@Velocet, great post. Lets just hope FOX lets Ridley Scott make a sequil, and let only Ridley Scott do it and not anouther director. Fingers crossed.

Ridley is already attached to do BLADE RUNNER sequel, THE KIND ONE, and an adaptation of THE COUNSELOR. Either the BR sequel is really THE PROMETHEUS sequel, or it will be a while before we see one.

At Comic Con last year, Ridley did say he loved Lindelof's script so much he wanted him to work on another one straight away... it's on youtube somewhere :)

Well that's exciting! Sounds like Prometheus 2 happens as long as Prometheus does well... so I'll be doing my best to make sure that happens.

I hope that Prometheus is substantial enough not to require or even suggest a sequel. I think asking for a sequel to an excellent movie smacks of selfishness and immaturity.

So, right now, all there is is the concept of doing a Blade Runner film? Nothing more than that? Right. I just thought Prometheus was so enjoyable — returning to the world of science fiction was so fun — that I wanted to [go back to Blade Runner, too]. I’m also thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2. Do you think there will be one? [Knocks the wood coffee table and grins] It doesn't get much better than that boys and girls.......

The ship appears to have rotating engines. The earlier scene of the ship initiating orbit above the planet(if this is the same craft) has the engines in forward thrust position. Looking at this shot it the engines appear to have rotated and landed from a vertical position. Then again it dosen't explain why they would land the craft so far away from their destination and need the ATV in the first place. The suspense is killing me.....hurry up June.

Nephilim_LV426Alien Movies Forummovies to watch while we wait
Altered States (1980) scared the crap out of me. The theme was that if you took a psychedelic bio-changing drug and went into an isolation tank, you physically regressed. When William Hurt came out of that tank and he couldn't speak because his voice-box was now ape-like...I was freaked...and enjoyed every minute of it...I won't spoil it, but he does go almost ALL the way back... I was a Bio major at the time and into the whole 'tapping into our genomes' thing that was just starting to happen...recombinant DNA etc. Of course in 1980 'Altered State' meant something else too... Sometime after I saw this movie I found a place where you could rent an isolation tank for an hour. I went in. I'll tell you I was just too damn nervous to relax and enjoy it. Just at the point when my skin started to lose all feeling, the bell rang...time was up... But I'll never forget it...or the movie.

it just hurts to watch A3, for the very reasons that you mention...there was a lot of beautiful imagery, but the liberties they took with the story were so tragic, talk about trying to kill the franchise- and then the following movies, well I dont even acknowledge those, I think its genius how Sir Ridley is taking this glorious detour and reclaiming what should have stayed in able hands like his or camerons...I have never been this excited about a movie, I feel like the 12 year old I was when I went to see Aliens...geeks dream come true

I would assume it's the DNA reflex. Most animals give birth to more developed and independent offspring than humans do. If the ox gave birth to a normal calf, it would be able to stand and walk almost immediately. (I went with ox b/c the extended version is far superior.)

BB, "It is widely accepted that the embryo will grow to a size that is best suited to the host organism. It would appear that the embryo will develop to a point that is consistent and proportionate to the size of the host, and the space available to it within the host. Through this theory it is believed that the embryo will continue to develop until this size restriction/requirement is met. The best example of this to date is the Alien recorded from Fiorina 161. Being born of an ox the resulting hatchling was much larger than those recorded aboard the Nostromo and the terra-forming colony on LV-426. It was also much further along in its development - to the point that the Alien was born in with striking likeness to its adult stage: It's cranium was fully developed and had separated from its back; it had full use of all of its limbs; it had fully developed secondary jaws; its tail was proportionate to its body; and its exoskeleton was distinct, and already well formed. Yet, once mature, the adult Alien was of similar size, if not the same, as those recorded in all prior instances of Alien activity - including those encountered aboard the Auriga 200 years later. However, this idea should not be construed as meaning that an Alien could develop from embryo to adult prior to birth should the host organism present a large enough internal environment. Given the life cycle of I. raptus, it's apparent dietary needs, and it's need to molt between birth and adulthood it is clear that it must emerge from it's host before the final stages of development can occur. Through this it is believed that the hatchling recorded on Fiorina 161 may have been of maximum developmental size - especially when the exit wound is cross referenced with that of the Jockey" Regards, Rick

