What this means to Prometheus 2 is yet to be discovered.
If I had to bet, they'll just find hire another director and Scott will serve as producer, only. I want to be wrong, though.

CREMILDO - Hmm, this is extremely intersting news. That's the first I've ever heard of The Martian. I agree with you whole-heartedly - I really hope Scott won't step aside and let someone else to take the helm for the next Prometheus film. I can't help but feel that it would somehow lessen the film's creative and psychological impact. Regardless, thank you ever so much for sharing this information with us! :)

I have also heard that hes working on that project titled Pharaoh with ET help but its not going to be a series but a movie...thats where I read it. I honestly dont believe that Scott will step aside for P2. He'll probably work on two at the same time. He doesnt work on one project a year thats just not Ridley hes a busy guy with a show to host called Prophets of Science Fiction in the UK and USA Science Channel. Good show, they talk about how science fiction influences us for the future. H.G. Wells, Arthur C. Clark, Isaac Asimov, and others.

Wow. I didn't expect that. Is it still up-to-date that the filming of 'Prometheus 2' is this fall? What about the release date of 4 March 2016??
Is it possible that the film 'The Martian' will be released 2016 too?? If thats right that would be so awesome. Two Sci-Fi films by Ridley Scott in one year.
So the films which are remaining are just 'Blade Runner 2' and 'The Forever War'... I am looking forward to all of his films. Have you guys seen 'The Counselor'? It was a very thrilling film. The style was quite different to what we have seen before in gangster films. The dialogues were philosophical but comprehensible. I think that was the most thing I liked about it. But it was too much violence in the film. Escpecially the last scene with Brad Pitt...

123Engineer: it is highly possible that the March 2016 release date actually refers to The Martian. Remember, Fox never manifested themselves officially about those "leaks" in which "sources" claimed the date was for Prometheus 2.

Man if Ridley messes up prometheus then leaves it to someone else to patch up thats very poor indeed after all surely he had some deep well thought through story from part one up to part three inside his head. And never just made it up as he went along willy nilly... nooo that could never of happened :D ! And like people keep saying it was a rip roaring sucess so Ridley is bound to be directing the second with gusto :P ...
No but seriously that is bad news common ridley! I suppose it could get better without him directing but just adds to the disappointment of people expecting something brilliant from him. Just hope it pans out differently!
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

djamel, you childish baiting has gotten really tiresome. I'll leave it to someone else to take it. Each made-up point you cynically make ("making up the plot as he goes along, the film wasn't a success, yak yak yak") can be and have been easily refuted with facts.

Yes we all know your stand point crem not even Ridley and lindelof shouting through loud speaker would change your mind denial is a strange thing. Lol :D
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

Said it before and I'll say it again. I'll believe P2 is "a go" when they actually start filming. P2 just simply isnt as high profile as other franchises right now. Not to mention that Scott has plenty of other ideas/movies lined up and he isnt getting any younger.
I'm hoping Ridley comes back to direct, but I'm thinking if P2 ever gets done, it will probably be someone else in the director's chair.

draekus: at least Fox have been developing it and two writers have been brought onboard already. But you're right, unless they hire another director, Prom 2 will take a while to reach the screens.

Yup. That being said...should we start yet another thread on which replacement director we would like for P2? :)

That'd be cool, yeah.
---------------------------------------------------------
One more thing: the next time someone interviews Scott, please just ASK HIM him whether he is planning to direct Prom 2 himself. It can't be that difficult to just ask!

