Hey guys i'd appreciate it if you stopped by and read my essay on the site, have a good day and let's help to get this sequel as good as it can be.

??? First off, while I agree with SOME/NOT ALL of what David Trebuchet has misgivings about regarding PROMETHEUS, I just can't bring myself to do something as laughable and stupid, as to sign a petition by someone who assumes that there is somebody better for the job than Ridley Scott. This is Ridley's creation and he should see it through to the end regardless of wether or not he will scare the c**p out of us in the sequel. But that's just my opinion.
The poster was good though!

Another thing @DeaconLove. If you think that members on this site will sign a petition to put Ridley out of the picture, then you are mistaken!

I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. I think Ridley is still a visionary director. He's taken the Alien franchise and given it new life. With the sad decline of originality in the sequels following ALIENS, and then the abomination AvP films, the Alien franchise was dying a slow, painful death.
Prometheus set out to take what we already knew and make us think, we really had no idea. Ridley Scott is the perfect man for the job, because he created the origin to this story in the first place. He is the mind behind the camera and say what you like about Prometheus' mixed reviews, but there are just as many, if not more, who loved the film, as there were those who disliked it.
I DON'T want another ALIENS, I don't want an Alien chasing a small crew around a massive space freighter. I want to be exposed to a plethora of new ideas and concepts which stem from the one movie which changed my childhood and kept me hooked on its mythology for a decade. Ridley Scott switched the game up, and that's what this franchise so desperately needed. I think it's silly to try and petition the man out of directing the sequel. Who would you rather, Paul W.S Anderson? No thanks. I'll stick with Ridley.

I would rather use my naked armpits to open bottles without twist off lids before signing that.
July 09, 2013
I agree with Necro, Chris & Batch, well said guys! :-D
My god you are missing the whole point. Who better than Ridley Scott to continue the story!?
Ridley was passed over for the sequel to Alien, which I have always thought was a huge mistake, as the quality of the sequels has declined.....well lets not go there again! Now he has the chance to show us more of HIS wonderful vision!!

LOL Batch. I would rather drink from a bottle that you've opened with your naked armpit than sign that!
The poster was good though!

Now now N4, I'm sure Batchpool has a lovely and erudite armpit...
What is it with this need to tear artists down? Some of the terrible things being said about RS and DL when the movie came out were mind blowing in their ignorance. You don't like it? Move on! Are you going to tear down Andy Warhol because you don't like his technique? Is the future of pop music endangered because you don't like Radiohead?
There are plenty of been-there-done-that slasher in space films, and plenty more to come. If that's what you want, go watch them, or better yet make one of your own, but don't condescend to try and demoralize a great director, particularly one who's managed on not one, not two, but three different occasions to propel the often laughable genre of science fiction into world class territory, with a "petition".
That said, thank you for the fun that is sure to follow!

This is just cruel. I can understand the disappointment in some others who worked in the franchise, but not this man. On both the Alien and Prometheus filming he worked exceptionally hard and displayed a high concern to make the films perfect. Prometheus is a good story. I think Prometheus would have been a lot better if they had kept most of the deleted scenes, but that is the horror of editing. If we think about it, the only really big problems in the film were the characters, Fifield and Milburn, getting lost and the baby trilobite looking like a squid.

I would rather lick Batch's naked armpit than sign the petition! :-D

Good luck with that.
Chris... AVP: Abomination, damn that hurts man LOL
Could be an appropriate name for the third film in that franchise though.

I think you might be barking up the wrong tree by posting that petition here. As 'Prometheus' was released over a year ago, I reckon most people that still frequent this forum are fans of the movie and, most likely, Ridley Scott as well.

The title is meant to read 'Keep Ridley Scott away from the script' unfortunately I cannot edit it.
If you fanboys took the time to read the case study, you'd see my reasoning, it's obvious that Ridley messed up Jon Spaihts brilliant story.

