Be very wary of IMDB as a lot of rubbish gets posted there.
As for the pictures, Scott has stated that the Space Jockey is in a suit with another creature inside, so I have my doubts with that image. The Jockeys could be any design they like.
The alien creature picture looks like something from AVATAR and not from the Alien universe.
If these are the designs I will be very, very disappointed.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumLeaked space jockey design pics?Sep 9, 2011
I am disappointed with the inner-creature, but not with the SJ. I think the SJ looks pretty darn cool to be honest, I actually quite like the look of the double jointed legs.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumLeaked space jockey design pics?Sep 9, 2011
If you look at it from a structural standpoint....Hmmmmm. The SJ looks like a suit. The carapace on the back has vents running through it like a breathing apparatus or filter. Remember the facehugger was filtering atmosphere for Kane. The legs would be capable of launching that SJ like a terrestrial insect if they contract that fully. No need for ladders, or stairs. It could more than likely leap from level to level. If it's not a suit and what we see is not the result of dessication, the complete lack of any visible fatty tissues would indicate that this might be a chitinous exoskeleton. That opens up an entirely different subset of possibilities.
ReplyMister_JonzePrometheus ForumQueen Question...Sep 8, 2011
I totally agree with all of you that anything after Alien is probably gonna be forgotten by Scott, I just wondered if the Queen would get a mention for continuity sake. Also agreed is that she has been done to death, and in my opinion her presence should have only been included in Aliens and the end of Alien 3. In 4 she looks ridiculous and in AvP…well, let's not talk about that. And I do hate what Cameron did to the Alien in the second film. The head was all wrong, it lost it's gracefulness, it's mystery. What I loved about the original Alien is that with the domed head, it looked like a spaceman itself.
I loved the scene with Brett and Dallas being coccooned or being turned into eggs, or whatever it was the Alien was doing to them. I read somewhere once that it was doing that because there was no Queen present, and it was a natural survival instinct to keep it's species thriving. I do like the idea of the Queen eventually becoming a sort of mutated Alien gene.
Ps - hehe Jonsey you can be the legendary kitty from the first film, but Jonze is my surname. Sheer coincidence :-)

I have listened to it, and the fact he won awards for providing the soundtrack to the Social Network really shows his worth. He is a legend and it would be great for him to work on this.

What happened aboard the Nostromo was almost a text book case study of the effects of a Xenomorphic infestation on a small population in a confined environment with no advanced facilities at their disposal. I tend to think that Ash was malfunctioning following his little warm-up jogging moment. I can see the validity in both CarterJ's as well as Ruhaniya's points of view. At that point in time it was a novel concept that had not been revisited so there was nothing to base previous knowledge of the Xenomorph or it's life cycle on. Depending on the parameters of his behavioral algorhythms, Ash may have had complete autonomy to deal with the events of the initial encounter as he saw fit. Obviously Ash lacked the same safeguard's built into Bishop, or he was suffering a catastrophic malfunction. If everything after Alien is not being taken into account then I am very curious to see Ash's predecessors aboard the Prometheus. If they represent an even earlier model, what might they be like?

