Yeah...There are 2 scenes in Alien where I have to turn my head, or it ruins my watching! (Kane's chestburst scene and Ash's headless scene)
If I was George Lucas, I'd redo/CGI them! lol!
or terminator 2 judgment day?
"It’s not a film that I would have made. I don’t like films where you invest in a character and they get destroyed at the end. I would not have made that film."
Does he not remember making Titanic???? JAAAAACCKKKKK!!!!!
Maybe 37WYS is his run number? He's number 37 off the production line?
This Walter model may be a Peter Weyland updated, altered version of David!
The trouble is, Weyland was long dead before Walter was a glint in the WY corporate eye...
And, as many others have said, he would have been able to heal if it was Walter's body.
It was a fan edit that had all the deleted and extended scenes put back in. Essentially the same material you got on the Blu Ray, but put all in on. It was on YouTube, though I've no idea if it still is...
Well ..Who did make A:C? The writers? Fox?
Aliens isn't a movie I would have made...Nor Alien3...or Alien:R or probably Prometheus...Or A:C....
Exactly. I've mentioned this exact thing before, people would go nuts if Alien was released today, with all the stupid stuff the crew did. Like Gavin says, it's a rose tinted spectacles type thing.
It's called rose tinted spectacles...
Some have said that there is no conspiracy in Alien; that the Nostromo just happened to pick up the signal and ash, special order 937 and being bound by contract to investigate signs of intelligent life were just elements in place should a ship happen across a signal.
Yet, the Nostromo left Earth to go to Thedus, picked up the four-tower refinery, and was en-route home to Earth when it picked up the signal. Surely the Nostromo used the same flight path there and back, so why didn't it pick up the signal on its way to Thedus?
or...
Dallas should never have gone on the expedition to the derelict and should not have gone into the ducts; he was the Captain, and his responsibility is to command the crew and to the ship. Lambert also should not have gone on the expedition, she was the only one qualified to fly the Nostromo.
or...
In the space Jockey scene fans infer the SJ to be around 25 feet tall in the opening shot, and around 12 feet in the subsequent shots. Some fans have argued the Engineers should have been 25 feet tall. The average person (rounding up) is six feet, thus these fans wanted an engineer four times taller than the cast.
or...
Why didn't MU-TH-UR just wake up Ash? He and MU-TH-UR could have piloted the Nostromo to the moons surface, pick up as many eggs as he wanted, and return the Nostromo; using the crew as hosts.
or...
The Nostromo, under a commercial contract with Weyland-Yutani was allowed to leave Earth with a crew of 7 and only one Narcissus shuttle with only one hypersleep pod.
or...
That Ridley originally intended for the Alien to kill Ripley, and mimic her voice in a signal back to Earth.
or...
In Alien the Alien cocoons Brett and Dallas, and kills Parker and Lambert hides on Narcissus to die. Yet in Aliens they outflank the marines, turn off the power, set up an ambush, communicates with their Queen, who then operates an elevator. Yet Ridley-fans claim Cameron dumbed the creature down.
or...
After failing to acquire the Alien in 2122, Weyland-Yutani waited until around 2159 AKA 37 years before setting up a colony there.
or...
According to Alien LV-426 is tiny, with a radius of 1,200km, which is smaller than our moon. Yet despite being there for twenty years with the means to traverse the surface the colonists never happened across the Derelict.
There are lots of dumb things the characters do in ALL the movies. I get your point, but I think you need to check your facts a bit. Such as -
Alien:
dallas breaks quarantine to let kane in with a face hugger on him.
Wrong. Dallas did not break the quarantine, Ash did. And he had a very good reason to do so.
dallas and ash wear no protective headgear while doing an autopsy of an alien corpse.
Wrong. Dallas and Ash both wore protective face masks, and Dallas did not take his off until Ash told him it was safe to do so.
when they go into the room were kane is and the face hugger is gone they leave the doar open so if it were still alive, it could escape onto the ship.
Wrong. Watch again. They close the door.
when kane just suddenly feels better after the facehugging they dont do any phisical examination.
How do you know that? Ash was with him when he woke up, and we did not see that scene. Ash called the Dallas in after that. Plus, even if we had seen Ash exam Kane, he would have LIED to the crew about it, for obvious reasons.
they all risk there lifes time and time again to to catch jonsey the cat.
