Dead Meat: Into Battle choice....

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 6:50 PMSimilar to the other threads below, we have a new choice.
Red Meat- You can only choose one to watch: Prometheus or Covenant
Off Meat: You can only choose one to Watch: Aliens or Alien Resurrection
Soy Meat- You can only choose one synthetic for your crew. Who do you pick and why?
This time you are going into a hive to rescue a hapless friend. Which of the following leader's do you follow into battle and why?
You are the wingman of the pair in (x)
1. Dallas & (Kane)
2. (Drake) & Vasquez
3. Hicks & (Hudson)
4. Dillon & (Morse)
5. Johner & (Christie)
6. Captin Janek & (Jackson)
7. Daniels & (Tee)
Ripley has been deliberately omitted for fun and debate, as she would be an immensely popular and easy answer :)
GO!

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 7:00 PMMy Vote is Dillon because he is loyal to a fault, uncompromising and merciless, but has compassion. He will never quit or let down those he calls family. to the end.

MemberTrilobiteAug-20-2017 7:01 PMIRAPTUS - My vote is for Hicks and Hudson! The reasoning behind this decision is simple: Hicks is an amazingly good-looking gentleman - and he knows how to teach a lady a thing or two about firearms. ;)

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 7:13 PMHicks & (Hudson) for me is a first pick. Tough choice. The reason why is they were professional soldiers with really great weaponry.
Dillon & (Morse) is great to argue for first because Dillon gave the greatest speech in righteous anger in the cafeteria and most likely would have talked me into following him after that.
Really great topic IRaptus.

MemberTrilobiteAug-20-2017 7:18 PMIRAPTUS - Oh, bloody oath! I forgot that part! Can I PLEASE be Ripley instead? Pretty please? :)

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 7:18 PMIngeniero thank you kindly.
lol yes Dillon's speech would psyche up anyone into following him

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 7:20 PMSomething Real Alright, just for you lol
I deliberately left Ripley out as a leader to follow in the interest of debate and fun. We'd likely all pick her if she was a choice lol
Something Real
MemberTrilobiteAug-20-2017 7:21 PMIRAPTUS - Thank you! Do not worry - Hicks can have the lead with me any time! :)

MemberTrilobiteAug-20-2017 7:47 PMHmm.....I agree with Dillon- he had nothing to lose and had an interesting ethical code and leadership style when it mattered although Daniels was pretty bad ass too.
I.Raptus
MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 8:01 PMdk Dillon was a tank. Powerhouse brute-force brawler. Never a backwards step. If he had some decent hardware besides a fire-ax he would've been hard to stop I imagine.
Sadly we didn't get to see enough of Janek in action, he would've been a close second.
It'll be interesting to see Daniels develop (providing she isn't cast off like Shaw) in the next film. She has some fire about her, and nothing to lose now

MemberChestbursterAug-20-2017 8:15 PMGreat topic IRaptus !
Well, my first instinct is to choose Tennessee, because he actually survives. ...At least...until the end of the movie. With David in control of things, his fate is a little up in the air. But, his spouse dies, so that's gonna have to be a no-go for me.
I could probably pretty seamlessly replace Hudson because if I were in a situation like that IRL, I'd be panicking the entire time exactly like him. Plus, I get to meet Bishop, and that's cool. So, yeah, I'll be Hudson.

MemberChestbursterAug-20-2017 9:05 PMI am going to go a little wild and choose Johner and Kristie! Kristie is badass as a second or third in command, but takes control of situations well while still playing nice with others! Plus, he seems pretty damn loyal.
Johner is a DICK... But he is a certified badass who isn't really afraid to actually take anything on. He voices plenty of concern, but he will still fight.
Not sure who the sidekick is in this scenario... Kristie since he is listed second? I think of him as the leader in that pair, so I am making an executive decision and will make my myself Johner, the wingman!

MemberPraetorianAug-20-2017 11:09 PMVivisectedEngineer solid!! You know Hicks will always have your back. His quiet confidence and level-head would keep you calm and re-assured during a firefight. A true leader to follow to hell and back.
cuponator3000 great choice! Both of them are bad-ass and good in a firefight. Fearless and barn-storming you know they have the balls to waltz on into a xeno alive and make it back out alive again. They both showed tactical awareness and adaptability

MemberChestbursterAug-21-2017 8:24 AMDaniels & (Tee) Simply because Daniels is a badass and there's nothing like watching the back of a beautiful woman ;)

Xenomorphs are not insects
cuponator3000
MemberChestbursterAug-21-2017 9:39 AMWalter, they are better than just insects, but even Ridley compares them to cockroaches. It was on the A:C commentary. I think it was when he mentioned the Xeno could regrow limbs and what not. He referenced cockroaches because they can, like, live without heads and survive nuclear blasts and what not. I think he also compared their aesthetic to a cockraoch a little bit (he said big, beautiful cockroaches I think. Not sure.)
I know what you meant, but the insect comparison will always be relevant, I tihnk.
Back to the topic though. Lawrence of Arabia, I was going to choose them, but I didn't want to pick the newest pair lol. A good choice either way!

MemberChestbursterAug-21-2017 9:44 AMcuponator3000 I commend your decision to go with the Resurrection crew :) They're not a bad choice imo as they are hardened mercenaries with a variety of skills such Kristie's leadership and Revolver Ocelot-esque ricochet shots. I love the choices (except maybe Dallas and Kane lol) but Daniels is hot af and I'd prefer to partner with a badass like her :P

MemberChestbursterAug-21-2017 9:51 AMcuponator3000 I can attest to Ridley's commentary track and the cockroaches, I believe it was during the Covenant climax fight. At this point I believe Ridley considers all the films canon and Aliens more so, so the hive thing is still intact. The motes even produce tiny insects, the shock troops, that infect hosts in Covenant.

MemberChestbursterAug-21-2017 4:20 PMTo all you folks taking offense at Xenomorphs being compared to insects and/or cockroaches, F.Y.I., cockroaches are extremely intelligent.
I.Raptus
MemberPraetorianAug-21-2017 5:40 PMVivisectedEngineer agreed.
Im a fan of the Eggmorphing concept but it is what it is. Like it or not there is a Queen and/or hive in Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. Its not my preference but I accept it. So apologises Walter but with all due respect, they are in the same universe.
I understand the reasoning that a queen and hive makes the xeno's more akin to insects. This effectively brings them down to our level of understanding, thus removing their fear and mystery. And I agree.
But at the end of the day a Hive with a Queen is a very efficient and logical mode of colonisation for a species with large numbers.
Resources are centralised and can be monopolised by the holding species, the eggs and juvenile young are protected, defence is superbly strong and near impenetrable for an invading force, rapid propagation, rapid mobilisation. Strength in numbers and all that.
For a perfect organism, a hive sounds like a perfectly feasible trait for the xenomorphs - once they start building in numbers.

Oh hell yes! The bees and ants which xeno social structure is modeled after are extremely intelligent!
