Since you have the video in slow-mo back to just before the egg opens when Kane is checking it out. Look closely. The water drips UP. Not down.

I've always thought the same thing bigbirdjimmy. Considering the fact that the Space Jockey had been dead a long time, you have to think about how long those eggs have been their? How were they able to sustain themselves for so long. Probably do to the environment from which they were in. Its sure a topic to ponder on.
you've just been FACEHUGGED!

ReplybigbirdjimmyAlien Movies ForumEgg ChamberFeb 9, 2012
@Rick-I looked at the thread titles but didn't see anything like this. Sorry I am bringing it up again. If its not the ship and it feels like the tropics, maybe its in a volcanic lava tube or something like that. I really don't know exactly where this would be, but it would have to be engineered by the space jockey because of the "blue seal", and the neatness of the eggs and egg chambers.
Also what are the odds that Kane was lowered into the last working egg chamber. Maybe all the chambers work and the blue haze/seal activate its self when detecting motion. Maybe it activates or "wakes up" the eggs? The eggs could be like insects in deserts around the world here on earth. When it rains after years of being dormant and dried out, they hatch and come to life. They, the aliens, are compared to insects all the time. Who knows.

ReplyDsparilPrometheus ForumSpace Jockey can be seen in the trailerFeb 8, 2012
Hate to bring up old threads, but unfortunately the larger humanoid you see in the picture next to the chair is not a space jockey. I have a sneaky suspicion he might be an early android. He's too small to be an actually space jockey. Simply compare the size of the being in the space jockey chair from the original alien to the empty chair in the film and you can see the helmet clamp and realize that this person isn't the SJ. We have not seen the Space Jockey yet. It could also simply be a mutation to a crew member. Furthermore, if you study his suit closely you'll see a smoother shinier texture to the lower half of his body that is NOT present on the SJ suit. Also take note of the horizontal lines on the pants. Again, they're not present on the suits shown in the stills. A personal theory is it's simply a person who has been mutated and has swelled inside his suit. I think that's a battered and damage space suit that the team members were wearing and has simply tightened around him after he's become enlarged.
I'm 110% sure though we have not seen the Space Jockey yet. I think we're going to be in for a treat.
ReplybregoPrometheus ForumDifferent "breeds" of Xenomorph. . .Feb 8, 2012
Agreed Xenophobe. Im thinking along the lines of a couple of Gigers landscapes in his various books. Basically a cross between formed and unformed structure and fluidity, very Alien to our eyes, horrid and beautiful at the same time. As Ridley once said "you dont know if its going to Fuck you or Kill you!"
Getting even more excited.

@Shambhala: That is a good png with good resolution. You just need to open the picture in new window to see it in full resolution and things become clearer.
@Membrane: If the jumping guy is the same as the smoking helmet/burning face guy. Then there should be a big scar on the left (his right) side of the forehead. The thing burning is just above the left eye. With the jumping beardyman there is something in the middle of the forehead.
@danrald: his eyes are still there, they are almost closed in the picture. But they´ve sunken as if he has been loosing fat/soft tissue on his face. It is possible his head has elongated towards the back but it is unclear in the picture. Top of his head looks bigger in proportions than face but the missing fat tissue could be the reason.
@jbsmit3@gmail.com: If you look at the picture in full resolution it looks to me the guy has a reddish cut/streak of blood on his forehead. To me it looks like a cut not mutation.
The guy has beard. This gives 3 possibilities. 1: So he had it already when they landed and then this is a totally new unidentified character. 2: He has been comatose/critical and the beard has grown during that time. 3: He has been out on the planet for a while without a shave and has now returned to attack the crew.
The time it takes to grow a beard like that... few months? If he´s been without a shave then his mohawk should be gone with hairgrowth (1cm/month). So me thinks he had the beard all along and the change in him has been relatively fast. I think this is a character yet to be identified and there has to be at least two guys with mohawks (the other one in med bay had no beard).

Hi! As you should know french is an extremely precise language... and the trailer is very explecite: I can not say who is talking but it's the same female voice talking with a panic voice:
-Vous ne comprenez pas? (How come don't you understand?)
- Écoutez-moi... C'était une erreur... (Listen to me! It was a mistake (to do that)
- J'ai eu tort... On aurait jamais dû... (It was my mistake... We should have never did that...)
-Je suis désolé... (I am so sorry...)

I speak the language fluently as I live and grew up in Montreal. Our French here however is a ittle less formal than in FRANTZ haha and we have the much over the world desired "POUTINE" and "SMOKE MEAT" hot spots.
Here's a good addittion to your list.
"je ne comprendre pas"
{ I do not understand}
"Ou sans les Cinema?"
{Where are the movie theaters?}
&
"Vouler-Vous venir hez moi"?
{Would you like to come over to my place?}
Cheers man !

AFAIK the production crew of "Alien" themselves are the guys that first coined the term "Space Jockey".
ReplySpartacusPrometheus Forumspace jokey????Feb 8, 2012
The set with the deceased alien creature, which the production team nicknamed the "space jockey", proved problematic as 20th Century Fox did not want to spend the money for such an expensive set that would only be used for one scene. Ridley Scott described the set as the cockpit or driving deck of the mysterious ship, and the production team was able to convince the studio that the scene was important to impress the audience and make them aware that this was not a B movie.[44][49] To save money only one wall of the set was created, and the "space jockey" sat atop a disc that could be rotated to facilitate shots from different angles in relation to the actors.[16][49] Giger airbrushed the entire set and the "space jockey" by hand.[44][49]

I think you'll find the term 'Space Jockey' originally appeared in a Robert Heinlein Sci Fi novel, 1960's..

When Ridley said that "The Space Jockey is a suit", maybe what he really meant that he is the outer-space equivalent of our modern day "suit", you know corporate yes man. So when the Gods instruct the SJ to drop viral eggs on Earth, the SJ just went: "Yes, Sir!" without question. He is a f-ig suit!

ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumXeno life cycle...Feb 8, 2012
That Giger art, the one used as your avatar seems to indicate some kind of higher being/"intelligence" being responsible for the beginning of the Xenomorph life cycle. Hmmm. . .
ReplysnugsPrometheus ForumXeno life cycle...Feb 8, 2012
I never felt there was another stage to the life cycle per se, I think the Xeno is the final product however if you consider the deleted scene from the first film then that hints at another intermediate stage in forming the egg from bio mass and presumably some kind of intervention from the xeno itself.
I always sided with the idea that these things were a very well designed weopon but the more and more I dwell on this I am coming to the conclusion that their creation was a complete accident.
If you think about it the life cycle is completely inefficient, what is the point in having an egg stage, if the egg does not then hatch the finished article? Surely an efficient killing machine would reproduce much quicker and either give birth directly (ike a mammal) or the egg would produce an infant creature straight away?
This raises another interesting question for me - is the facehugger actually the 'big cheese' so to speak as this is what pops from the egg? And if the xeno is capable of producing its own eggs (minus the queen concept) then is the xeno the 'carrier' and not the other way around?
Which came first.......?
questions, questions

@Spartacus, your link discusses what we already know from the films.
I think we will see something completely different in Prometheus, given the fact that the xeno does not yet exist. I like the idea of a further stage of development from the adult xeno.