The chest burster was smaller than the cat. When they were searching for Jones they had no idea it had gown larger than human size in a matter of hours, so why would they think their lives were in danger?
@Timeteh - "Moreover to think that Rambo, especially the first one, is a mindless action movie is to fail to understand what this movie is really about."
No, I am talking about the second movie called Rambo. The original movie was called First Blood, and is actually not a bad film. The mindless sequel was called RAMBO: First Blood part II. Written by this guy named James Cameron, with some politics added by Stallone. Cameron wrote Aliens and Rambo simultaneously...and it shows.
yeah. that also. they did it cuz sigorny weaver was pro gun control and didn't want any weapons in the film.
The whole concept of a prison colony without ANY real weapons whatsoever is pretty dumb to me.
I actually don't believe in ratings except when I'm looking for a restaurant or a hotel. I never voted on imdb or google. I don't go for blockbusters with a high ratings.
I would never have watched the trailer from "honest reviews" if the link was not posted here. As Starlogger said, I have better ways to spend my time.
And when I don't like a movie I stop watching it, usually not waiting till the end. I don't watch movies to write reviews and I am generally not interested in bad reviews.
Why we get so many bad reviews here?
Will help to get a better future film?
I seriously doubt that.
@starlogger, that is your opinion. In the same way i can say that Alien is a boring, slow movie not scary at all. At least it was not scary when i saw it and i was just 14 !
Prometheus didn't need to be a prequel of Alien but its own stuff in the Alien universe.
Prometheus and its following didn't need to lead to the first Alien movie but could have just focused on the Engineers, their culture, their ways and their tie to the xenomorph.
In fact i would have prefered that Prometheus was closer to a story like in the mountain of madness from lovecraft or forbiden planet ! About an ancient race which try to play gods and gets wiped out by their creation which happen to still haunt the remaining of their civilisation.
This said, Ridley should have kept to his initial vision and not try to give people f..king Aliens as those so called Aliens are one of the main problem with Covenant !
At this point the best Ridley can do is close the circle with a last movie by finishing the David arc and stop making Alien movie or i fear that he will kill the franchise once and for all.
Regarding the xenomorph, i think that it is not cooked. The only thing which is cooked is the aspect of its lifecycle which has been rehashed since the first movie: Egg-> Facehugger-> chestbuster-> Xenomorph. This is boring and doesn't bring nothing new to the franchise. At least the movies Aliens and Alien 3 try to bring something new.
I think that a new Alien movie should make the economy of facehugging and chestbursting and try to focus on some aspect of xenomorph never seen before while still being consistent with the universe.
I would personnaly like to see:
* A single xenomorph either sentient or which did evolve to something way more sinister, smart and dangerous. As the Xenomorph is an alien creature, an inovative writer can develop other aspects of the Xenomorph never seen in a movie. Evolution toward sentience and/or continuous morphing to become more dangerous and adapted to its environment at each iteration would be amazing. How some human capable and SMART face such a foe ? Do they get wiped out or do they manage to make it run for its money ?
* A massive/overwhelming hive of xenomorph fighting mankind in all about war and winning despite man technology. Some exotic types of xenomorph could be introduced resulting from mutations/evolutions achieved in order to fight against marines weapon
Big Dave I hear you on Fox and Scott trying to please everyone. The main gripe everybody under the sun had with Prometheus was the ridiculous actions that Ridley absolutely FORCED into the picture: giant rolling horseshoe escape, map guy gets lost, unbelievable actions. Scott then doubles down with atrocious character dialogue and unbelievable actions. I really like Covenant but my passion becomes fire when Ridley mocks religion and treats us as fools with this pretentious dumpster fire of colonial chimps in Alien-EasterEgg. His sole focus was David and that's an unforgivable sin. Alien series foundation is built on great dialogue between HUMANS. See A1-3 for great conversation not a bunch of ridiculous side remarks- "this isn't a Weylend ship" "you should do yoga" "so much here doesn't make sense". Criticism should inspire a better effort next time. Don't think anybody is pushing for Blomkamp, it's a push for anybody but at the very least, Ridley come off his holy throne and make a coherent set of characters.
^By that lazy categorization I guess you'd also agree Alien is just Halloween in space.
