'Sir Ridley Scott has confirmed that he still has a few ideas that he could turn into another film rattling around in his mind.'
Scott: "I think there is another story. I've got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure."
Considering that Blade Runner 2049 was not a box office favourite last year, Ridley Scott's words can be viewed as good news for the Alien Covenant sequel as well.
'Ridley Scott had a big problem with Blade Runner 2049 and admits he's partially to blame:'
"The big idea comes from Blade Runner," he said. "[Replicant creator] Tyrell is a trillionaire, maybe 5 to 10 percent of his business is AI. Like God, he has created perfect beings that, for all intents and purposes, there is no telling the difference from humans. Then he says, 'You know what? I'm going to create an AI. I'll have a male and female, they will not know that they're both AIs, I'll have them meet each other, they will fall in love, they will consummate, and they will have a child'. That's the first film. The second film is, what happens to the baby?"
"I have to be careful what I say. It was f**king way too long. F**k me! And most of that script's mine."
Wow it sounds like RS he wants to ruin Blade Runner too? I am sorry Ridley Scott, but the original Blade Runner WAS NOT about two AIs trying to "have a baby". Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time, and not even RS can reshape that film into something different from what it really is.
These are probably the most distasteful and disgraceful statements to ever come from Ridley Scott's mouth. Trying to throw shade at Denis Villeneuve and taking credit for the screenplay... I am sorry but this has to be said: Ridley Scott is (or was until he let his business persona take over the artist) a man of taste, not a man of ideas. His craft equals poetry in motion, he can build cinematic universes you can almost step into, you get trasported, entranced. But his movies are generally as good as the script they are based on. As of late, he has been pretty delusional, and these statements are further proof of that.
Maybe Luke should step in.
It would be nice to see and enjoy a movie- then wonder and discuss and that's it. It is tiresome that a mindset exists to keep making sequels and then prequels when the idea well runs dry.
dk No this is Ridley (unconciously or not) trying to prevent "Blade Runner: 2049" from achieving cult status. Maybe if he produces a rushed sequel, delivered "on budget and on time", the previous one would not be remembered as such. And he makes this damaging statemenst just as "Blade Runner: 2049" is being released on Blu ray????????

(“It’s slow. It’s slow. Long. Too long. I would have taken out half an hour,” Scott told Al Arabiya), he seems to be eager to return to the series.
When asked about continuing the saga, Scott told Digital Spy, “I hope so. I think there is another story. I’ve got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure.”

Scott recently spoke with Vulture about how he helped to shape the script for “Blade Runner 2049.”
“Most of that script’s mine,” he said. “I sit with writers for an inordinate amount of time and I will not take credit, because it means I’ve got to sit there with a tape recorder while we talk. I can’t do that to a good writer. But I have to, because to prove I’m part of the actual process, I have to then have an endless amount [of proof], and I can’t be bothered.”
joylitt Well, RS says a lot of things. Frankly, I am unsure how much longer he can keep going and might consider hand things off to his son.
So is he actually complaining he did not get credit as a writer? A famous director like him would need a "tape recorder" to prove he wrote it too? He is being so petty. I am truly brokenhearted...
That is strange. Complaints like that from some one of that stature sound petty to me.
And a a master of slow build tension and morose filmaking declaring he would "cut half an hour" to a visual masterpiece obviously made as a tribute to that style. Does he not remember how it feels to be told stuff like that? I imagine lots of executives telling him the exact same thing about "Conquest Of Paradise"
I think this is proof that ridley neads to step down from directing the alien prequels. I had supported him and actually enjoyed covenant a lot but now he seams to just try to make money. He should remain an executive producer for the films( he dose have a good buisness eye) but I think that a younger more passionate director should take over like doug limen(edge of tomorrow) , matt reaves(dawn and war for the planet of the apes plus cloverfield) or guillermo del toro.

I am so amazed at Ridleys reasoning: On one hand, the very divisive "Alien Covenant" underperformed because the audience was not interested in seeing more of the xenomorph (the audience's fault), not because the movie was poorly edited with zero suspense, lack of character development, the scares didn't work and the sets sucked. On the other hand, the universally acclaimed "Blade Runner: 2049" underperformed because it was so f*cking long and so f*cking slow (the director's fault; clearly the audience wants to see more of Blade Runner in the Ridley Scott style whatever that may be nowadays)
Well, the most idiotic component of BR49 (that Tyrell made Replicants that could reproduce and live a normal life span, then why lie to Roy, why setup an experiment in which you die and can't even confirm that they can reproduce? ) is his idea... and that is the most concerning for me.
red0guy I can live with that as long as both movies are somehow self-contained in my own head. But to say the first Blade Runner was about two AIs who wanted to make a baby is a long stretch. Replicants are not AIs and the first Blade Runner was all about ambiguity. Soon enough RS will be claiming he gave Philip K. Dick the idea to write "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ridley Scott is a man who throws a lot of the ideas, he basically comes up with a Broad synopsis and ideas and then someone else goes and takes these ideas into a draft and then they evolve from there.
I have not seen BR2049 yet, but its definitely a movie i will be getting soon, i have only heard positive things about the movie, but then only a selective audience would be into it, much like a direct Prometheus 2 would have been. So for me it sounded like the kind of movie i would be interested in and i do think the Franchise has potential to not be limited to just TWO movies.

BigDave - Blade Runner 2049 is a beautiful movie but there are some not so important and visually not so interesting scenes in it which should have been cut. :/
Ati WOW you are demanding to watch outakes of some other trash that didn't make into Alien Covenant final cut but you say Blade Rubber 2049 has unimportant and visually uninteresting parts that should have been cut. You have impeccable taste, I have to say.
Any random passage of Blade Runner 2049 is infinitely more visually complex and interesting than the whole Alien Covenant. Take the cinematography alone: one movie has Roger Deakins, the other has some dude using a crappy blue filter during the entire movie. Ridley is just jelous.
