I was pissed off when I seen this in the cinema, I was hoping Ridley would stay true to the egg morphing theory or at the very least biomechanoids.

I think that it looks ridiculous as compared to the xeno. Perhaps the entire movie is ridiculous.

oh dear, that thing looks badass!

Not sure if Proto-alien is truly terrifying or just making me uncomfortable.

This was my least favorite part of the movie. Felt totally tacked on and made me think someone was pandering to Alien fans.

for me, the (perfect) ending had ALREADY HAPPENED ... then they come up with this nonsense.
Sorry, I'm trying to avoid the term SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENTS.
I mean, the film already establishes that IT'S NOT AN ALIEN PREQUEL, not even the same planet.
Anyway, Ridley Scott'll get rid of this crap in his (inevitable) Director's Cut.

Because we want to see it as a protoalien ...maybe is just an indication of the terrible "plague " that have hit the SJ base ....the black goo is totally out of control and create genetic monsters at every stage .

Not to come off the wrong way, but I'm now betting that I won't even have to go see the movie, this upcoming Friday.
It'll be here, in HD. The whole thing. You "spoilers" are unbelievable...
...I know, we're warned anyway...
However, I have a feeling that this proto-xeno will be the catalyst for the sequel. No doubt Weyland, or Weyland/Yatani will want something for the disaster that just occured. They'll run across this thing in the sequel, and maybe the real nasty, Gigerish hell will be unleashed. And Ridley's original idea of the true lifecycle will begin/be shown. Hopefully, it'll get an "AO" or NC-17 rating. Turn it up a knotch...!

Even though this has been called a precursor or proto-alien, I don't think that it actually is. It's more like a mutation from the known pattern, given the way it was bred.
The original alien appears to be far older than this one, so this is more of an evolution (human generated facehugger impregnates an engineer = this).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

The odd thing about this one, though, is that it comes out fully grown. No chestburster phase, it just claws its way out. I'm not sure what it means, but it seems a bit different...

i think it looks great, this will be one of the first new type of xeno-creatures that no doubt will be in the sequel, when they go to the space- jockeys homeworld. this movie has so many great moments dont understand the negative reviews i enjoyed it in my opinion

I haven't seen the movie yet, but being that there is a mural of the Starbeast before the proto-Xeno appears (I assume) I think that they existed before whatever causes the proto to appear, and the true Starbeast's form is already decided. Perhaps the proto-Xeno is only circumstance.
