Awful, horrible, cliche filled claptrap

Ridley may now lay claim to the worst dialogue in a big budget sci-fi film ever. Lindelof and Spaihts are officially a couple of hacks, who somehow managed to pull a rug over the master of the genre.
The crew, on a trillion dollar mission, are a shallow group of bumbling stooges.
Swiss cheese resembles the incoherent plot.
Without a good story, visuals are best enjoyed with the mute button on.
You will be very disappointed.

I am glad his thread was started. The movie had no real substance, to try and label this a master piece is ridiculous. For those that claim this is epic compared to other sci-fis I really do have to question how many films you've seen and what they actually were. I can't think of one a-list film that this can be compared as a master piece to, not one!

i think one of the most disturbing things about any of this is the fact that pre prometheus opening the director one who i think is a great film maker, and the cast were all saying that the script was amazing, a real page turner, and couldn't put it down, some even reported on reading it over and over it was so good, this has to be addressed if a sequel is contemplated the dialogue was some of the worst in recent years for a ridley film and the character dynamics were incredibly poor.
That said i still feel he has one of the best eyes in the business but his judgement on scripts is most certainly in question. American gangster was a masterpiece in script dynamics compared to this. A different genre but great character development that made you care.

Well, the review I was going to write was similar. I was VERY disappointed and confused by the plot.
I started writing a review, came here to post it in fact, ripping on the character plot, the odd abstract philosophical talks, and the mythology that was layered on with a trowel, I realised that they were three different layers of the film, which interact, and we're supposed to guess which to believe.
I know LOVE this film. Every scene is a trap, and if you're confused you have to go back and figure out where you've gone wrong.
Ridley Scott is a devious man.

Glad to hear you have you multi dimensional brain in good working order while the rest of us poor unintelligent suckers for great script writing need to pass a mensa test to work out this incredibly sophisticated, detailed multi layered work, of cryptic script writing genius.

Thank God (or the Engineers) for Michael Fassbender. Without his superb performance as David Prometheus would have been a disaster - atrociously written, pretentious and forgettable. I've loved science fiction my whole life and I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, but there has to be a limit. Never in the history of fictional space exploration has so much stupidity been concentrated in a crew of 17, most of whom seemed to be competing in a game of Who'll be the First to End Up as Monster Fodder. Had I realized that one of the writers was responsible for Lost I probably wouldn't have seen the film at all.
I didn't take much notice of the media hype surround the film's release and I'd also read a couple of scathing reviews before I saw it, so my expectations weren't unrealistically high. Even so, I spent most of the 124 minute running time inwardly groaning at scientific howlers, unintentionally hilarious dialogue and senseless plot twists. Was I the only person to wonder what real science fiction writers such as Alistair Reynolds, Iain M Banks or Stephen Baxter could have come up with based on the 'Engineers created us' premise?
Prometheus certainly looks gorgeous and the special effects are stunning; in fact I left my critical faculties in the lobby and saw the film again solely to enjoy its visual delights (which include Mr Fassbender, an actor I'd barely heard of before). But on the whole I feel that Prometheus is a wasted opportunity trading on the public's enthusiasm for the first two films in the franchise.

A group of us went to see Prometheus recently and had the same reaction as many of you on this thread. First we all got really mad and yelled at each other about the bad writing, the inaccurate science, worn out cliches, gaping holes in the plot, the ridiculousness of old-man-Guy-Pearce, etc. No one was briefed BEFORE they took off into space? What the hell were these people thinking?
We were so mad! Then everything became funny. Then we made this video. It's for lulz.
This may answer any questions as to the training Prometheus crew members had before the mission~ Prometheus Training!

