a friend of mine just emailed to say they CLOSED one screening of Prometheus (in Wales) because some woman FAINTED during the 'operation' scene.
Nice.
There's a great use of music, and subsonics, so it really gets you going, on a physical level. Yeah, maybe you could say certain scenes were 'scary'.
The two American women behind me in the cinema thought so, they screamed their heads off at the above scene.
:)
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

Iwould say ....No No and No.
Alien better for that sort of thing .
Still a good movie though flawed.

Yes its scary,
sure there are moments of gore and unpleasantness, but above all i found the concepts/culture of the engineers disturbing. The 'temple' is one big house of horrors. Their whole cult around perverting life/reproduction for malign purposes is creepy with its murals and sculptures. Whether its the 'xeno bursting from vagina' mural, the vaginal openings in their ships, the gigeresque statues, the bioengineering turning the rawmaterial of life into various penis/vagina shaped creatures that assault and abuse other lifeforms, the dehumanization of Fifield, the skull on top of the temple, the countless self-referencing in everything (the various shapes and hues of the 'derelict-class' ship pops up all over the place......all of this combined with the huge HEAD-sculpture (with its 'hands holding the vials of black stuff') in all its God-compex corruptedness. It's scary!
And then the 'quiet-engineer' wakes up and its looks...its one cold feral smile delivered during an outburst of shocking violence. Yea...its scary ...and in ways it takes the mind some time to get round to.

Honestly I didn't find alien scary. I wonder why people feel so.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

alien was scarier because i saw it when i was 6 or 7 years old :) prometheus didnt give me creeps because i am 29 now :) but there was some gory scenes which i liked...

also the development of a 'soul' in David...with its first tiny steps mixing innocent childlike wonder with bitterness and hurt and a touch of cruelty.......its creepy and scary!
What i mean to say is...it's the concepts and ideas in prometheus that are scary. It's not a monster in the closet-movie and im too old for that anyway :)

I wonder if they ever have scary movie screenings where they put heart wireless monitors monitors on the audience. Wouldn't it be neat if you saw a live feed of the audience's average heart rate. Would seeing it go up make your own go up? Fascinating....

Yes - it's bloody scary. Not Woman in Black scary but as GalacticNorth put it: it's the events in it and the ideas that are terrifying.
All in all though, it's permeated with a sense of dread.

Prometheus has the most brutal scenes out of all the Alien films. It's not just gore, it's well done and it makes you feel uneasy. Some moments will blow you off the chair.

I thought in part it was scary, a couple of parts jumpy, a few parts gory and scary, and a few parts oh my god get out of there! scary. It was great.
