I suppose carpenters have to have some kind of engineering skills. But being blue? Surely someone would have mentioned that? LOL!

Seph7Alien: Covenant ForumMy Walter/David theory

"StonecoldET12 - ...Flashback during the Shaw grave scene again he quotes ozymandias and says something like" one could die after creating something so beautiful" I can't really remember the exact words but what if creating consciousness in Walter was his beautiful poem and thus he'd be ready to die if it awoken inside a.i."

I know not many will likely know this, but as an English Lit graduate, I was familiar with Shelley's poem. Ozymandias was actually a reference to Ramesses II, the longest reigning Pharaoh of Egypt. David quotes it almost as though he is elevating himself against the Gods. In destroying the Engineers, he is destroying humanity's Gods.

The inherent problem with David using this reference is, not only does he not remember who wrote it, thinking it was Byron instead of Shelley, he's also not understanding what the poem was about. He thinks it references destruction, when Ramesses actually did more for the Kingdom he ruled, building great temples and monuments, bringing prosperity to everyone within his Kingdom...

As I said, whilst many people might not know the significance of who Ramesses was, Pharaohs were considered Gods themselves. His endeavours were indeed Mighty...

Shelly was also paraphrasing the exact inscription - "King of Kings am I, Osymandias. If anyone would know how great I am and where I lie, let him surpass one of my works."

The full poem -

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

I'm one of your token Christians (probably a minority on this board) but I also happen to love craft beer, bourbon, smoking pipes, and awesome music and movies.  Hence my obsession with A L I E N, the Rolling Stones, and King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard.  Anyone who doesn't have a sense of humor about Jesus, and is a believer, is just too tightly wound.

@Seph7

Thank you!!! I'm hoping to see more of Walter in the next film too, to be honest with you :)

I don't plan on waking him up - sadly this was the only outcome I was able to envision for Walter, stranded on Planet 4 as he is. I am not good at writing happy endings.

However, if someone else would like to build off my story and write a continuation where Walter gets resuscitated, I would be A-OK with that. :)

@Ati

I will be sure and let you and Facehuggers! know my reaction American Psycho! I'm sure the novels are great but I'll have to settle for the movie version, as I'm obsessing pretty hard on Alien right now so I wont have the attention span for a non-Alien related book! :)

@dk and TheXenoneoprotomorph Thank you SOOO much! Glad you enjoyed it! :D

Also, dk: "Walter examines the Engineer and then rips its head off- that would be poetic justice!"

Lol, that is a really hilarious visual!

Seph7Alien: Covenant ForumMy Walter/David theory

"RZA -

What bothers me about all this is that while it may be David on board, is it really Davids body?

My first reason for why David would take Walters body is that for one, it was New and Improved complete with upgrades

I thought Walters mention that "I was designed to be attentive and more efficient than any previous model, I superseded them in every way but.." would obviously be appealing to David."

Knowing the kind of narcissist David is, I don't think he'd want to swap bodies with Walter, despite the upgrades. I think David still feels superior to him, despite the physical differences, so to him, it wouldn't be an upgrade, it would be a downgrade. David is unique, and I think he'd want to remain so, regardless of the logical advantage of a better body.

French alienAlien: Romulus 2 NewsAlien: Awakening - Ridley Scott confirms Engineers will return in Alien: Covenant sequel!

Hi, my name is Ben, i'm French, sorry a don't speak english, I use the translator.

I have my small idea of scenario, concerning what takes place between Prometheus and Covenant. And especially concerning the fate of Shaw which could be, something quite different without changing the weft of the history of Covenant. It is possible that during their journey (David and Shaw), taking place after prologue ( The crossing), during their trip, they could that one of the vessels mother of engineers (visible at the very beginning of Prometheus)Tie up(Accost) the juggernaut that experimental David and that the engineers land(turn up) to see what takes place and at the same time woken Shaw of the cryosleep and the removed of David's hands. Then he(it) is possible q the engineers try(tempt) of create a clone of Shaw for miscellaneous reason. David by love in verse Shaw tries to free(release) her(it) from the influence of the engineers, but gets back only the clone Of Shaw and made a success has to run away from the vessel mother. Then we arrive at the passage or David arrives on the planet of the false engineers) and sends his bombs(sprays) of black liquid on the inhabitants (Alien Covenant) by revenge Not to have to get back real Shaw. So when Walter discovers the body of Shaw have could imagined that is only the clone of Shaw of which David tried his experiences. In the end maybe That doctor Shaw is always alive in taken with the engineers and that we shall see again(revise) her(it) after. Here is my hypothesis.

