hind sight is a wonderful thing but looking back, first trailer id have liked wouldv been a shot of the covenant in orbit over the planet with the over voice of ;covenant do you read? covenant come in' then jump scare/flash to Oram being face hugged n then end with a close up of the protomorph n that would be it.

second trailer just show the juggernaut coasting down the valley towards the city then the shot of david and the 'look on my works' dialogue then end.

u don't need much to whet peoples appetite for something. still have the last supper prologue as due to the lack of character building in the movie its a must nut for the most part, keep them guessing. anything new keep under wraps imo, don't have the movie sussed weeks before its premier

Oram being face hugged and the back burster should never have been in the trailers nor the protomorph or neomorph. if ur gna show the protomorph keep the neo a secret and vice versa yet we got both. iv heard a saying that too often the best bits of a movie are in the trailers and with AC this is definitely the case. we see Oram face hugged in the trailer and also the protomorph so doesn't take a member of MENSA to work out where it came from. back burster scene was way better than the throat buster scene yet we get the back burster in the trailers. cheers for that. far too many ppl, esp on here, figured out the film after just the trailers and that should never happen, especially after Prometheus where the possibilities were endless on where they could have taken the sequel yet after the trailers people had it sussed. yeah give urself a pat on the back whoever deserves it for that cock up. I agree with dk, some things need to be kept quiet. imagine if no one knew about the motes/back burster and neomorph till they saw the film. how amazing would that have been?? everyone still wanted to see it but I feel something was taken away from the who thing by revealing everything to us in the trailers. it was like seeing it for the second time while watching the film for the first time.

I see the point of couples on the colonisation mission but that just makes sense. Prometheus was heavily faith and origins toned but I didn't get any of that from AC.

But Alien Covenant felt like a reboot in itself. So now what every new movie is a reboot? You can have a villain without the hero, and vice-verse.

Agreed ali81. I enjoyed Covenant but it was far from perfect. Like an Adam and Eve rip-off gone wrong.

id put it on hold and take stock of the situation. AC dropped the story ark/ expanded universe ball big time and needs to regroup. if this means another year to wait id rather wait and they got it right. but will Disney push the boat out and give us a movie above pg13?

Well we already have a David the Android movie it is called Artificial Intelligence and is Spielberg finishing a film with a very complicated development from Kubrick. I've re-watched both that and BR2049 recently and I like the former more than the latter. Ok, the visuals are not that impressive and the CGI is showing it's age but BR2049 is clearly ripping it off at least as Vegas concerns.

And on a other level do you imagine that for this movie would have to work together Disney, Sony and Warner Bros. ? Do we want this precedent?

I need closure damn it! I dont care if it doesn't link directly to Alien, in fact given where it is going Id now rather it didn't. But they can't just keep this story arc hanging like that. The Covenant is going to a distant world with a huge crew of colonists, on a ship full of colonist gear, with a mad android and two facehuggers. Besides Daniels and Tennessee its an almost blank slate they could soft reboot from anyway.  

Michael Green was no longer onboard. John Logan was: he fleshed out all those "unforgettable" (and cringe worthy) David/Walter moments. Problably he never watched an Alien movie. I was never a fan of the Gladiator screenplay anyway.

Didn't John Logan said that Sci-fi is a minor genre? Maybe get rid also of Michael Green, dispite writing Logan I don't think he has an ounce of originality in him.

A reboot before connecting to the original Alien (which was the original intent) is weak, lazy and a slap in the face to loyal fans who have gone the distance imo.

And of course get rid of ultimate hack John Logan. He is the one who do the sweet talking and convinced Ridley Scott about all the David-centric nonsense, extermination of the engineers, etc.