Ridley Scott will destroy his own franchise in the same manner that Lucas did with Star Wars, in fact half of anyone you speak believes that's already happened.
July 09, 2013
Deacon- you had to know this would happen.
If you read any of the interviews with Spaihts or Lindelof or watched Furious Gods and paid attention you'd know Fox initiated the changes you so dislike, and amazingly their meddling produced something new and wondrous, rather than redundant. And if anyone has rights to take charge of the story, it's Ridley. He created a dense, saturated Chinese puzzle box of a story that rewards any level of scrutiny with threads of philosophy and existentialism and love of filmaking and seated it in a classic sci fi adventure with a flair few other directors could match.
The only way to destroy the franchise, or the future of science fiction, is to destroy all the movies and books that have gone before and everyone's memory of them and any artists present or future who might create more. Your franchise is still there, 50-60% or more it mouldering in mediocrity at best, regurgitating the same old idea over and over again like cow chewing its cud. Let the man have his head and show us something new. That's what real artists do.

@DeaconLove-Hey change.org is not for petty crap like this come on dude use your damn head. That website is for serious stuff and helping to protect others not for your horse manure. You stay away from here you got that! For one its an opinion based petition not everyone will agree with you like me I think you suck! Ridley isnt going to destroy his franchise hes NOT George Lucas and IMO he didnt even ruin Star Wars so shut the hell up and go TROLLING somewhere else. Jon Spaihts story sucked dude not only with his premise but for showing the creature bursting out of him way too soon. I've seen all sides of the story and frankly go away troll.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Fair play, the title of the article does indeed draw attention to ‘script’ only. I can live with that comment. However, the following line opens with
“Ridley must be stopped, or the future of science fiction will be put in danger “.
Personally, I call that provocative. But hey, lets see where things go.
Ok there are just two parts to this article imo. One is character assassination by evaluating the casting, the other is leading roles. The character assassination does have a couple of valid points that I can go along with. Some may agree, some may disagree.
Now for the next bit. Leading ladies. The backbone to this argument is built up on the premise that having a woman in the leading role is a bad idea. The evidence to support this rationale being Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Back to the Future. The earliest written one being Lord of the Rings. I’ve never really had Sigourney Weaver down as a young farm boy myself.
If we are looking for a young farm girl on the other hand I could point you in the direction of something written much earlier, that being the Wizard of Oz where the leading lady is called Dorothy. The story being about a young farm girl who kills an old woman, then forms a gang to kill again.

Then. Who is supposed to direct p2 ? The warchowski brothers ?
What is being asked here ? That spaihts writes the p2 script ?
As chris said : no group of people being chased around a space freighter. Chris when I read that I saw in my mind's eye (sarcastically) a xenomorph chasing the crew around a bale of hay . He was picking the crew of one by one . When he got to the 2nd last guy he he was really tired and zapped the guy playing the piano but as the music stopped they all had to sit down. Since there were plenty of chairs. That wasn't a problem. There were lots of beer and bacon on the ship. It was a beer and bacon freighter. They bale of hey was of the kind that doesnt burn out when lighted. Before the 1st guy got xeno'd he cast his still burning cigar into the bale of hey. And it began to burn. You see they were drinking too much beer ?
So what's the moral of the story ?
Too much beer nearly destroyed there bacons !!!
Sorry chris
The sarcasms is not aimed at you but I thought that it was appropriate because I agree with you !!!!
You have to be a member for at least a year or so to get the joke .
To the op ?
Are you agreeing with the petition or are you sharing it with us ? What is your take then ? Should spaihts write the script of p2 ??
July 09, 2013
Batchpool- nice Oz parallel! You just showed me something new.
Oduodu- Spaihts probably did write the next installment, formally or informally, whole or in part. There's ideas he has alluded to but can't share, which suggests they may be slated for future use. Like it or not, same goes for Lindelof. I have no problem with any of this, I liked both their drafts, for different reasons. And to hear Spaihts himself tell it, his script was strongly influenced by Ridley.
It's probable that Paglen has either unified and polished what was already there or hit all the right marks on his own. So what's the problem? Now Ridley must be kept away? Believe me, I don't think for a minute that it would happen, but it's offensive to me when any pedestrian goes this far to attempt to derail an accomplished artist from dressing their creation. To quote the Cowardly Lion: " Tha noive.."