Well His Schedule is packed, he has a lot of movies he wishes to do, and then we got Prom 2/3 and Blade Runner 2, and Ridley is not getting any younger.
I am sure that Ridley has sat down with Fox and thrashed out the bare bones back story to how they want to go with Prometheus 2 etc and this information would then be given to the Script Writers.
So even if Ridley does not take a very active role in the movie when ever it gets shot, i am sure that his ideas would be taken on board.. i.e it wont go in a direction differently to what Ridley had planned, for example how Aliens introduced that a Queen Laid the Eggs and thus hint maybe thats how they got onto the Derelict, this idea of Queen and laying Eggs was not one Ridley thought of.... dont want this to go into a Aliens bashing thread or pro Queen one.
My point is that the Evolution of how the sequel would go from Alien had no input off Rildey only as far as it followed and used the Xeno Cycle Egg - Face Huger- Chest Buster - Xeno.....
So my point is that even if Ridley does not take full control i am sure his ideas for how he roughly wants to go would already be known by the production team and writting staff.
For Example... If Ridley wants to scrab the Elders look from Prometheus deleted scenes, and basically only have one kind of Engineers and that higher than them is a new Race that looks different and more Alien... Then i am sure this would be taken on board for the sequel.
If Ridley had idea that they explore the Deacon and that it some how can implant Embryos into Victims, then this would be taken on board for the Sequel.
In a nutshell regardless if Ridley has a major part to play i am sure he has thrashed out with Fox etc how he wants to go as far as broad stokes, to Xeno connection and Orgin, Engineers connection and reason for Sacrifice/Create Mankind, and where the Bio Tech comes from and the connection with Goo etc etc.

#Big Dave
Why are you talking about Prometheus 3? He never said that he want to make a trilogy. Just two prequels to Alien. I'm sure that someday there will be a sequel or something else but not by Ridley Scott.

I cant seem too find a article but maybe someone here can or back me up.. ;)
But Ridley has said that the movie is set up for a sequel and that the franchise would not be able to be told in one movie that it would require two and maybe three movies in total.
So he has not said there will be a 3rd part but he has said that it COULD span over 3 parts.
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

When you think of the scope of the movie it would require at least 3 hours more to even start to fit everything in, so 3 parts would make sense.
But with all rumours going around, there could indeed be just one more movie that wil centre more around LV 223 and the Xeno and so who knows maybe a U-Turn and thus the Engineers become as much a Enigma with Questions never to be answered as the Space Jockey was near 35 years ago.
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

Spaights said in an interview that the story was always meant to be told over multiple films, and that what he discussed with Ridley was: " sometimes a duology, but more often a trilogy". Which was certainly what I was hoping for!

There was supposed to be a trilogy not some double movie special. If you're going to explain the species and motives of all alien and human origins its not going to be in two movies. Star Wars almost has 7 and yet according to some unreliable sources we only get 2? Thats not quite what Ridley had in mind or FOX they also were behind SW success so why not Alien/Prometheus movies?!...
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

I am going by memory here, but way back when Prom was still fresh Ridley Scott alluded to a planned trilogy.
Finding it out shouldn't be difficult: one just needs to find a source of archived news from the film. Perhaps SlashFilm or The Playlist have it?

I also would be satisfied if there is just one sequel to Prometheus. A trilogy sounds good but what if the second director cannot capture the feeling of Prometheus 1 and 2? I don't want it to be like Alien and Aliens. Aliens was very good but the style was different. It was more of an action-movie than a scifi-horror-thriller like the first one.

