2 Alien Prequels Listed on IMDB

MemberOvomorphJuly 16, 20121856 Views18 RepliesI remember going to the IMDB in late 2010 to look up something on Ridley Scott after watching "Kingdom of Heaven", and seeing 2 Alien prequels listed as being "announced". I decided to run his IMDB page through the Wayback machine to see if I could find what I had seen.
Here's the page it produced (it may take a few seconds to load)
Scroll down to where it lists project's he has directed and you will see
Untitled Alien Prequel #2 (2012) (announced)
Untitled Alien Prequel #1 (2011) (announced)
Obviously the release dates changed, but I think we can take this as some sort of proof that a second movie was being planned right from the beginning, and that the story would arc over the course of 2 films. Perhaps there was always the intention of offering up answers to the many questions about Prometheus in its sequel?

oh dear, this makes my Paradise in the can thread even more relevant
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

@FreePlanet
Yep, it does. The Alien universe is worth more to Fox in the long run and too virile to be left in limbo. It's why we got Prometheus and no detractors will convince me it's anything but Act 1 in a new foundation for more to come.

I think Fox would be incredibly stupid to not continue this story and keep it alive. I think it's pretty clear that Ridley wanted this to be a multiple sequel film. Personally I think it makes more sense that way, I just hope that Ridley directs it or them, and that he follows his vision not Fox or whoever else.

It makes total sense to shoot them together. Who's to say that they aren't doing the post production on the second film now? If so you can expect to see a teaser trailer of some kind included with the DVD release later this year.

Vickers-If you had raised the money yourself, we'd be following YOUR agenda, maybe someone was having a dig at Fox ???

I think the biggest question I have revolves around the use of the Ciudad de la Luz audiovisual complex in Alicante, Spain where most shooting occurred in the complex's water tank and a nearby beach in Alicante. It was booked for 3 1/2 months, a long time for principal photography. The only water scene I recall was the Engineer falling into the river at the base of the waterfall in the beginning. Did it take 3 1/2 months of shooting to capture that 15 seconds? And where is the beach scene? Or did they cut out a lot.
I also remember hearing in an interview or somewhere that they shot in the Wadi Rum Valley in Jordan (just like was done in 'Lawrence of Arabia', a huge influential film for Scott and Lindelof while writing 'Prometheus'). Did they also just scrap all they shot at Wadi Rum?
Bottom line is it seems like a lot of filming for very little, if any, screen time. Lots of cutting or something else?

But then again, looking at this Spanish website, it says they cancelled the scenes at Alicante because of cost.

After running through a translator, the 3rd paragraph...
"Ridley Scott and inquired about the possibility of recording in the water tank of City of Light the final scene of his latest production, "Prometheus," which marks a new foray into the world of "Alien", the classic science fiction conducted in 1979. In fact, several technical team remained for several weeks in Alicante working in the pit water, to carry out preparations for the shooting. But finally, the scene was deleted from the script and there was no shooting by its high cost, which was around one million euros. Now, the British director has re-think of City of Lights for its two upcoming projects. "The Counselor" will debut in 2013, based on an original screenplay by Cormac McCarthy tells the story of an ambitious attorney who enters the world of drug trafficking on a large scale."

I wouldn't put too much ino the IMDB listing. They basically stated from the beginning that they wanted to do more than one. They did say there were stipulations, basically financial stipulations but I think they've known all along that this is worth more to them as a franchise. Think about it. They make all kinds of summer movies that cost $150 mil+ that don't end up making their budget back. Prometheus and a sequel is pretty much money in the bank as far as profit. Regardless of what people thought of the first one, it's the Alien franchise and manyh of the people who hated the first one will still go see a sequel.

@Mambrane...Perfect story to hide the fact that they filmed there. Sound like BS to me.

"Yeah, we spent a bunch of money prepping this great final sequence only to find out it was too expensive right before shooting."
Like Fox's people can't predict the cost of shooting a final scene. Yeah, right.

Perhaps someone mistranslated the article and we got the 3 months of shooting and contributing 1 million Euros to the local economy ??? instead of what you found Membrane ??
Contradictory but then again it is Prometheus, where few things are what they seem.

Engineering, I believe it's true that many who hated the first will go to see the second in hopes of getting the answers they were looking for... even if the film decides not to provide them. Then, we'd be back to "square one". :-)

I agree Engineering, strange way to handle that situation. Could be BS.
mandroid, I have no idea. I just used Google translator.

I seen this mentioned a few times before, the alicante shoot and 1m euros and just wondering if it was mis translated ? But I get the impression folks on here would thoroughly check before posting something like that and it had cropped up too many times before you did your post, not saying your wrong, far from it. It's the first time I have read a translation with your account of things and it just deepens the mystery and could be as Engineering says BS to hide the shoot for whatever reason.

I keep asking myself what the viral marketing people at Fox think when they anonymously browse this site and read our musings about "Prometheus" part 2.
Hey, stealthy Fox people! Please hook me up with a special pass for the ECCC 10.11.12 event! I'm just like Shaw: I'm a believer! Take me to your leader! Or at least get me a platonic man date with Michael Fassbender. I'd love to pick his mind about his approach to acting.

That's funny. I keep getting this thread mixed up with the "Paradise in the works" thread. I went to that thread and thought "where the hell is that response I posted about Fox being able to estimate costs?" I posted something similar there and then came here to find it was this thread not that one I posted it in. WoW lol.
Anyway...
