Looks like a possible click baity dudd.
I think cooler heads should prevail at this point even though I am getting fired up. I saw another article stating- "According to reports, Fox has scrapped plans for Alien: Awakening though there hasn’t been any official confirmation on the news, aka this could just be rumours."
Click bait?
Who would be Goliath- the Engineers? WY? Humanity? Peter?
red0guy The React365 post looks sort of dubious. A re telling of Alien seems super weak and seems to underscore that someone may have meandered so much that the prequels cannot link up to Alien.
It seems present plot points from Prometheus and AC need to simply be abandoned to link up with Alien. After that- I have a whatever attitude.
I find myself getting amped up but need to remember there is no official word yet.
The React365 thing claims that will be an Alien remake instead of Awakening which will try to resolve the loose ends and retell the original story once again with new characters. Maybe it will have Weaver in it digitally made younger and killed off because they will want every single nostalgia dime.
I still wonder, but Alien Covenant was a remake in many ways, what are they thinking will work differently with a new remake?
I cannot edit my post. One last thing Sir Ridley- It is OK to leave some ambiguity for us to think about.
AH, I saw DK as bringing this up but it was Timmy the ultramorph who posted the thread and deserves credit!
I hated on the Disney deal at first but have embraced it. Other members have rightly pointed out the hemming and hawing from RS, FOX and writers- it gets confusing and ultimately frustrating as a fan. Here are my two cents:
Disney- allow and support RS to do ONE MORE movie tying the prequels to Alien. It would probably be very Engineer heavy. RS- focus solely on tying it up and allow for a 120 minute movie. Fans want closure. After that, by all means- explore the David/WY/Xeno arcs as you wish.
I hope for option 2 only with just one more movie tying into Alien. After that, they can do whatever they want. I was 11 when Alien was released- I'm getting too old for this s"it.
This report is just another confirmation that FOX cannot make up it's mind!!! If we got to wait 5 years like we did with the Prometheus sequel, well... that would just suck.
Honestly, I just want to see the end of the prequels story!! So what if it isn't a blockbuster! FOX NEEDS TO LET RIDLEY DO WHAT HE WANTS!!!! It is just one more movie!!!! Covenant didn't bomb! From the reports on this website, it sounded like FOX was all in for a sequel and in letting Ridley do what he wants. Now, a month later, they can any sequel from ever happening! This is all after they talked Ridley into changing Alien: Covenant into what it is!
I LOVED PROMETHEUS!!!! 9/10!!! For sure!!! It just has some flaws in it, yet I can see run time being an issue with those flaws.
It's hard being an Alien franchise fan it seems... Promises... Promises... Promises... seem to constantly get broken...
Still, I don't consider this news official. Still, we better get that sequel sooner than 5 years, like Prometheus's sequel.
Fox just needs to FINISH THE PREQUELS and JUST BE DONE WITH IT. Alien: Covenant isn't finished to me. There needs to be at least one more movie. Plus, since bonus footage for Alien: Covenant set up a sequel on top of the ending in A:C. I guess FOX doesn't care about the fans. It's the bottom line that matters.
This is just rude and frustrating. Couldn't Fox just give a limited budget to Ridley? The fans deserve one more! And it better come in less than 5 frickin' years!

The source of the news story is weak.
This could be a way to get media attention for the sequel before a news release. Please post updates if there is an official word from Fox that the Alien: Covenant sequel is cancelled.
Thank you for the heads up Timmy the ultramorph.
I know a lot of people are gonna hate me for this....but I'm fine with this. I honestly think this series needs to be rebooted and the Xenomorph needs to be done right again. I want to see a tension filled film with the Alien once again being a horrifying creature lurking in the dark.
Not completely surprised but with studios trying to establish franchises and universes I would expect something from the mouse kingdom in a few years. However, it won't be Scott's movie and I'm not sure I'll watch.
I certainly hope this isn't true. We deserve at least one more movie to bridge the gap between Covenant and the original film. Denying the existence of this potentially pivotal chapter would leave a gaping hole in the story of Alien that likely would never be filled if the film is canceled. He story needs to be FINISHED, not rebooted.
The symbolism of Alien Covenant is too perfect and too important to have a sequel; I agree, that Covenant ended on a cliffhanger, but the ending doesn't have to be perceived that way.
David's victory can just be a victory, and besides, the symbolism of Upworth and Ricks deserves to prevent a sequel, and Oram, Karine and Faris are also characters who deserve to finish the franchise
Noooooooooooooooooooo
Ingeniero - Interestingly enough, I did not jump to the conclusion that your subconscious wanted to say something.
Thank you for the images, they are beautiful - because they show love.
'Thank you for a wonderful year of discussion, anticipation, obsession, and reflection.'
We thank you...
Kudo's to Timmy the Ultramorph for catching this one first.
Maybe they could show some testicular fortitude and demand an installment that links directly to Alien.
This sequel That I mentioned is if disney lets ridley scott continue.
I am surprised that you seem happy about it. covenant left off on a cliffhanger and now the franchise will be on ice for years.
Maybe in 35 years that will find a good way to continue it.
Sorry but did you posted that it might be cancelled?
And to answer your question most probably not as the it happened in that 1 min flashback. What should happen should be more akin to http://blog.spu.edu/lectio/davids-fall-from-grace-sex-and-violence-in-davids-house/
trokamariel- Indeed, all the questions were answered and loose ends tightened. Nice, neat, tidy- perfection.
Thank God. Alien Covenant was too perfect to have a sequel, so I welcome this news extremely well.
Upworth and Ricks must be left alone
Good. Let's see where Disney takes it.
our only hope now is that when disney takes over they will change plans.
LOL- it might say more about us viewers than the drawing itself!
We're all Giger fans here, there is nothing wrong with a little subconscious phallic symbolism .......... lol
That is very funny. I would have rather faced a xenomorph than answer questions this month talking about the facts of life with my other daughter. Absolutely terrified. Like Lambert.
Good topic Gavin. I agree with your point regarding Peter Weyland's David model.
Peter Weyland would not part with the technology of the Alpha Reader/Communicator (Neuro Visor) in which David 8 was able to speak to Peter Weyland in hypersleep. It was one of a kind (Weyland-Yutani Report page 40). Weyland Industries decided not to make more than one and never sold the product.
A decision Peter Weyland said he based on "a man should have the privacy, at least, of his own dreams." Liar.