Michelle Johnston- I love how your mind works. i casually thrown Origae 6 into an either inhabitated world needing work or was a planet strictly and directly involved with the species currently in the equation. i never gave much thought or planning to who could "logically" be there.
Indeed a human or humanoid seeded world by use of the Catalyser. Now that makes for an interesting visit. What if the star they surround is an old sequence star older than ours? Maybe that means a civilisation older than us but perhaps less advanced than us ? how are their visits going ? Has "fire" been given as a gift yet? All that exciting information from just a quick few second storm. This universe opens up with the greatest of ease when substance is added ????
Aliens is most definitely a mindless action movie, blatantly using the "Aliens" as the bait to get people to come see another war/action/killing things movie.
@BigDave I think you summed up the whole Fox perspective near perfectly in that last post.
@Kethol, Aliens was scary for someone who had never seen Alien. Once you get used to one movie of the franchise up to the 3, the other are not scary anymore. However Alien Covenant is not scary even for someone who has never seen a movie of the franchise.
And no Aliens is not another mindless action movie (i guess that you are comparing it to Rambo II), it is more than that. It is the proud successor of Alien which managed to be not a copy of the first one while keeping some of the same DNA. Cameron did a great, not perfect as even the first one is not perfect, job with this movie. He brought new concepts(the hive, the queen,etc...) to the franchise and did one of the thing it does best in its movie, bash the military. This is why they looked so dumb initially. However he still managed to have great marines characters such as Hudson, Vasquez, Hicks and even Gordman. I wish there were such great characters in either Prometheus or covenant.
Moreover to think that Rambo, especially the first one, is a mindless action movie is to fail to understand what this movie is really about. Rambo I is one of the most anti-war movie ever made. It is a very sensitive and quite tragic movie. Just carefully watch and listen the scene with both Rambo and his colonel at the end.
@ Capt Torgo
Agreed.
I feel you'r pain, I loved the direction "Prometheus" was going.
It's sad how "Covenant" turned out :(
The individual particles of the pathogen would be created 'programmed' for specific genetic tasks. I think the liquid is just a sustainer to store the particles in.
In David's translation of the engineer Weapon Storage manual on the Prometheus Blu Ray it says something like "this will ensure the agents ability to retain infectivity and virulence after prolonged periods of storage".
@drucea I think the other stuff is what @kethol touched on, it will be the building blocks e.g proteins and a few other things.
Until we get more info that is part or the lore we probably wont know.
lets hope we will :)
"I don't see any method at all"- Cameron. The ingredients were there but Ridley has just lost the plot and unlike Cameron I won't support Ridley any further. That honest trailer actually nailed down how stupid the characters' narrative was. Pretty cinematography won't carry the day anymore.
Anything is Ten times better than "covenant" (except requiem)
;)
@Big Dave
I'm sure this has been covered or mentioned somewhere, but does the other liquid in the ampules/viles look like it could be what programs the goo once it is mixed? If the goo is nano sized AI, the other liquid could have imbedded "programming" that allows the viles to be used as weapons once mixed.
@ Chad Ripley
They almost did, but FOX replaced their movie with AVP :(
@Alexber127 - with my history in modding with unreal engine I can tell that what you have created so far for Redemptions is very early in development and so any judgment would be premature, but it does look a lot like a recreation of Isolation rather than an evolution.
@IIapagokc - despite your claims that Hope for the Future is also early in development much more progress seems to have been made, especially considering it's a solo man job. You obviously have a very clear idea as to what direction you want to take the project.
If either of you want to discuss your projects more in depth message me here and maybe I could help in some way.
P.S. My Gaming Blog is now being hosted on Scified, be sure to check out the updated link in my signature and Scifieds homepage for articles and proposals on videogames, some of which feature everyones favorite alien.
I wish they would team up or something. They both made the best two movies in the franchise and I think they could create an amazing Alien movie together because they would balance each other out. I know it will never happen but one can dream.
@S1m0n - "the black goo is some sort of nano AI or possibly is a nano AI which seems to go with what risley is trying to put forward in his franchise."
