It looks like he saw some activity in the goo... perhaps the acid-blood had degraded over time to just produce some effect he could see. Or it could have been a stab at what nanotech would appear to look like...

I found it highly incredible that, knowing that David could read and operate Engineer tech, nobody on the scientific team asked him to translate anything. You'd think at some point somebody would have expressed a bit of curiosity about what the writing on the walls and the head and the urns actually said.

David was a lot like Spock or Data on an away team mission, they are always the ones to troubleshoot the doors. I went for a 2nd viewing and yes he noticed a sparkly shimmer in the green stuff, sniffed it and said, "Impressive!". Then he opened the door like it was obvious, I almost think there was information in that goo that was transferred to him. And oh yeah, Takka. I was definitely smh about that.