Peter Weyland wasn't concerned with others' privacy.
He refused to pass on a powerful tool and kept the ability to stay in hypersleep and continue to communicate with David and instruct him to "try harder" and then run a test on Dr. Holloway.
Below is the David model evolution cited above by BigDave.

This evolution above is, in my opinion, the artistic license of content builders untouched by David Giler, Walter Hill, and Ridley Scott....ask me for specifics on this and I know zilch on them but this hopefully explains inconsistencies in the main character's background. It is just a disappointment to believe the story of the main character has been treated so carelessly.
How many Davids?
My belief (based on Peter Weyland's above described behavior) is that he would ship out the very best that he trusted others with and nothing near what he would keep for himself.
If Peter Weyland were to loosen control and send out the most powerful David models to others, then they might get to the prize first and use it to knock him off his throne. He told David to bring him tea once he sniffed out how right he got it in constructing him when speaking to David at the beginning of Alien: Covenant.
There is no way he would place that David into the hands of someone else.

In his 2023 TED talk, Weyland cited Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra, in his quote below:
"I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all."
He believed he was like no one else and falsely believed with his works he could rise to immortality. Peter Weyland rose up in front of an Engineer with different beliefs and was converted to the Engineer belief system with one swing of David's severed head into his.
Sorry no matter how they spin it, they f***ed-it up here. How did they think a story would work with a "great" (I disagree with, still think he is a nazi space robot) villain and no hero? RS said that Tennessee and Daniels have to return. So the Jester with the hat and Ripley-clone are fine...
and off-topic, having recently read Do androids dream of electric sheep? I think that David from Prometheus is a way more faithful adaptation of a replicant from the Dick book than any from the 2 Blade Runner movies (good job there Lindelof).
Hmm... Maybe you were doodling while having "The Talk about the Facts of Life"
Merry Christmas BigDave, IRaptus, and dk.
I am 100% sure that my subconscious did not "pipe" in a phallic image into my depiction. I just know it. For real. Not a chance. That goes without saying that I wouldn't consciously draw the quite clear peckerish urn...I must have moved on to explaining the different rovers (during urn evolution) they deployed and was not concentrating on my crayon line. That is the answer. You buy that...right?
I can see entirely why people organise their thoughts around the optimistic/dark argument. Much of the tension in the first set of movies was based not just around the creature but W-Y acquisitive morally bankrupt attitude toward it with the third spoke Ripley.
However i am convinced that whereas the words Star Trek or Star Wars conjure up sub created universes and visions into which a rich seam of possibilities can be introduced, more so with Trek, A L I E N means a monster and Big Dave has very eloquently explained its limitations. Predator, as someone not interested, means a certain kind of monster, Jurassic means certain kind of monsters and both have fan bases big enough to generate multiple movies but for the general public its oh thats about dinosaurs or thats about a weird looking thing which impregnates. The idea you can bring the huge bigger audience in based on such a narrowly defined artistic tic just isn't right. You only have to look at AVPGalaxy which takes an even more narrow but more thorough interest in the monster centric element to see the deeper the fan base gets in and the closer you move to the centre the fan base displays the kind of pre occupations the general audience just isn't pre occupied by or relates to.
BigDave ST and SW always had something else going for them that the Alien prequels lack- a generally consistent cast of characters- except for David and a big maybe on Walter.
Xenotaris makes a good point about David 8 being too perfect. I like to think he was a custom advanced model and future models may have been somewhat simplified for the masses?
Interestingly, David's lack of updates over the years of isolation seem to have become an evolutionary step of sorts.
To the OP, he is the 8th generation per the video. IDK what or if the WY Report delves into it.
@ Big Dave, I like to think that there is another possibility...
That the David we see in the opening to AC is the first David, the prototype and Weyland's personal model, and despite being the oldest of the Davids is actually the more advanced, with the mass-produced David 1's using the most basic of Davids functions and with each subsequent generation including more of the prototype Davids features culminating in David 8's adopting the David prototypes ability to emulate and understand human emotions.
