New Alien Movies

MemberOvomorphOctober 13, 20132263 Views29 RepliesAs there are hundreds of thousands of "Aliens" fans out there, I am sure many can concur that these new Alien movies are just terrible! Stop trying to be creative and make up new shit.......invent new aliens......and new worlds.....and other bullshit that does not pertain to the original! Just give the fans what they want to experience! You can still be creative by factoring in original ideas and just expanding on things that fans' imaginations long to see!

They didn't make up anything new, Ridley Scott simply wanted to tell the story of the Space Jockey instead of the Xemomorph. The space Jockey was in Ridley Scott's original movie "Alien".

Okay, I buy the space jockey story.......but please explain the aliens in Prometheus! Terrible. Yes, horror/sci fi fans probably love this movie. Great! As an Aliens Fan though, just awful!

What other aliens?? The Deacon? That creature is basically understood to be the precursor to the Xenomorph we know today, a first step in it's evolution if you will. Ridley Scott explained he did not want to focus on the Xenomorph as we know it in this movie, instead he wanted to focus on the Space Jockey (The Engineers). Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof have clearly stated that it is not an Alien movie-Its a parallel story within the same universe.
"During the creative process of Prometheus, all involved (that includes Fox and Ridley) had a strong desire for this film to launch off in its own way so that by the end, it would not connect directly to the original ALIEN, but instead run parallel to it. This is something that I talked about many, many times in the press burst around the release of the movie. As you probably remember, there was a lot of interest as to whether Prometheus was a "prequel" - the answer was, "Yes. Sort of. But if there was a sequel to Prometheus, it would not be ALIEN." -Damon Lindelof
That quote was taken from this thread: Damon Lindelof talks truth behind Prometheus 2 rumors.

Well said, Svanya.
'As a fan of Alien' I freakin Love Prometheus, dude! Wathing them chronologically is the greates thing ever, I promise you!
Personally, i am so happy Prometeus brought something new to the table, while staying so true to the look, feel and slow build of the original.
Ridley knows what you need-don't fight it.

Well the Weyland Corporation should not have funded the expedition in Prometheus then.....I'll take in that it is a parallel story in the same universe, telling the story of the space jockey.....blah, blah, blah. I just don't want any part of "Alien" in Prometheus then!
Let's get real, Alien was a sci fi success and a classic but that is not what made the franchise so popular and Ridley Scott was only part of it.

I don't want this to turn into a negative thread. I am most certainly a sci fi nerd at heart and a die hard Aliens fan.
I speak on behalf of my friends, family, and fellow fans of the franchise that want to see certain things in the movies. Growing up with the movies, toys, and comics, we have done much research and spitballed ideas of what we think fans would want to see.
We were just crushed by what Prometheus was, too much hype and nothing of what we waited for years to see. I am not alone on this and I hope Prometheus 2 or whatever it's called will be improved.

@Jarhead Michael; No worries, everyone is allowed an opinion here.
There isn't going to be anything from "Alien" in the story, "Prometheus 2" is going to follow David and Shaw in her search for who the Engineers are. Also, Ridley Scott is a huge reason why "Alien" was so amazing, he took the time to listen to Dan O'Bannon and H.R Giger's ideas and respected their artistic input. I suggest you watch this documentary: "The Beast Within: The Making of Alien", it's linked within this thread, in 3 parts-Sci-fi/Alien documentaries. It details the making of the movie and has interviews with Giger, O'Bannon, most of the actors and Ridley Scott. It's an amazing documentary.
I totally feel you, a lot of people were disappointed, myself included, and a common thread is that is we all understood it was going to be an"Alien" movie. One thing I did do that really helped was to watch "The Furious Gods- The Making of Prometheus" to see what the creative process was, I recommend it. :)

@jarhead michael please dont insult the might of Prometheus and all that hype that the hardcore people speak about was their own HYPE! Like what Svanya said we all have our opinions here but dont bash a movie because YOU and you're friends hated it!
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

You gotta love the haters because without them we wouldnt feel so damn good!

If I hear one more whining about the Alien Im gonna go nuts with frustration its like dealing with a religious person and then explaining science to them, it never works!

There's nothing left to explore there ... Why do you want to see the same thing over and over again??? ... For that you have tons of video games, comics and novels ... a whole expanded universe for the lovers of "Space Marines vs Zerg vs Preds" :p

shambs...I think I speak for many Alien franchise fans when I say, and I think Jarhead Michael agrees, that since the first film in 79'many of us feel the resulting sequels gave diminishing returns and as fans, that's troubling and bothersome. We all have our feelings about the four sequels, that includes Prometheus and ignores the AVP experiment, but many of us feel that there's always been great potential in this franchise that HAS NOT been realized since Alien and we have every right to hope for even a glimpse of what we've felt in our first blush of experience in this world created by Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett and Ridley Scott. What's so wrong with that?
October 16, 2013
And even beyond that, as a fan of cinema, given the masterpiece that Alien is, I have every right to think, expect and hope that maybe...someone has the creative sense to tell a decent story with the proper atmosphere resulting in a film worthy of respect. And that goes for any film not just a film in the Alien franchise. I am so sick and tired seeing how little Hollyweird cares about solid storytelling, quality filmmaking, etc. Thank God for a rare gem, and I can even say Masterpiece, like Gravity. I was so hopeful that Prometheus would be of that caliber and I was sorely disappointed. As a fan, all I have is that hope and there's nothing wrong with it.

@craigamore Thank you! Your opinion and statements were respectable and defined well.

@Annunaki50 Don't attack me by saying I'm whining! You wouldn't know a good scifi movie if it bit you in the ass!
October 19, 2013
@Svanya Thank you. I will hold out for Prometheus 2.
@All Here is the brutal truth and the official idea of what a true Alien sequel should have: Let's be honest with ourselves, Alien and Aliens were the only successes of the franchise! Alien because it was an entirely new idea and Aliens because James Cameron is a genius and ran with the idea of the Xenos and Colonial Marines doing battle. The Marines are the only reason why the franchise became so popular with all the merchandising to follow.
October 19, 2013
@All Continued. (Official idea)
There needs to be a sequel that continues the story of the Weyland Corporation, Colonial Marines, and the Xenos. That's what fans have always wanted.
"Give the Weyland Corporation their biological weapon and have it released in a testing phase on a population on earth, with Marines as a Quick Reaction Force or a Disaster Relief Unit. Let these Marines contain a relative of Hicks or Apone or Hudson. Stay away from the CGI and use all the ideas that Cameron used and just expand them."
-These ideas would sell! They could have made an awesome Aliens game with Colonial Marines, but they half-assed it and everything was a huge failure!
-These things can be fixed.
These ideas would sell
Yes! Like the garbage that makes Michael Bay. Just because something sells well does not mean it is of high quality.
Also, Ridley Scott's style has nothing to do with Cameron's militaristic thing. Plus ... I don't like the idea of seeing the xenomorphs as mere cannon bait, that is not a biological weapon, is just another space bug concept ala Starship Troopers.
