Hi everyone, I translated large parts of the 'Prometheus' special issue of the french magazine “L'Écran Fantastique”. You can download it **here** as a nice lookin .pdf or **here** as text-only (.pdf and .doc). I tried to make it clear what part is from the magazine's reporters (smaller bold lighter blue) or me (italic smaller bold lighter blue) and from cast & crew (regular size darker blue) so you can have a better appreciation of the reliability of the info... For instance, on page 2 of the PDF: "Faced with the threat such acquisition represents, its creators decide to stop the intruders and fly a ship targeted at Earth. To prevent the extinction of mankind, the Prometheus has no other choice but to cause a collision. The extraterrestrial ship is nothing less than the Derelict, seen as a wreck in Alien. Its pilot, the Space Jockey, very much alive this time, holds an essential role in the panic that strikes the survivors of such terrifying adventure." is a sentence by the magazine's reporter. There are reasons to believe they went ahead of themselves with that and it's nothing more than their interpretation, as other info from more reliable sources does contradict that. To make it clear, IMO it is most probably careless summarizing of stuff by the reporter and not reliable info. All in all, best quality info is written in 'regular size darker blue' font Also: I did the editing to make it nicer and easier to read. It does not match the magazine's formatting, hence the location and association of images was done only just by me. I tried to make it relevant or funny whenever possible (Weyland in Theron's interview / Shaw for 'In the corridors of the Prometheus' etc..). Do not look for meaning beyond that. In particular, I thought it was nice to close the PDF with a tribute to Boleji Badejo... you know, cause it links to Alien and the picture “ain't exactly a xenomorph”... a thread was opened by BigDave in the 'spoiler free' section **here**. I opened this thread here so spoilers could be discussed and because BigDave's thread links to the wrong pdf. Anyway, hope you enjoy that! Cheers! -T.

Merci Iapetus. Je vais le lire en français :) Juste pour info, il y a un cheval de troie sur la page de download. Thanks Iapetus. I am going to read it in French. Just for information, it seems there is a trojan horse in the download page.

Also, for those interested in discuting that, here is a quick summary of the spoilers/confirmations/hints from the magazine: *********** SPOILERS *********** p2 - 'Prometheus' takes into account the other 'Alien saga' films - The "Space Jockey seat" is a pilot seat p3 - 'croissant' is a battleship (? - in 1978 at least ; means other non-battle ships could be saucer?) p4 - the 'discovery' on LV-223 links to the origin of life and mankind (biotechnology not just an alien-bioweapon!) p8 - Meredith Vickers' role model "is a strong influential man who has proven very bold during his life" and her situation comparable to "when a daughter works in the shadow of her father". p9 - "creature's shapes [...] evolve in a way that will connect with those that are discovered in 'Alien'." [...] "But what we show has much more to do with their evolution and way to develop than with a direct link to creatures like the “facehugger” and the xenomorph." p10  - The engineers invented the biomechanical technology ; it is at the root of their culture and technology - Engineers visited earth in the past and enabled "us to progress.Every major evolution in human civilisation are linked to those visits. [...] It is the core concept on which our original script is built." - there are very large creatures in the movie p11 - "Space Jockeys" experience physiological reaction to hibernation similar to that of humans (must be fed, organic function etc...) p12 - "this shape [i.e. 'Space Jockey' found in the original film] actually corresponds to a suit, and [...] it is not the real external aspect of the creature who piloted the ship"  p13 - the real name of the 'Space Jockeys' is 'Engineers' because "they seeded humanoid life-forms in the entire galaxy." - the biomechanical technology is a mix of nanotechnology and genetic engineering (though not developed in the film - see p10) p14 - the action in 'Prometheus' takes place in the same planetary system (planetoid?) that 'Alien' does p16 - In the first sequence of the film, you discover what happens when the engineers arrive on earth, and what they do. p17 - the 'sacrificial engineer' appears naked, the scene occurs at the beginning of the film. p18 - the engineers are slightly over 3m/9'10" and look like marble/alabaster Michelangelo sculptures p19 - the 'Space Jockey' head/helmet was chopped by the door of an airlock and preserved in a environment that prevented these to decay - 2 members of the crew are infected p20 - at some point, one character is played by an actor with an ageing make-up - the engineer ["the": confirms presence of a single live one?] fights against E. Shaw, is wounded and spills black blood p22 - not only E. Shaw is carried away by the storm, which catches everybody off guard

So essentially the SJ that we thought we knew is really, being that is a suit within a suit. Read the section in regards to the prosthetics and the sacrificial engineer being completely nude(in SJ terms). I think they are far more "human" than what we have seen.