Nobody cares what happens to the characters from Alien Covenant. If this story is not fake news, then it is really good news because it signals a new direction: "flush the things that didn't work down the toilet, don't  try to build upon them": that's the advice I imagine an studio executive would have made to the new management. I am glad they auctioned the props used in Alien Covenant, since I am not a fan of them: not enough alien-y, not on par with Prometheus and not even at the level of an average Ridley Scott movie. Together with the props. I hope they get rid of David as well, or at least I hope he stays in a minor rol. They need to put Giger's and O'Bannon's alien back into the Alien franchise.

There's a 4th option, they continue at a different point/time within the existing lore. Unless that is considered a reboot.

One burning question that needs to be answered is why, in the time of Alien, the ultimate fashion crime of pink piping on shirt collars and pockets was committed. Also, why was the ‘turbulence’ graphic being shown when Kane’s body was being jettisoned in deep space? It’s a mystery with no end.

I work with the Trauma FX manis and with a little moulage, they are quite realistic. They even have motorized and programmable limbs, lungs, eyes, voice, circulation and spew arterial and venous blood. Interestingly, I was warned that the penis breaks off. We laughed it off until it actually happened. WY hopefully learned from that.

To me, that is the point. Alien is well known albeit not popular. Less is more IMO. They could have given it all away in 1979 but they kept their cards close.

dk - Compare the decades, compare the number of movies released in them, compare the cultural and technological differences between the seventies and present day - internet, blu-ray, downloading, social media, and so on... It's not easy to sell a movie today, the competition is huge.

I think the blade runner alien franchise connection could happen. espiecially under disney. they have marvel there isn't really an adult cinimatic universe. building a strong foundation with the blade runner movies and alien movies, they could then add loosley connected spinoffs like amanda ripleys story, some movies and tv shows  based of the comics. hell. the could even reboot the show firefly as a post alien ressurection spinnoff. ( there is weyalnd yutani guns seen in the show). this could become very profitable and may be the most logical place to go.

Whoa there. Awesome post! I just, I see SO MUCH POTENTIAL for a wonderful wonderful Science Fiction film here! I think that our chance to see something such as this is gone. I mean, David isn't a hit with the masses and the mishandling of the Alien myhtos as well  new Prometheus/Covenant mythos.. we're in too deep! I agree with dk in that the next movie needs to stop messing around and link up to Alien. Tie up the Engineers, David, The Covenant, and have the end of the movie setup Alien boom bam bang. I also think that linking the Blade Runner universe is too... much. My last issue with this is that we have probably seen enough of David and Weyland and their dynamic and all that. Trust me, I LOVE some of your ideas here and want to see more of David and Weyland, but I think that we have enough of their story and themes in Pormetheus and Covenant. 

I will end this by saying, once again, AWESOME idea!

also a suggestion i would make is to not market it as an alien film but rather a blade runner film. than simultainiously while davd is being made, a different director can make the final prequel tying the prequels up. it can give the engineers some screen time and clear things up with the xenomrohps creation. all while making an entertaining clonists vs xenomorphs vs engineer story.

 so blade runner would become part of not only the alien universe but the frnachise as well? I like that idea considering it would at 2 more masterpieces to aliens repitoir. on quiestion though, in the blade runner movies, people have bean going off world since 2019 but in alien covenant set in 2075, the covenant is supposedly the first large scale colonization mission. also replicants are more advanced than androids and yet they supposedly were made almost 50 years before david. some jurastic things would have to happen from 2049 to 2075 to make this possible.

The next installment should focus on what led to the crash on LV426. All the other grandiose themes that developed can be explored later. I think fans want closure and not be strung along forever.

I agree with the spoilerific advertising.I always thought it was a mistake to show Orum getting face hugged,the shower scene,and the backburster.The backburster of course was hiped to top the original chestburster.If they really wanted that it should have been held back.

trokanmariel The PS3 plays the entire Anthology and spat out Prometheus a couple times at first (but I threatened it with AVPR and it came around), but they all play just fine. But it wanted to replay the pristine AC again by itself. I had to unplug it since I felt unworthy to behold utter perfection twice in the same night.
