I think this will just have to go down as an error on Ridleys part. if he hadn't confirmed it to be davids body and just said nothing then it could have left the door open for another twist as it could have turned out that walter joined him and their acting together. but going with the confirmation its davids body just doesn't make an sense at all.
How many Hadley's hope kids did Cameron kill in Aliens?
ali81 Out of the Shadows / Sea of Sorrows / River of Pain were great books!!
Sea of Sorrows would make a great movie!
also I cant remember the name of the book but theres a brilliant scene in one where the humans set a trap for the xenos and when they try to get the xenos to fall into it they don't take the bait as they don't sense any fear in the humans. great insight into the creature that we don't get in the movies.
cmon, requiem was waaaaay worse than avp lol.
river of pain is my favourite novel followed closely by sea of sorrows. either of these would be amazing to see on the big screen
bigdave, when I say that I think the xeno is done I mean that in the the sense of it being the focal point of the movie. just as the david character could be in danger of being worn out as the only focal point in the prequel series, I think the weight should be spread more. the series NEEDS the engineers to come into the frame big time. they need to take a chunk of the focus off david. sure have xenos and different versions of it but for me, I wanted to follow shaws journey for answers. Cameron may be right in the fact that maybe spending so much time and energy on a character then just binning them has had a negative effect. shaws character was different to what came before. many didn't like her n I don't think she was the greatest but she gave us something different other than just survival in the franchise. by all means I think that her death to advance davids works was a must, but I think she should have seen through the second movie before we see her showing signs of anything sinister happening to her and then we could have seen an on screen 'hand over' if u like, between shaw and daniels.
people are fickle things and most of the time either don't know what they want or think they want one thing when in actuality, something else would have been better. I think this is the case with Prometheus and AC. I was like many. outraged that we wernt going to get the alien style prequel we had been told we were getting. then I watched Prometheus n thought 'u know what, hes right. I want to know whoo that big guy in the chair was and why those eggs were there. what happened?'. Prometheus opened the door to vast possibilities for the sequel to go on and explore a deeper alien universe. I couldn't wait for AC. don't think iv ever been so pumped for a film EVER. then bang, RS bows to the masses and we get a f****g alien film. that's what I mean when I say I think the xeno is done as the focal point of the franchise. I don't have a problem with davids character or his motives. by all means let him tamper with what the engineers have already done but for me, too much is focused on david.
we got engineers in the trailers and I thought 'yes here we go' n it turns out that what we see in the trailers is pretty much the screen time they get. I wouldn't have minded if the film itself was a well done movie but, imo, its not. I love RS and every film hes made has been visually stunning, even AC looks great. but there is no structured pace to the film and no character building. they released the prologues just to cut down on screen time set for building up the characters imo. too many things just logically don't make sense (see david/walter identity swap) and though people are fickle at times their not stupid.
AC has bombed and quite rightly. its great that some do like or love the movie, I so want to like it but I just don't. its a badly done film and id say Ridleys worst behind the camera. im looking forward to awakening though. 2 films left and time running out to see the origins of all this so it has to start to be addressed in the next instalment or ridley wont have enough time to do the engineers and the whole reason he got back into the franchise in the first place any justice. its amazing but a credit to the man that a film nearly 40 year old is still held in such high regard. but he needs to tie the prequel series into alien in a way that does that film justice aswell. expecting nothing but hoping for the best
Clemen's (Charles Dance) character to me sums up the entire Alienverse. Broken, deeply flawed but still kicking on, best he can (or could).
I reckon they should do the Earth Hive/Asylum/Female War trilogy as a tv series.
Let the movies do the big cinematic space adventures on distant world, whist a tv series follows the destruction of Earth.
Ati i like your choices and I've never heard of Röyksopp. so thank you :)
I'm glad the topic is still super fresh.
Heck, it could be Woody Allen as long as Ridley Scott has nothing to do with future ALIEN films ever again.
I kind of doubt Waterson, McBride, and Fassbender are eager to work Scott again for the Covenant sequel; maybe low morale due to its ho-hum performance?
I love A:C but i agree with Cameron, what they do with Shaw's character is not fair i would have rather a open ending for her to get is spot later in the next movies, what they do was just to please the Phometheus "haters" but them is the same problems. With Prometheus the fans wanna see they alien but they get a enginners story and a lot of fans get mad, and now the most wants to see the following story in shaws travel and enginners , and they get an alien movie.
Maybe if A:C would have relese in 2011 the fans would have like it, but we never could know it.
"Fairly integral is where this colonisation ship is going"
This remark, like the remark Ridley made in a video IV "that the Deacon is the forerunner of the Alien" made in 2015 or that Shaw is in Covenant "in away" are worth remembering. Where the colony ship is going is significant to the story.
David made it clear to Walter with some very direct and impassioned language that he is going to stop mankinds colonisation plans. What would add another layer to the story and bring it round full circle and back in, is if mankind are intruding on a planet which is part of the Engineers seeding cycle where the planets inhabitants are under going an "Awakening". This would also make sense of the 'War of The Worlds" remarks different worlds clashing.