I'm sure there have been some movies in recent history that have had two versions shown in the Cinema. One before 'the water shed' (e.g. the PG-13) and one after (e.g. the 18) so audiences can choose which one to go and watch. Obviously, this would mean submitting two cuts to the BBFC and then there's the issue of whether we'd get the 'nastier' (to coin Ridley Scott's own description) version released on DVD and Bluray in the UK afterwards!
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumPrometheus Rating !Sep 8, 2011
I'll admit that I'm also concerned. This movie should not be offered next to Transformers 4 and other PULP which is directed at a more Mainstream audience heading out to the local movieplex. The Franchise has been mishandled numerous times already and for Ridley to put the proper spin on it, he should have the artistic freedom to follow those directions that originally made Alien one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of all time.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumPrometheus Rating !Sep 8, 2011
The bottom line is that the studios will have the say. Its business, and a PG-13 will in theory make more cash. That's what the studios want. Its not a criticism; I understand they're in it for the money, but it might put the restrains on Prometheus.
I can't imagine it working as a PG-13, I just can't. Not with all the story elements that have been rumoured on this site. It'll need to be an R-rated movie if Ridley really wants to "Scare the living **** out of us".
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumPrometheus Rating !Sep 8, 2011
Mentos, I totally agree with you. The studio like the COMPANY has the final say as they are the ones holding the ATM card. Their interests lie in profit, and not critical acclaim, or praise. I am just hoping that they will understand that watered down thrills are just not going to satisfy the fans of the original Alien.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumPrometheus Rating !Sep 8, 2011
It is unfortunate, but we can only hope.
There may be a SMALL chance that we get the R-rated.
If we look back to Inception: Inception was Christopher Nolan's personal project. Apparently the studios pretty much left him alone as they knew he'd be back to make the Dark Knight Rises and bring in the 'Big Bucks'.
In the past, Ridley has brought in good business with his other films like Robin Hood (which made double its budget).
We can only hope they leave him to it!
ReplyCarterJPrometheus Forum"Why don't you just freeze him!"Sep 7, 2011
I think if they did freeze Cain then Ash would have completed his mission on bringing the xenomorph back to the company alive and well (more than likely). Because he didn't agree to it leans toward the fact that he/the company didn't know what it was they were dealing with. So maybe if the company is involved with Prometheus then it certainly doesn't uncover this part of the alien life cycle.
Reply RuhaniyaPrometheus Forum"Why don't you just freeze him!"Sep 7, 2011
That's supposed to be in the future, our shit is now pretty goods so I would say our future shit might be even better? ! just a little slower if Prometheus is before the Nostromo? Then if their time traveling um.....we'll have to talk about the bonus situation that we just snorked!
ReplyGuestPrometheus Forum"Why don't you just freeze him!"Sep 6, 2011
Lol yeah that would have saved them a lot of trouble and lives. Can't remember specifically why they don't freeze him but I remember it being said. I'll have to watch it again. How come no one listened? I think Ash could have known something, but maybe not the specifics... otherwise he might have just frozen Cain to get a sample back to the company.
Similarly they should have listened to Ripley about quarantine procedures. But Ash makes the call to let the others and Cain back in the ship and Ripley has to listen after first warning that Cain could be infected, and that Ash is breaching protocol. Why would an android, who may/may not follow strict programming choose to not follow protocol? Seems like he really wanted Cain, or the hugger to get back on the ship. And Ash seems to be made to be very suspicious from the first time we see him onwards(possibly just the android clues they were dropping); so I've always kind of been in the camp that thinks the company knew something about the alien.
I agree with you about the scene where they're eating. He keeps glancing over. Clearly at Cain, but we still don't know if it's just to keep checking if he's alright after the attack or if he's waiting for a burster. Maybe Ash was starting to worry about the alien being worse than they imagined at this point. It does seem suspicious, though. It's like he's waiting for something to happen. And it could be that he knows that the chestburster will come out when you eat, I've always considered that. There's a lot of suspicious things about him, like his whole just transferring to the Nostromo prior to them being rerouted to the signal. Even the "malfunction" where he attacks Ripley could have been part of the programming to ensure it would retrieve the specimen. However, I don't think he/the company knew all the specifics of the alien lifeform because of how much he begins to admire it-- only after he has the chance to study it. And at times when he's not seeming suspicious we see him begin to switch to worshipping the thing and remarking on the toughness of what the facehugger's epidermis or whatever was made of, and then later on the adaptability of it and how it's the perfect organism and they don't stand a chance.
I think at this point Ash knew he wouldn't have been able to retrieve it for the company anyway. Maybe before he believed he could overcome Ripley and then capture it or freeze the infected crew. And when he tells them there chances aren't good, at the same time as practically worshiping the thing he's admitting that he might have been defeated by it too. I mean for sure we know the company wanted the alien at some point, we just don't know if it's because Ash/Mother was somehow sending transmissions back or not, and when exactly they received the order. It's one of the ambiguities about Alien that I love because it could have easily been stated in a sequel/prequel that Ash really was programmed/serving the company the whole time. And it could just as easily be the other way. But I firmly believe they wanted people to question if the company had some knowledge beforehand.
I really don't think Prometheus will answer those questions directly but it may allude to how they would have known about Jockey ships/signals. Or they might gain secondhand knowledge of an encounter with the Aliens/Jockies somehow, somewhere other than LV426, and not know how serious the threat had been.
I think if this does well Ridley will go all-out with the direct connections in a sequel. Remember when this was still just known as the alien prequel? It was being planned to be two movies. Don't believe all the misdirection, the story really hasn't changed that much after the rewrites, or fine tuning the two writers did to Ridley's original story. Lindelof says he really didn't change much, and moved the context to the subtext or something like that. That to me means that maybe the Aliens got pushed even further into the background, with Jockies and all the metaphysical, world-building stuff at the forefront in this latest form of the story. As that's what Spaights did with his script too(the real one not the fake Harvest one in his name). The first alien prequel movie was going to not be a direct sequel, that was gonna be part two. So the way I see it all the talk about it not being an Alien film is spot on for what would have been the first prequel. I think this is all a genius tactic thought up by Ridley/Lindelof to market it as a new sci fi/Jockey movie, but surprise the audience with the aliens playing a somewhat larger role than what we're expecting now. While at the same time by also delivering an excellent movie, with a broader story, that reinvigorates the whole franchise.
I honestly think they realize it will sell better with the mystery around it and by not directly stating that it's an Alien movie. They get all the money from people like me who will see it just to see any Alien connection. And the members of the general audience, and even disheartened Alien fans who may have skipped another alien movie after AVP, will also be intrigued by this movie if they think it is about Jockies or something unrelated to Alien entirely. Ridley directing it just seals the deal, because many will come out to see his new sci-fi movie even if they haven't been following all the news religiously.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the Xenomorphs don't even exist in at the start of Prometheus. I think the crew will become part of a horrific experiment, and then the rest explains itself.
It'll be interesting to see.
In i09.com's write up of the comic-con footage, the screen shot with the flamethrower in action actually shows a Xenomorph being burned alive. Whether this was a crew member or not we can't be sure.
I think if the crew become the Xenomorphs, this'll be more original that just the classic: the crew running from a band of Xenomorphs. We've seen that before tbh and I'd personally like to see it re-done in more of an original manner.

