I think the goo is the same cuz it looked to me like it had the same effect on holloway. But slower. It's slower for one very important reason; dramatic licence. ...I think that's as deep as it goes.

If the goo wasn't the effect but rather the tool, would that help the conversation? The goo may be a nanomachine that enhances natural properties of a species. What I mean is Halloway and the Engineer may have had a noble character and had similar affects. It appeared the Engineer conquered death and became new life. The Ape Man was only interested in money so was taken over by power and mindless desire. The worm was robust plus Shaw has a natural survival instinct which may be a good description of the Alien species. The Pandora legend demonstrates a blessing and a curse. We steal fire but now also have the ability to create. We get technology but now have to be responsible to the creations.
