I gave it a 8/10 originally but.... It's a 10/10. I have seen it 3 times in the cinema and the script is simply brilliant. There are moments when the movie is elevated to high art when script and visuals and directing come together perfectly and inspire the BIG questions that a great movie (and sci fi) should come up with. In particular the scene where the crew change the 'atmosphere' in the room of the big head sculpture and the two opposing murals....and we see one mural disintegrating and the mural of the destroyer remain stable.....and the worms are wriggling in the black goo...and the storm arises. It's one of the mightiest moments i have ever seen in a movie. And then Scotts comments the past few days...and the debates that the film has inspired. This will be a classic on par with Alien, but dealing with alot more profound and disturbing questions.

I think it's weird that the biologist was scared of the blip from the pups that indicated life - scared enough to head in the opposite direction. Scared of a blip but a completely foreign species of schlongsnake is 'beautiful' and he wants to give it a pat. Then again, maybe it's freudian. Lol Freudian. Seriously tho I agree. Scared of a blip then more than happy to pet alien snake?

@ihdiinnotime: wow, I admit that never crossed my mind. (Vickers wanting the mission to choke was the reason she hired such bozos.) Hmm... Well, I'm off to another viewing soon and will think of that :)

I have made this point in several threads already. If you want a movie to be entertaining, then you need for the characters in it to sometimes do stupid things that trigger plot points. If you wanted a realistic story of space exploration, you get a movie of 2 hours of a bunch of guys with beards and ties looking through screens of data from a probe thousands of light years away. now if THAT's your idea of entertainment, then maybe stick to NASA documentaries?

I'm very, very curious to know just what expectation you had of responses or comments when you posted this... Personally, I just can't accept that rewarding this film with 10/10 is credible by any kind of rational judgement. Nevertheless; I envy you, your satisfaction. Long may it continue.

Regarding "petting" a cobra I agree on that silly plot scene BUT... Steve Irwin dies getting to close to a stingray because he saw it as beautiful... and it f**king stabbed him!

Regarding Milburn, the biologist, and the hammerpede... Yes, he seemed concerned of a "ping" the probes picked up. But if you recall, Fifield was smoking something (you can guess what it was). They cut away, then come back to them encountering the hammerpede. Did Milburn smoke as well and those "concerns" went up in smoke (pun intended)? And if you believe that these two "clowns" were hired by Vickers, who seemed to want the mission to fail, then this oddity makes more sense. And IMO, Scott submitted his "PG-13" version, but the MPAA still gave it an R rating. In Scott's "R" version, this drug reference may not be a reference, but a clear cut use of drugs and these guys' inhibitions were removed. If an "R" version and the other 20+ minutes are added, a lot more may make sense.

@drakeequation See your point but not sure about your theory. I went in to Sucker Punch with the same enthusiasim I went in to see Prometheus. I felt Sucker Punch was poor-mediocre and did not even consider a second viewing. There was just nothing there (e.g. story, action, music, and etc.) to draw me into a second viewing. Whereas, I came out of Prometheus feeling it was good...not great. However, as I digested the film I started questioning it...much like what people are doing in these forums. IMO, you do not do that unless you like the film on some level. I went to a second viewing (obviously concluding I enjoyed the first one enough to go again); and, I ended up thinking it was not just good but great! My point being is that I do not think MOST people go back to mediocre or poor movies just to see if they can be desensitized into liking it more. A person does not come out of a movie saying, " I think that movie was poor...I will go a few more times to see if I can change my opinion." What is the point...maybe, I will catch parts of it on TV assuming I can sit through any part of it again.? I personally came out of Prometheus thinking, "It was good. Went in a totally different direction than I had thought. Lot of stuff going on and alot of questions as to WTF I just watched. I am intrigued. I will watch again."

sevensisters... case in point, I will be going back for a second viewing this Saturday because of many of the reasons you point out. (plus my wife, who is not on this forum and didn't know a lot going into the movie, really liked it)

I agree it was kinda stupid for him to behave that way with the space cobra. However, maybe he was scared sh*tless of the earlier ping and seeing all the dead bodies and thinking some giant monster was running around that killed all the engineers. Then a little snake pops up and it's like a relief compared to what was lurking iin his mind so he tries to prove to himself and the other dude there is nothing to worry about and laugh off how scared they were.