CBT1979Alien Movies ForumHow smart was the Alien?!
Good question, though in the end i think ridley scott and dan o'bannon Might just wanted to have that as the "Surprise" showdown between ripley and the alien. i dont think that the alien understood What mother said.

Aquila210Alien Movies ForumHow smart was the Alien?!
Smartness requires a lot of conciousness, and like Ash said, the Alien is not irritated at all by useless thinking about other things than fulfilling it's task to survive. So I always thought the Alien is mainly driven by it's instincts - it just senses where the prey is and what to do in order to survive. Since Ripley was the last prey to hunt for it followed her actions and knew where Ripley wanted to go. It didn't need to understand mother. Not sure if there is a lot of smartness involved to take the life boat - it may be just good instincts. Rats are leaving a sinking ship, too and while being able to work and interpret information better than other animals to survive, I wouldn't call rats "smart". (Don't hurt me rat lovers ;-)) )

If the xeno's are created from humans or robots then it would make sense that they have some conciousness. My theory has been for a long time that the Engineers are in trouble with breeding and use Shaw to make babies..... (not that I blame them). I also believe that there will be a lot of genetic smarts handed over through DNA. This seems to happen with the Xeno's whether it be instictual or conciousness. I know certain fractions on here don't like to link any of the other films to Alien (I love all of the films - warts and all, and get annoyed by people picking at them), but the Xeno's must have been smart to turn off the electric and navigate safely past the robot guns to the marines, but also pretty dumb not to find Newt.....

Aquila210Alien Movies ForumHow smart was the Alien?!
@BellaisanAlien Smartness transfer via DNA? Good point! (not for robots, but for biological lifeforms). But passing the robot guns in Aliens was not so smart. It wasn't like one Alien showed up, got shot and the others learned from it. Many Aliens died in the gunfire before they came up with trying another route. Not that smart, eh? Outsmarted by Newt, too, yes. Shutting down the electric was not necessarly a smart thought, maybe they just felt like destroying something...

dbPrometheus ForumViews on the species films
Species 1: Great sci-fi T & A! I'm with Snork on the cocooning scene. Nicely done. Plot... ehh. Ending CG of Sil... pleeease. Species 2: Really? So... it's a guy this time aaaaand Sil's good?... Ash vs. Bishop? All been done before. Species 3 -17: Crap. Splice was a better film all around, but again, nothing new in the "idea arena". That's why I hope Ridley can bring us some truly fresh sci-fi/horror with Promoetheus.

A cat is too small to gestate a xeno, so why would the Alien be interested. I reckon Ridley want us to think that something sinister had happened to Jones to put us off the fact that it had actually boarded the Narcisas.

Interesting points. I think that the Xenos were possibly used as bio weapons or purging agents for terroforming, however the SJs perhaps came across the xenos accidentally on the xeno home world and didnt develope them. Re Earth invasion, I dont think Man Kind would have a chance in Hell in ridding our planet of xenos if we were unfortunate enough to have them infect Earth. Imagine the millions of places and environments they could hide. The xenos would spread from country to country like a super virus. We cant even stop the Flu let alone an infiltration from another world. I believe that the SJs bit off more than they could chew, as we saw in Alien. Perhaps they thought that the xenos were controlable, and as we saw in Jurasic Park Nature, even on another world, always finds a way. regardless I still dont believe that the Derelict originally contained the eggs. I stand by the idea that the Derelict landed on too of a Silo/Structure which contained the eggs and they were harvesting them and the rest is history. What the xenos were actually doing on LV426 in the first place and who built the Silo....That remains to be seen.
