I'd be surprised, however, if FOX releases any details about the release before September 14...otherwise, they'd be officially spoiling the movie before it opens in Italy. A 10.11.12 blu-ray release gives Italy exactly 4 weeks to enjoy Prometheus in theaters.

Well, technically, there is more than just the home video release...we're also getting nearly 40 minutes of deleted scenes in addition to the theatrical cut. I'd say that's worth the extended viral campaign.

But there have been so many home releases with extra goodies that it's now the norm to have them. It would seem kinda overblown on Fox's part to set up such a campaign for something that mundane.

If I had to guess, I'd say the special features are limited to the Collector's Edition...and there's no mention of an extended cut.

I looked this morning on Amazon.co.uk and it was still claiming 10/08/12 -- nope, it's still 10/08/12, just re-checked.
10/11/12 has to be something more than WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE GOT in the first place in Prometheus -- there must be more to it than that!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, I was enjoying the thought of something more to 10-11-12 than this. I will get it, but am hoping for an extended cut as well.

I've no doubt we'll eventually get an "extended" Prometheus cut. But first there will be the standard DVD/Blu-Ray release. Then, months later it will be packaged along with the previous Alien films to create the "ultimate" box set, along with various bits of "bonus extras". Then we'll get the one year anniversary release packaged along with a free alien egg shaped birthday candle to light. Then finally after Fox have milked us of a load of money, we'll get the much wanted "Directors Final Cut" along with 12 hours of boring pointless extras in a 3 Blu-Ray disc set packaged along with a test-tube of Black Goo to try out on your mates.
August 16, 2012
...Ugh... stupid Fox.... Well maybe there is something more to it, all we can do is cross our fingers and such. I think it was pretty clear we weren't getting a directors cut because Ridely liked his original theatrical and Fox is gonna try and milk us, which of course I and many others will fall for because eh, look it's new and shiny.
@Gromster I'll take the test-tube of Black Goo that could be fun ;)

Maybe it's not just the release date of the Blu-Ray. I surely can't be the only one who spotted that on the Corporate Timeline at www.weylandindustries.com, the following event is listed on 10/11/12:
Weyland Corporation is recognized as a legal entity and corporation under United States law and receives their Certificate of Incorporation from the Companies House in the United Kingdom. Due to the combined value of Sir Peter Weyland’s various patents and patent-pendings, the company incorporates with a higher fair market valuation than any other company in history.
Is there something else going on here? Cue the conspiracy theorists!

Frankly, having announced the decision to go ahead with the sequel, they've already trumped anything they could have done with "10.11.12" anyways. Now, if they hadnt already told us about the sequel and 10.11.12 turned out to just be the blu ray release etc. THEN id be upset. As it stands now...we've got a very nice blu ray package coming in the next few months, toys hitting the shelf soon, and a sequel coming in the next several years. Assuming you like prometheus (i dont understand why you would care about all of this if you didnt), what more could you realistically want?

Have you not been on the boards lol? You'd be surprised. A lot of people want a completely different film full of old ideas that have been done to death.
And it seems a lot of people that don't like the film seem to care as well. for some odd reason.

Also, as far as 10/11/12 being simply for the release, that's not going to be the csae. Why would Fox start a website called "What is 10/11/12? when everyone knows what it is. If the release of the DVD was 10/11/12 and that's all it was there wouldn't be a question to ask. Sorry, but it makes no sense that that's all it will be.

@engineering: yep...what you said was exactly what i was eluding to with my comment. Im somewhat baffled by the amount of time and energy put in by those who apparently dislike everything about the prometheus experience.

I'm not pre-ordering
I'll let someone else order the wrong one first before I make an informed decision as to which offers the best for my buck