Good grief, guys. I think it's safe to say that Ridley Scott is decidedly not stupid. The man has been making movies for at least three decades.
Those of you stating that the dialog was the worst of any sci-fi movie ever made leads me to the conclusion that none of you have seen Avatar.
Also, keep in mind that Ridley and company have given hints that there may be sequels in the future, and that the xenomorph is 2 - 3 movies away. He stated that this isn't a movie about the xenomorph, but a movie about the "big picture", as well as the Engineers.
If you think you're talented enough, then warm up your computer and start writing a sequel to Prometheus and give it to Ridley. No, Prometheus wasn't perfect, but I think it's safe to say that the armchair quarterbacks at this site could do no better than Lindelof or Spaihts.

come on guys..its an excuse.
If somebody like Scott is coming back after 33 Years to do an Alien Prequel its logical most people expect it to be at least solid written. Lets hope hes doing a fine Final Cut.
its no use
- try to fix the plot holes the movie has
- to speculate what he might have meant instead od whats plain to see on the screen
- release massive production stills, post production details and stuff
- hope Prometheus 2 will fix this
..when the actual movie itself cant hold the water by itself.

xemu, op, highpriest, bardlover and barelypolitical (great video!!) are all correct. I wanted story. hadleys hope-- if the story was that "devious" then even a moron as I would have found it...
This movie blew chunks of what looked like an attempt at acting. 2 scientists frightfully yell “Let’s go back the ship” line and then “get lost”, find a friendly snake and want to pet it? Really? Can we no longer do this one? A self-assisted C-section of a squid baby? High gross factor but just added confusion. Captain Cool’s “let’s have sex” line and it works on the cast iron B**** of the galaxy? He plays the Concertina… am I to believe that she IS that hard up? The Captain has no semblance of a higher duty then flips the switch to “let’s save the earth thru self sarifice” mode? David had high potential but I think something was missing, he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be evil because he was told to or because he is. How bout some 3 laws safe? Very impressed with his fastidiousness until the crew has morning sickness and he doesn’t even grab a mop. I won’t mention Mr. Pearce’s involvement in this, he should know better. Theron was the only one acting and she was held back, could have been a great “company” B**** (a real MR. Burns, Darth Vader, MOM, Burke), I actually felt bad for the movie when she died. How many trillion did Vickers say was spent on this expedition? And this is the “Crew” they could afford? Slackers ALL!! Scientists that say they’re in it for the money? Security officers that bring 1 shotgun/rifle like weapon, 1 handgun and a 6ft flame puffer to escort the company VIP to a galactic “meet the creators”? Medical personnel that couldn’t pass a CPR class (I’ve seen better extras plucked from the crowds of Cleveland), the writers need hung by thumbs till they learn how to write “people”. Horror can’t be Horror without the STORY and the visual. Horror is making a viewer FEEL like they are in a nazi death camp (no escape from a horrible death you KNOW is coming, forced to wait for it and then no “reason” for death) and you will have terror. Had the Sci-Fi down. Story? I missed it. I can’t believe that 70 years from now, long distance space travel is possible but nobody in the future has EVER seen a horror/sci-fi movie and learn’t anything, ie.. don’t wear a red shirt, don’t get separated from the group, don’t touch nothing, the air is NEVER safe to breath, you ARE expendable, somebody WILL betray you, bring extra ammo and most important of all; the dead thing isn’t dead. Special F/X and space F/X and music score were really good, BEAUTIFUL scenery, kudos.
Leave out of next movies:
1. Cliche
2. Under and Over acting (list entire cast minus Fassbender, Theron)
3. Story (you didnt put it this one, why change with tradition?)
4. Overused high speed race scenes, just park closer to the horror. How many times do they "speed" away? or to?
$9 and 2 hrs well spent... I was "entertained".

buddho,
It's replies like yours that bother me. You must be trolling.
I agree with xemu, the original poster. Prometheus was a disappointment. It wasn't the worst movie ever but neither was it magnificent or great. And it can be safely argued that Prometheus was not a good movie.
A lot of what is viewed as hate or one sided negative opinion comes from the commercial hype and audience expectation before Prometheus was released followed by abrupt disappointment when we saw it. We also feel we need to correct purely positive posts with pointing out reasons why Prometheus was not a great movie. And there are many reasons.
I gave Prometheus a 6/10.