For the Engineers to return into this unauthorised colonisation with the consequence of Sir Peter Weyland's disastrous mission leading to the catastrophe of Paradise out of which the events of the space jockey's story emerges would make for the kind of epic story making that Ridley refers to when suggesting the Alien can exist in a much bigger world view.
We shall see.
IRaptus, Alien 3 is almost equal in quality to the original alien in my opinion. so underrated.
i really dont know what trollers think they are going to accomplish.
also, what do you think the appropriate tone for the film would be? philosophical like covenant and prometheous or more of just a strait horror movie? mine has a bit of philisophical stuff with david but he dies 2/3 of the way into the movie. horror is going to be the main point of mine.
Alrighty. Thanks for the input.
Um AVP (2004) was the worse than requiem. At least requiem tried to be faithful to the source material but fucked up on the story, AVP (2004) shitted on source material and raped the story.
@sherris - Yeah, most people can't hear that over the voices of their own commentary.
there was no way of knowing that there would be alien spores on the planet. its just that sinse there were, people judge it as stupid. if they had not gotten infected nobody would be complaining.
Cameron didn't destroy Jonesy. He was the lucky one and got to live on earth, xenomorph-free.
I agree with him, it really was a great ride! (Speaking of which, how cool would it be if they made a ride based on Covenant!?)
Great topic! I have so many!
From Enigma - The Fall of a Rebel Angel (2017):
Enigma - Amen:
Wow! This looks amazing! This is going to be a lot of fun to play! You're very talented!
Yes! The explosion, the neomorph and the Lope facehugger scene would be perfect for the intense part of the song as well!
Man, I can really picture this video in my head now. Picturing Walter wandering alone on the empty paradise at the very end literally gave me chills.
I really wish we had some footage like that! I would definitely want to use them in my Walter Hallelujah video. Maybe someone with technical knowledge could splice something together from existing scenes.
You know, while we're at it, there really should be a video using "Country Roads"! I'm not sure we'd have enough footage of Shaw to make her the focus, but the entire crew of the Covenant was probably pretty homesick, so we could use it for a video about any of them.
Phobos - an Alien Covenant Story is available on the Blu-ray (August 15th).

BigDave - 'Shea is usually a Boys name but then sometimes a Girl can be called Shea...'
In that name O'Shea is the surname and Geeves is the first name. You can visit her instagram page, in one of the photos you can see her (with a dog) as well:

And Björn is a male first name, no doubt. :)
Awesome! When my funds are sufficient (probably early next month), I will visit the patreon link!
Oh daaaamn James Wan would be CRAZY AWESOME!! I don't imagine it actually happening, but that would be pretty cool to see his crack at an Alien film.
Going off of recent films, Trey Edward Shultz showed how much tension he can translate from script to film in, "It Comes At Night." We will never (and should never) recieve a film necessarily like Alien, but someone who really wants to go for the phsycological, really tense horror could still make something interesting and different in the Alien franchise.
Would be pretty cool to see David Fincher come back and have a true chance to direct an Alien film in his vision.
Maybe I will come back once I have looked back at some of my favorite movies (or just ones I have seen). I have said before in some other topic that I don't usually pay attention to director specifically! I usually know who directs what I am seeing, but I forget about them after a little while.
Timmy the ultramorph thank you Danny Boyle YES! I reckon him too. Especially if he follows his Sunshine style visuals and his usual gritty near-nihilistic style writing.
It would definitely be a little different to the Scott/Cameron experiences, more like Finchers Alien 3....hopefully without the troubled production
BigDave Yes, that's pretty much the situation. I would add something that I think is important. There is a trend lately with horror movies specially, where the sequel is actually much better than the first film. This is possible because they they get a better script with a totally different spin on the story, a different director, different actors. So, a good idea could be to make a smaller movie that aims for that kind of universally praised status that would help renew the confidence in the franchise, and maybe add some new converts. Even if the movie makes less money than the first, it is an investment in the future. Another strategy could be making a movie like "10 Cloverfield Lane", which does not directly seem to connect with the first movie, but takes place in the same universe. If the movie is good, the audience would appreciate it for what it is.
wow! This looks amazing! good job
there is this one shot in alien covenant that i coudn't find online but it was when the xenomorph jumped on the guy right after the face hugger got on him and his face was burning. the xenomorph just jumps down and kills him. it looks awsome.
looks awesome.
Beautiful! I'll feature this so it doesn't get buried. x
I definitely don't want James Cameron back! Aliens was such a mistake...
" I don’t like films where you invest in a character and they get destroyed at the end"
Cameron, you destroyed Jonesy in ALIENS.
I thought that was just because it was a worm but I guess you are right.
in A:C mu TH UR is telling them the atmosphere and air is ok. you can hear on the lander before embarking.
Prometheus - David and * backs up the point by saying "cleaner than earth actually"
Removing mask is fine get over it
