How exactly does she figure that even if the Engineer did reach Earth, it would somehow wipe out all life or even just humans with its primitive and crude "biological weapon" of which there was hardly enough of to do sufficient damage. This isn't even taking into account the fact that there is no deployment system evident in the cargo hold, just a few hundred vases with glass tubes containing minute amounts of the substance.
Let's say he is successfully able to distribute it evenly across a large geographical region, how would that create an apocalypse? It would poison a few thousand animals at most and possibly trigger a few reactions/mutations that in 2095 I would hope they would easily be able to contain.
Love the movie, just don't get this plot point. But damn if that collision isn't one of the best scenes of the movie.