Let's break down exactly what David said in the Advent video - "This primordial ooze, ripe with advanced nano particles, operating off on an algorithm based on evolutionary computing. It is essentially a form of radical A.I., making the substance unbelievably chaotic. It generates a unique reaction to every genome it encounters. Reshaping life. "
This sounds to me like the writers are finally trying to weave a little bit of biomemchanical flair into the description of the pathogen. However, that does not mean cheesy, tiny little metal nanobots running around inside the hosts building aliens, which seems to be what some people think when they see the word 'nano'.
A 'nanoparticle' is just a small, single particle that behaves as a whole unit. In in this application, it is comparable to a single particle that is part of a collective hive intelligence. In genome editing and gene recombination, nano sized particles can be used with high efficiency to deliver protein packages across cell wall barriers and targeted to specific areas of specific cells that require genome editing. This is simply David being a little more specific than just saying 'the pathogen rewrites the host DNA', which is what he said in the movie.
David calls the black goo 'primordial ooze'. That is a substance made up of organic compounds and amino acids that form protein structures - in other words, it contains the building blocks of life.
The "A.I." David refers to is tied to the 'evolutionary computing' term he also says. Evolutionary computing is a computer science term that is used in the field of Artificial Intelligence, but in this artificially created biotechnology application (or biomechanical) it means algorithms based on biological evolution are used to predictively organize amino acid sequences and protein structures in an intelligent manner. Again, this is just more detail on how the pathogen is radically rewriting the host DNA for a purpose.
Evolutionary computing algorithms rely on real biologically inspired genetic operations, like selection, mutation, and crossover. Crossover is taking parent chromosomes from more than one parent and producing an offspring combining features of those parent chromosomes. That is exactly what the pathogen does when the parasite takes on characteristics of the host from its DNA, such as the "dog" version of the Alien seen in Alien 3, which walked on all-four legs, instead of upright like the human born version. Or the ultramorph (Deacon) in Prometheus, which had genetic information from Holloway's mutation, Shaw's DNA, and Engineer DNA.
"Entering the host and rewriting the DNA, the pathogen produced mature offspring who's appearance and characteristics are wholly dependent upon the nature of the host itself. The progeny of a parasitized insect for example, will look very different from a creature that issues from a quadruped host. The ultimate aim, as I gather it, was to produce something like these enviable unions. My beautiful bestiary." - David from the ADF novelization.
"You know, I'm only recently learning about this personality type that devotes copious amounts of time to a thing they despise, yet it seems surprisingly prevalent."
Quite a salient point there, vivisected...on the nose.
79% on google reviews, ~70% on Rotten Tomatoes, 6.6/10 on imdb, 65 from metacritic, RISING in popularity according to IMDB as well...
NOT the marks of a "bad" movie at all. Quit believing the anti-hype.
Also, i had never heard of "honest reviews" EVER before this week, and I never intend to ever listen to them again. They're really overrated and snarky and unenjoyable quite frankly. I have much better ways to spend my time.
@IIapagokc
Looking Good.... maybe it can stay in here?
Or maybe you can start your own thread with links and a Synopsis... i really applaud your Effort
@joylitt
I am not so sure about Alien R and AVP... but i agree those movies did add some WTF moments that people just felt was odd and also contradicting what fans expect as Canon.
And so indeed i agree Prometheus to a degree was similar in how it covered some things that some Fans just did not want to see... Space Jockey not being Alien and 15ft but Humanoids, who then created Mankind Blah Blah and then this Black Goo that never quite explained itself enough to those Fans as far as how it Created the Xenomorphs.
In Alien Covenant the similar kind of Curve-ball was now that David created the Xenomorph and also thus those Eggs on the Derelict can only be about 10 years or so old.
so yeah another direction, that displeased some Fans, and some fans again displeased the Prometheus connections and would rather Prometheus and David had not been involved at all.... and also while they was given Xenomorphs it was not enough Xenomorphs.
So FOX felt these kinds of Fans was who to please, and give them the Xenomorph... but it kind of Back Fired...
They also had those who liked Prometheus now disappointed...
So Yeah FOX are in a bit of a Predicament..