I can't say there is or there ain't... It's actually someone else to whom I sent the file that uploaded it there. I have tested and downloaded the file several times and still have no problems... Don't worry for trojans, you'll get enough watching pr0n later tonight ;) As the wise man Ian Malcolm said "Life will not be contained. Life breaks free, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, ah, well, there it is... I'm simply saying that life uh... finds a way."

It's actually a bit worrying to read that this is all happening in the same system as LV-426. This means that time travel or other such lameness such as Shaw being the mother of all xenomorphs might be involved.

@iapetus LOL, true ;) Anyway my curiousity got the better of me. This is great. So much work and dedication! Wow! I just have one quick question regarding the prosthetics of the engineer. Are they made of silicon (silicium) or silicone (silicone) (guessing the latter)? Not that it matters much, just curious. If you are in France, are you going to give us a detailed synopsis on the 30th?

And I guess we can stop calling the engineers "blue guys" now, I guess they are "white guys" after all, bof....

I am not fond of the idea that the functional biomechanical technology looks more mechanical than bio. I would have imagined it exactly the other way 'round - more bio, when it's functional. But what do I know about alien technology? ;) To me personally a more biological design would have been more disturbing, more "alien" (as in foreign). But I guess he was going for something different, here. I am sure he they knew what they were doing, though ;)

@wesen oh sweet lord... now I want to hang myself. Ok, precision needed, it is 'silicone' and not 'silicon' indeed for the prosthetics (contrarily to the fact I kept writing 'silicon' in the translation). I am sorry, I did not pay enough attention to that, it gets confusing as, in French 'silicon' is actually called 'silicium' while 'silicone' is 'silicone'... Argh... should have been more careful, now I have a hard time tolerating that those typos are in there *keep breathing*keep breathin* Many thanks for pointing that up! I get what you mean regarding the biomechanical technology. I think it's not too bad and has more to deal with slight aspect elements, not things being actually very different. To me it just means they went for a cleaner, operative look, prior to decay and before rotting/mummification gives it a more bio-, organical look. [on a side note: myself being a paleontologist and working on locomotor function, I liked it much better when R. Scott used 'biomechanoid' to talk about these designs/technology, because 'biomechanics' is actually my field of work... anyway, it's prob too late to change which word is used... haha ] Ermm well, I would be glad to provide a detailed account of the film, provided it is indeed welcome to post it for everyone here... Was much debated not long ago and lots of people running away in fear of whole plot reports... I guess it's better now with an official *spoiler* section. I will prob do that, just with a very clear, non-ambiguous warning title.

@Gem]n[ well, I wasn't even around this forum when you posted that, but siincere congrats on figuring that out then! That is some talented observation and deduction skills! As I checked in here, I browsed through 'older' stuff (ie posted prior to my first visit end of april) and was really amazed at the dedication and relentless observation skills of people. Too bad I wasn't part of all that, now the film approaches people are quieter and affraid of spoilers :/ props to you again anyway. @General Perez I really don't think/see why time travel would be necessary or implied by anything. For sure, I too hope that no time travel happens in the movie. Actually I really doubt it happens, hence why I don't get what you mean.

My personal opinion is that it's wrong to give a detailed synopsis until at least a few days after the film has been aired in the US. I'd include answering PMs in that. Even if people are begging for a synopsis, tough shit. That just shows an addiction to spoilers and their enjoyment of the film would be compromised. We all get a bit like kids when it comes to spoilers, but i think its unfair to take someones enjoyment out of first seeing it, everybody already knows way more than they could ever possibly need to.