2nd question...How old are you...cause in my lifetime i rarely bump into people who behave as stupid as you are behaving and when I do I can put them in their place faster than they can say "JACK SHIT" on web site in some pathetic attempt to enhance their own diseased ego.
I am old enough to have seen the original film when I was already an adult.
I do not take kindly to people taking personal shots at me on a web site designed for comments about a film.
As for "Brownie Points" I have no clue what k you are talking about.

for over 25 years my father was in Charge of Irwin Toys...They purchased the rights to the first Alien Doll as it was in development and I was given that original prototype which I still have today at a ceremony before the release of the first film.
I can also assure you that the still picture I saw was from the current film and it's main subject was in fact a different looking Alien
As for the Spaiths Script. I have said many times here already that in many threads since you made your original nasty and rude comments to me for some unknown reason that it may or may not be real, but either was I really do not care, many of it's ideas as Ridley Scott has explained many times have been incorporated into this film already and you really have NO CLUE you are talking about AND YOU ARE THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO LET IT GO.
Furthermore I am not a troll that much is for sure however you have just proven YOU ARE ONE, had you read any of the threads completely and properly you would have known this, but you do not because you are person of ill intent that came in here...no...100% came in here to start troubles for as many people as you can and I will not play your childish game with you...so like i said, consider yourself warned, your way way way out of line man...way way out of line and EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I AM TAKING THE HIGH ROAD RIGHT NOW...BUT DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND STAY OUT OF ANY THREADS I AM IN FOR THE REST OF THE TIME....TRUST ME...JUST STAY OUT....I'M NOT GOING TO PLAY THIS GAME WITH YOU EVER AGAIN.
If you have a personal problem with any of my posts I suggest you GROW UP and FOLLOW THE RULES & take it up with me in a private message or with one of the moderators...but if you attempt to provoke me again I hope you are at least intelligent enough to understand that it is not going to lead to anything good for you.

He is the "Troll", I have no clue who he even is, and have since I started coming in here this is ALL this guy has done, come into my threads and attempt to poison them with his venom and hate and childish rants about stuff he's almost always wrong about.
I have seen this so many times and the best way to deal is just report.
Once that's done and he's dealt with properly I will be happy to post the pic< ill even scan the DOLL...and show you THAT to.
But I came in here with the best of intentions praying there wouldn't be any of this kind of stupid childishness and that I might be able to be part of some intelligent discussions about this film, instead I have had to deal with the mindless ranting of a seriously diseased ego....with it's facts wrong.
Like I said, better to just report it and move on.

some kind of giant telepathic "elphantile-like" massive creature was the way they described the so called "growers" in the so called "phony" Spaiths script.
that being said...
I think of the space jockey as one of the growers.
that covers the outside for me.
the inside i leave open to how Ridley determines to address that for everyone...cause I do think we're going to find out 100%.
my guess about what happened to the original Face-Hugger that got into the "Prometheus" I guess their going to call it {if they intend on referring to the ship with that name}, and impregnated that Space Jockey...
...it like many many others I imagine as they first arrived swarmed that entire cavernous area of LV426 and cleaned it out of every living thing down there, if there even was any, which allowed a queen to lay all "dem" eggs that KANE first so deliberatley encountered bringing us all here to this point 35 years later.
that Face-Hugger is really incidental to the story/timeline now but I think you could make a whole side movie spin off...lmao...about that particular Xenomorph's life.
imagine the possibilities...lol.

Hey did anyone know that the Frankenstein novel is subtitled The Modern Prometheus?
The similarities may not end there. Could Scott be paying a bit of homage to Marry Shelly's Frankenstein, after all some consider it the very first work of science fiction.
Perhaps the following description from Wikipedia would also fit Prometheus:
"Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel about a failed artificial life experiment that has produced a monster." - Frankenstein - Wikipedia

Just My opinion.
And if I am wrong that's great too cause he could probably come up with something even better as a lot of people out there suggested.
Either way like I said, for me, this is the most exciting thing to happen in film in the last 25 years at least and I bet the first TV add campaign we see is astounding just like that first shot of the egg in the harrowing first lead in to the franchise we all witnessed some 35 years ago.