They tried to please ALIEN (Horror), ALIENS (Action) Fans but they did not give enough Horror or Action to please those fans, they gave us a movie that is now heading more to ALIEN and departed from the Engineers, Gods and Shaw etc.. Yet a number of Fans are still disappointed we have yet to get Straight Up Explanation to the Xenomorph Eggs on the Derelict... but we are heading there... only its now likely to be a Event 10 or less years before Alien and David created them... and this Curve-ball has ruffled as many Feathers than the "oh no the Space Jockey was a 7-8ft Bald Humanoid"
So in trying to please the Fans who wanted Xenomorphs, they have actually not done enough to please those who like Horror and Less is best of ALIEN and those who wanted the more Xenomorph Action like ALIENS
And then Curve-ball some of these Fans never liked... that 7-8ft Humanoids Create the Xenomorph with the Black Goo or the Black Goo came from Xenomorphs... is now REPLACED with the Robot from Prometheus Created the Xenomorph.
So indeed thats a Sticky Situation.... one that maybe pleasing the Fans would have to reveal that Actually the Xenomorph is Ancient, it was created or found by a more Taller Alien Race that created the Engineers and then chose to Punish Them with the Xenomorph but back fired... so their Creations (Engineers) stole their Technology and Re-Engineered the Xenomorph DNA etc.
This ^^^ is a route that maybe would please the General Fans... but they would still Face the Problem of do we go for a more ALIEN Flick or a ALIENS... Action or Horror... Queen or No Queen etc
And so even if they by-passed Prometheus fans and what they wanted... they would still not make a Movie that pleases every ALIEN and ALIENS Fan.
Right now they cant keep changing their minds, they cant then go and think OK lets take out the importance of the AI and David and Philosophical connections and brush them under the Carpet... because it would just discredit Prometheus and Alien Covenant.
If they Re-booted the Prequels... then RS would not have this as it would be like him having to Admit his Idea was a complete FLOP!
They have to Stick to RS Vision, they have to try and please Prometheus Fans but also give something to the ALIEN Fans.. And forget about the Popcorn Flick Fans.
Get this Prequel/Explanation to the Derelict done..
Then go and explore a Alien Franchise Sequel movie, that is more to do with ALIENS and Action... Hell maybe give then Ripley Back too.. and the Queen..
The Problem FOX have is if they go the route i have explained above and the next lets stick to plan but try and please ALIEN and Prometheus Fans movie.... if this movie disappoints as much as Alien Covenant or more so...
Then FOX may not be willing to risk doing any more Alien movies, even ones to please the ALIENS fans...
Or they just make a Low Budget ALIENS kind of Flick that could really Suck...
So the other side of the coin, is if FOX Panic and think they have to forget Prometheus Fans, and cater for ALIEN Fans but more so ALIENS fans... and make a Popcorn Xenomorph and Queen Flick...
Very very hard Task...
They could try and please all by making TWO movies.. but they would have to separate them as One would Tread on the Toes to the Other. So one would have to be done 3 years before the other but have FOX got that $$$$ Commitment?
And if the first Flops a bit.. then its likely the 2nd would be Canceled.... and so a Prequel kind of Flick and a Aliens Sequel kind of Flick... can not happen... not Together.
Its do they Can the Prequels... and give Fans a kind of Blomkamp Fanboy Flick?
The Big Problem is i am willing to bet most Fans associate the Franchise with ALIENS and Queen, and Ripley than ALIEN never mind the Prequels
The General Public recognize Aliens more than Alien i was suppose... And i think if we Polled every single Alien Fan who has ever commented on sites like this and Youtube, and have ever purchased Alien Franchise Merchandise and Movies.
Sadly i think the higher % would want to see more things that ALIENS showed added rather than taken out... and i think its these Fanbase Demographic is why Alien Covenant became what it was instead of the direction Paglen/Greens draft was taking.
THE BOTTOM LINE.....
$$$$$$$ Fox will want to Make money and a Poorer Popcorn Flick that makes $$$$$$ may be more suited to them than a Thought Provoking Idea that makes much less $$$
Alien: Hope for the future - is the survival-horror project with elements of tactics. This is not a commercial , fan project, which is being developed by one man ,me.
Engine: Unity3d.
In the process of developing: 6 months.
The story is about doings which are taking place in "Hadly's Hope" colony , before and during xenomorph incident.
The game got nothing in common with the plot of the canonical book "River of Pain".

If we want to throw in google review scores
85% liked Alien vs Predator.
So just something to think about, when bringing up that particular rating system, so if we really want to bring that up, by its rankings the general audience preferred AVP.
This isn't a hit to me since I enjoy both movies to some degree, but I know that hits a lot of people.
