Retcon Prometheus? Weyland-Yutani already merged for Alien TV series and Alien: Romulus

AdminEngineerApr-30-2023 7:05 AMThe Weyland-Yutani Corporation will be at the core of both the Alien FX TV series by Noah Hawley and Fede Alvarez's Alien movie! Although the TV series will be introducing another tech Corporation called "Prodigy Corp", the iconic Alien franchise evil conglomerate WeYu will remain as a tether connecting it to the rest of the franchise.
The first set photo from Fede Alvarez's movie below features a big Weyland-Yutani sign:
And concept art for the TV series also sports the iconic logo:
Given the TV series takes place in the "not-so-distant" future on Earth, it raises questions if the new series and film will be ret-conning Prometheus? At the time of Prometheus, the Weyland Corporation and Yutani Corporation were separate entities, having not yet merged.
The Fede Alvarez movie being a soft reboot in a way also begs the question if aspects of the Alien prequels will be referenced at all or factored into the storyline.
It appears the Alien timeline might be a bit skewed due to this one fundamental detail. We already can assume the Alien vs. Predator movies are no longer canonical with the new timeline, but now it appears Prometheus and Covenant might be in their own lane /alternate Alien reality as well - which would really bum me out.
What do you think?

This is reminding me of how the newer Resident Evil remakes are just retconning away their older games storylines that were crucial to the Resident Evil continuity until 2019.