There is a lot to cover in remaining movies...
These are some few points that could but may not be covered..
More History of Weyland Industries...
How did the Derelict get to LV 426 and why?
What is the connection to Mural/Xeno and Goo?
These are questions that could well be answered that may need answering to some degree.
Regarding Paradise...
Does David and Shaw get to Paradise and what to they find, and if there are any Engineers or Elders how to they react and then what consequences does that have for Earth.
If there is little left or non then do we find out why?
Does Shaw get her answers to why we was created and why then to be Destroyed?
Do we see why the Engineers visited us in the past (assuming the Cave Paintings and other clues was left after interaction with Engineers).
Do we find out the true Agenda of the Engineers and their Hierarchy, and why they never came back to Earth or LV 223.
Regarding LV 223...
Does some Human Mission to find out/recover Prometheus take place?
Do they detect Shaws SOS and then send in some Marines or Androids first?
Do they detect the LV 426 signal on route and investigate?
How long does it take for such mission to get to LV 223 and then by then...
a) What becomes of the Hammerpedes and Deacon?
b) What becomes of the Goo left on the floor?
c) Does the leakage kick start some kind of Teraforming, or is LV 223 to remain as Baron as it was in Prometheus.
If there are other Temples which seems to be the case, do they get explored too and what is found?
David said there are many Juggernaughts surely that means more than the Two we saw in Prometheus, what is on board?
What becomes of LV 223? As surely by the time of Alien there has to be nothing left (Destroyed) as otherwise why go to all the hassle to go to LV 426, when LV 223 holds more rewards/treasure.
Regarding the Xeno...
Do we find out the Xeno Orgins, what came first the Xeno the Egg or the Goo. (Urns)?
Do we find out the connection between the Xeno and the Mural and the Creature in the Frescos and the Xeno/Deacon and Engineers?
Do we find out if LV 223 is where the Xeno originated from and why?
Do we find the true purpose for the Xeno, or other experiments that led to the Xeno or came from it?
Regarding Engineers on LV 223...
Do we find out more about what happened on LV 223, the connection with the Engineers and the Mural and Urns and what really was there Plan.
Do we find out where they got there Bio Tech from, and the Juggernaught ships etc ? (as the Elders and Sacrifice scenes show us they never seemed to have that back then).
Do we find out if there is some conflict between these Engineers and Paradise ones?
Regarding Weyland Yutani....
Do we see or get clues as to how this company formed, i.e is one of the companies in major trouble after the events of Prometheus/Prometheus Part/3 or what ever.
Who runs Weyland Industries with Vickers Dead and Peter Weyland?
Do get shown more of Yutani and what they are all about?
Regarding Androids....
Do we get to see more David 8s, looks like it?
But do we get to see reasons why Bishop said early models was twitchy?
Weyland files indicate there are a lot and i mean tons of Androids in service, is that the case by the time of Alien, as everyone on board is not happy to know Ash is a Android so they must came to a point that Androids was not to be trusted or proved a failure.
Do we get to see what Yutani Androids/Robots are like as well they could not use the realistic patents that make Weyland Androids so Human.
And finally what becomes of our beloved David 8 from Prometheus?
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

@123Engineer...
Your post made me think about a good point....
Surely maybe by now or when they are finishing off the draft for Part 2 they would know if they would be making a part 3 and where its going.
When Prometheus was made it was left kind of open, left it open for a number of things to be explored. Rildey even felt the movie could stand as a stand alone movie if no sequels came about but that it lent to having one.
My point being that surely Fox would want to either finish most stuff off with the 2nd movie or set it up for a 3rd and know what is do be done in that.
As they can not have Part 2 be left with open ending or unanswered questions that would hint to the need for a Part 3 and then end up not making a Part 3 if say Part 2 did worse than Part 1 and thus Fox decide its not worth doing another movie in the franchise.
That would be a bummer...
so i would think they would rougly know where they are going and what things related to by post before that they will answer and explore and what they will not.
I have a feeling regarding your main last point, that the movie will try and give some depth and more Sci Fi/Space Oddesy and say Mountains of Madness feel in the next movie and how deep would depend if they are going to Paradise, or just LV 223.
I feel a movie that goes to Paradise will give us a Alien feeling to it more than Aliens.
I feel a movie that goes to LV 223 will have a more Aliens vibe to it but not on the scale of Aliens.
Or they could go for something that is neither like a Alien movie, or Aliens.
When you think of it Alien 3 was more of a kind of back to Alien way of things, and Alien R was more of a Aliens flick, and i would assume the Sequel to Prometheus will touch up between those two styles...
So more Alieny than Aliens but less Aliens than Aliens if you know what i mean?
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

Yeah.. you're kind of right. I can indeed imagine a Prometheus sequel which is like Aliens but it is very unlikely after Fox said that it will be more Alien-y. It would be a horror if the sequel would be a bummer and if they put their whole plans for the franchise off...
Which director would you suggest if Ridley Scott can't direct Prometheus 2?

