So what did you think of the Proto-type Alien and the very end of the movie. What are some of your theories as to how this underdeveloped Alien will grow and evolve to become the Xenomorph we all know from the previous 4 films?

False teeth are not scary on Aliens. :(
And it was not only at the end, it was shown right from the beginning:The Deacon (Proto Xeno?) was shown to us right from the beginning of the movie

I think its cool. I think it needs to impregnate a human or space jockey before it becomes the xenomorph. Or maybe it will become a queen?

What do you mean it looks rediculous. It is not a finished Zenomorph. Thats the whole point of these particular aliens. I am really sad that people are so critcal because there expectations where not met.

i thought it looked crude, and puppet like
reminded me a bit of the infant creature in Alien3,
i think Scott should have just completely bit the bullet
and had Giger design ALL of the creatures we see
i am well aware, that since this is the evolution of
what could possibly become the alien entity i have
grown to love in ALIEN, at the same time, it just
looked dodgy to me
but, what's done is done
perhaps if there is a sequel (of which there NEEDS to be),
that Ridley will secure Giger for any / all creature design
Engineer's* willing...

I thought it looked TERRIBLE when I first seen it LOL...I thought it was a joke!
The teeth looked very fake and just....cheesy. I thought the whole thing looked like a cheap puppet from beetlejuice or something.
That was the NOT a nice moment for me seeing that thing.
BUT! Looking at it now in that gif, it really does look OK to me.
Dont ask me why the sudden change of opinion lol

@Ripley Clone 8
This "proto alien" is nothing of the sort. It's definitely a xeno of some kind but watching the chain of events it just seemed to be a variation. The black goo seems to instill certain inherent qualities to it's creations, like acid blood, an instinct to constrict and penetrate and so on.
There's also the "altar" to consider which not only shows what looks like a xeno but also a facehugger.

I have no doubt that this black goo is somehow related to the xenos we're familiar with but this thing in Prometheus is more like a cousin to them and not a predecessor.

Yeah, I agree, the term 'proto' shouldn't be used in conjunction with that creature at all, seems like an attempt to shoehorn the timeline and make some interesting questions easier to digest, like a teething biscuit.

I agree with the other posts. This alien is not the 'proto' alien. It's just a different Xenomorph entirely.
They already have a mural of the Xenomorph we all know and love in their alter room. So, the black round headed Xenomorph already exists. This was just some mutated Xenomorph.
I totally loved the new take. I've read about Space jockey Xenomorphs, and am glad they showed one. From the Xenopedia (http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Mala%27kak_Xenomorph) I can't wait to see more from this Xenomorph. I hope they include it somehow in the rest of the Prometheus series. :)

This mutation will continue to mutate and each time it does, it become stronger, better, faster and almost unstoppable

I thought it looked fine. Does it look as good as the classic Alien that we all know? No, but I don't think it needs to. I'm in the group that thinks this is not a "proto-xeno" but is and entirely new creature. Yes, it has similarities to the classic xeno, but they are not one in the same and probably have little to do with each other. And also, we can assume that the xeno from the end of the film is still a "baby." Like a chestburster grows into an adult xeno, this thing too will grow into an adult... something. Jockey-Xeno, or whatever you want to call it. It is an interesting creature and I hope it reappears in the inevitable sequel.

I thought it looked beautiful, actually I'm surprised that it wasn't designed by Giger, because... I don't know, its hands, its head, its body, everything was perfect, scary in some way, abominable, aberrant, crude, and beautiful.
The first thought I had when I saw it, was that it was the First Queen. Then I realized that Scott doesn't actually like the concept of a queen in the alien species, and I also realized that it's impossible that it was the first Xenomorph; clearly there were others; all the dead engineers in the ground had their chest broken. And the mural...
It would have been perfect if it was the first Xenomorph, because of the way it was generated, it would have been almost like an accident: the ooze infecting Holloway, he was supposed to die, but had sex with Shaw, and he passed to her something, not the infection, he gave her a son, that "trilobite" what could have been the first facehugger, and it, used the Engineer as a host, and then, the Xenomorph emerges. It would have been like an accident, the Xenomorph being something aberrant produced by the black liquid in an attempt to survive, to be something, something that wasn't supposed to be. The concept that the Xenomorph is that thing, so aberrant, just gives me a boner. I actually don't like the idea of the Xenomorph being created so deliberately.

I thought it looked amazing. I really liked the design and all. I'm guessing this is NOT an exacto Proto-Xeno but how one would look like. In prometheus we saw the process of how the xenos were made! I would have prefered Giger to design it but he's an older gentleman now and I guess he doesn't want to work as hard anymore which is completly understandable! I do hope he designs the adult form which I believe will be HUGE!

I am sorry to post mostly something negative, but why should i lie : - )
Well i found the alien coming out of the engineers dead body misplaced.
To me there was NO sense at all in that scene.
To me the Alien was TOO BIG to have enough place inside the body of that engineer - unrealistic.
My first thought was that somebody of the studio gave an order to put some alien-like creature inside of the movie, if it fits or not.
And it does not fit IMO.
Ahh still frustrated about this move.. will this EVER end? : - )
June 27, 2012
Sorry, I know it has a purpose, but I didn't like it - at all. I was disappointed with it. Too familiar (to me, it looked like one of the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park). Ugh :(
They should not have shown it standing up. Should have just left it laying on the ground. Leaving one to wonder...
That final shot - teeth/second jaw - was just too cheesy to me. Again, so familiar...
June 27, 2012
That alien is not a proto-anything. The thing shown in the mural on the wall is the same creature so they have to have been around before.
June 28, 2012
I kinda got confuse with your term "proto xeno". This type of alien came from black goo drink by human transfer sexually and become proto choke hugger beast. The core of choke hugger enter to engineer body and evolve into what you call proto xeno, right?
Now the snake that enter to Milferd body become what? Because it will be a different breed of alien.
And the goo that enter to engineer that cause them to burst are what?
Base on these, at least we have three different type of alien. Hell, i don't even know what to name them.