I prefer to think Ridley is arguing the opposite, that there is no ubermensch and that the only true dominion is the dominion of the raw power of nature itself. The Engineers attempted to attain dominion over their 'technology', yet were destroyed by it. David attempted to attain dominion over the Engineers, and instead unleashed something he may not have control of (as the future-setting Alien films revolve entirely around). And, of course, Humanity attempted to maintain dominion over androids, and now they're running around killing people and preaching about the 'perfect organism'. Nature maintains the balance between itself and the technological, sometimes by quite destructive means and ends...

@Dr. Curt Connors that is a bit extreme. It isn't the universe that is the problem, but FOX.

By now everyone should have realized that Covenant is complete and utter garbage and there should be no more Alien movies. The underwhelming box office domestically should have put the nail in the coffin. The general public don't give a shit about this universe.

Every novel written by him is explicit.

The Rules of Attraction is about Bateman's brother, Sean.

American Psycho is a masterpiece; highly recommended.

The novel is also quite good, but very explicit!

One thing in particulate that I did enjoy about Covenant is that it was pretty balanced when it came to kills. A good amount of the characters that died were woman. None of that inane sexism that every other adventure/action movie has where if there are woman they will survive no matter what since their lives are worth more. Especially after seeing Kong I appreciated Covenant much more.

'I've never seen American Psycho, but I will put it on my to-watch list, because I suspect it would be my cup of tea!'

Ahh, works by Bret Easton Ellis... I wrote a thesis about his novels. His first four books have film adaptations: Less Than Zero, The Rules of Attraction, American Psycho, The Informers.

They are connected (more or less), so it's a good idea to start with the first one, I think.

I like the book The Informers very much, but the movie version should have been made... better.

XenosaurianAlien: Romulus 2 NewsFox to make Alien vs Predator movies canon?

This is ridiculous. The "AVP" and "AVPR" films were declared canonical the very moment they were released unto the big screen. Fox made these films part of the "Alien" and "Predator" canons 13 years ago, and it's only a matter of time before a third installment is materialized. The first two films merely bridged a gap in the Alien/Predator-timeline and laid a foundation for what would be destined to come.

///Yet accompanying the release of 2012's Prometheus, Sir Ridley Scott's long-awaited return to the Alien franchise, the promotional website Weyland Industries retconned the AvP movies from the canon by having Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce, pictured below) as the founder of Weyland Corp, as opposed to having AVP's Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) as the founder of Weyland Industries.///

This is blatant nonsense! There is literally NOTHING with that promotional website that would supposedly contradict or "ret-con" the "AVP"-timeline. Rather, it fits perfectly. Charles Bishop Weyland was the actual founder of Weyland Industries (from "AVP"), and by the time he met his unfortunate demise at the hands of a Predator in Antarctica, Peter Weyland (his son) was fourteen years old. Now, eight years after Weyland Industries being orphaned after having suffered the loss of their founder and CEO in 2004, Peter rejuvenated the company as Weyland Corporation in 2012 (note also how the promotional website even says "Weyland Industries").

It is also interesting to note how Charles Weyland and Peter Weyland both died in similar manners (at an older age to alien creatures in remote ancient structures). After all, after Charles' death, it would only make sense that another Weyland would take over in time, seeing how persistent that family is. Either way, to think that this somehow "removed" the AVP-films from the canonical timeline or that it would be somehow "contradictory" is absolute nonsense. There's a beautiful flow in the timeline between the films.

It should not surprise anyone (unless you actually bought the lie that AVP is no longer canonical) that Fox still treats AVP as officially canonical in various ways. Even if Fox never even hinted at AVP actually being canonical, it wouldn't do a thing to the fact that the AVP-films remains as canonical chapters in a larger cinematic universe. Really, the only thing that could be used to argue against the idea of AVP being canonical is merely personal preference. You are entitled to your own opinion of the actual quality of these films, definitely, but to attempt to enforce this opinion and personal decision upon others and speak of AVP as "non-canonical" would be wrong and deceptive.

Also, no reboot/remake of "AVP" is necessary, you just need to take the third film in a different direction that may be even more pleasing to the crowds. It's not even difficult to come up with various and better scenarios for another sequel, it just takes time, patience, respect and creativity (and maybe even a little bit of passion). Heck, if I had the means to produce an actual sequel I would (I even already got a script treatment produced that would take into account every single current installment in the Alien-, Predator- and AVP-films; I would have made the canonical status of AVP abundantly clear and thus silence people's rants about it).

Bottom line, Aliens and Predators ALREADY exists in the same fictional universe. It's done. The "debate" was pointless from the start.

One film I'd find really hard to watch again, however, is Martyrs. It has good production design but, my oh my, I don't think I could bear to see it a second time.
