May 21, 2012Dude I am a die hard Alien junky. Two years ago, when I first heard of a possible prequel, sequel whatever to Alien I creamed my jeans. My wife's birthday is the day of release, and I told her that her birthday comes around every year, but this only happens once every 30 or so years so you either come with me to the movie or deal.
I have been waiting 30 years for the answer to the magic question: How and what did the company know of the creature before it sent the Nostromo to LV-426?
And it looks like I may not ever get an answer. Or I may.
1. Its not an Alien prequel per say. Yet it has the company in it, the ship and the space jockey, and takes place in the Alien universe. Huh? Then what the heck do we have? I am hearing a lot of conflicting stuff from different people who are working on the film, which made me tune out that stuff. Its either a prequel or not, you can't be a little pregnant.
2. How many writers have been hashing away at this script? For two or more years I have heard of five different people working on this script. That's NEVER good.
3. No offense to the God Sir Ridley who is the second best director behind Sir Stanley K., but its not his creation nor franchise. He didn't write it, he just directed it. And this whole secrecy thing and trying to make a larger statement then just the movie scares me. Alien was great, because it was a simple story told well. I don't want a grandiose, where did man come from conspiracy theory thing to come out of this. Already hashed out the pyramids and stuff in BSG and other shows. Tell the simple story, well. You want to make some statement about mankind Sir Ridley, go make a documentary.
4. The special effects are great, but the characters and actors. Alien and even Aliens worked well because we got into the characters and the acting was great, I hope that doesn't get lost in the special effects and grandiose story telling.
God I want it to be a great movie, I want it to work. But the scenes in the previews with the pyramids, and "yeay we are going to explore a planet and get killed or eaten, and if we don't stop them they will destroy the earth thing" just scares me as being so cliche and done over and over and over again.