Well when they said more Alieny...
Its a open comment, as it could refer to a movie with more connection to the Xeno, than more vague like Prometheus was as after Lindeloff came on board the plan was to tone down Alien/Xeno elements of Spaights draft that was too Alieny.
I am sure that Prometheus has a lot of critics and a lot was at the lack of Alieny elements in the movie, disapointment we never got answers and also how the Deacon looked (which when you understand how the Goo works and the events that led to it you understand why it does not look like a Xeno).
So maybe Fox think more money is to be had by making the sequel more Alieny in that way, also there are rumours that Ridley was very happy with Spaights draft.
But then again the term Alieny could also mean the vibe and feel that Alien gave which was a Horror movie, now the reason Alien had that element was because the crew of the Nostramo was not trained and so they was up against a Alien Lifeform that could use the ship enviroment to its advantage picking the crew off one by one, and the crew did not have Military Training or Weapons to deal with such a threat.
We basically got the same tense feeling we got from another masterpeice The Thing (1982).
Alien 3 tried to go that kind of route also...
However if we assume the 2nd movie will be about a recovery mission then i am sure they would take protective procautions on a rescue mission and if it involves more than one David 8, then i am not sure how they Alien Horror Element would work as it would surely have to be about the Lone Deacon, and Hammerpedes, but no soon as any crew go down and get infected with Goo then we are going to have a lot of Monsters on the go.
So i am not sure it would give us the same effect as Alien, but yes could be same effect as a movie such as Alien 3 or even The Thing if you know what i mean.
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

Goddamnit, if ALL THIS is true, I'm really pissed off. Why the bloody f#^k would he and the studio abandon Prometheus 2 (or worse yet, hand it off to someone else) to work on some Mars movie instead? Again, I am a sucker for Mars movies and will likely look forward to it no matter who does it, but that doesn't change the fact that Mars movies are NEVER a good investment and Prometheus was. Prometheus needs to be done by Ridley. It's his direction and imagination that makes it so great.
I'm really pissed off. We need to start a petition to 20th Century Fox. Hand the Mars movie over to someone else and MAKE Ridley do Prometheus 2... he seemed so excited about it, too... what the $#^@ %^&#$@$ $@^ @#$^&^

I feel your pain, Leech. It's like a prolonged withdrawl. But hey, we gotta "stay frosty", ha ha.

If Ridley can't do it, i want Michael Mann to do it, but then again, there's more chance of me coppin off with Cheryl Cole
The poster was good though!

Cheryl Cole lol
Does that mean we get a full CGI Movie with Actors being Voice Overs lol
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017

BigDave; Do you mean Michael Bay?
Michael Mann made 'HEAT' staring De Niro and Pacino.
'MANHUNTER' the film that introduced us to Hannibal Lectar.
'LAST OF THE MOHICANS.'
'THE AVIATOR.'
'THE INSIDER.'
'ALI.' etc
He's one of the best director/Producers out there, but he doesn't get the credit he rightly deserves. Unfortunately, he's never done a Sci-Fi film (i think,) but i think he'd do an amazing job!
The poster was good though!

The Martian's release date has been moved up! It'll hit multiplexes in November 2015 now. https://twitter.com/boxofficemojo/status/495306049604161537
Well, if another director is chosen, then for my money I would like for it to be Christopher Nolan. The man knows how to put together a story, and would do a fine job as director. Besides, for his work on Batman Begins, he was heavily influenced by Blade Runner. I really think the movie would be in great hands, and would be a great success.

I, too, wonder who could take command of the film in case Scott bails.
I'd like a director able to create an alien atmosphere, a dense sense of the otherwordly and deliberate pacing. Not someone who shoots chaotically, without bothering to organize all aspects of the frame. A person who knows how to build dread and suspense and awe-inspiring moments.
Who could do it?
Duncan Jones. Caradog W. James. Christian Alvart. Guillermo Del Toro (possibly too high-profile for this now). Gareth Edwards. Matt Reeves.
