dis-prove my hypothosis I have presented upon this thread...
