Snorkelbottom, 'Windows Movie Maker' seems to be pretty basic as you say, and doesn't seem to be rated highly by the guys that are proficient at 'fan-editing'.
Not sure about a totally free version of a decent piece of software being available for this kind of thing, but it seems that the 'Sony Vegas' software is available as a free 30-day trial download if you ever feel like trying it out for yourself.
Here's a link to a table which compares the different features in the various versions of it - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiope/compare
And here's a link to the various downloads. From what I can gather from what some 'fan-editors' have posted in the past, 'Sony Vegas Movie Studio' is a well-thought-of editor which offers lots of features and gives excellent results - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials
See what you think.

is supposed to be a fossil rock which was moulded by bones?
without a doubt the sj of Alien the eighth passenger wore a biological suit as the using of ID4 aliens. Perhaps its deterioration is due to the fact that it is a biomechanoid that has been affected by the conditions of the environment and the passage of time. The xenomorfos must be machines due to the strong resemblance they have with the SJ.
I hope that the movie has sexual references as the Necronomicon. in fact come to think that the space jockeys would be as bad as the cenobites from Hellraiser.
Another thing that I imagine at first was that the xenomorphs would have a different aspect by the fact of having had no contact with humans. Just imagine a native creature on the planet of the jockey, who is infected by the facehugger, the result would be a creature with a completely different aspect to the xenomorph born of a human, dog, cat or Predator…

its not negative to have a preference vanilla i stand by my reasoning.
Anything's possible in the world of the hypothetical !
Unless you do indeed have a raffle ticket and i win it i wont change my mind.
ReplyshardyPrometheus Forumpros and cons of cinema vs home viewingJan 21, 2012
@alteredstate: you make a lot of valid points in both the pros and cons
of the contemporary cinema experience, with all it's faults and delights
i guess for me it all comes down to how badly i need to see a film
when i was in my early / mid-twenties,
me and a one time friend would go to see almost all the big summer movies
when summertime would roll around, and we were all too happy to deal with
all the negatives you mentioned in your post, we'd even see a decent amount
of films off season as well (all with drinks / popcorn / the vigor of our youth)
we were both cinephiles and we did our best to be respectful of the other
audience members, and we did our best to keep the munching of the popcorn
to a stealthy quiet (for the most part)
cut to now, and i am (sadly) willing to not go to a theater these days,
and i am almost okay with waiting for whatever films i wish to see
to come onto my cable channel line up (sad i know)
with that said, there is something about seeing a film on a giant screen,
with (hopefully) amazing film quality and great sound to match. the last film
i couldn't wait to see and enjoy on a LARGE screen was TRON:Legacy.
i saw it in IMAX 3D. the "3D" wasn't all that, but the sound in that particular
theater was quite good. there is a scene early on in the film, where a recognizer
flies in front of the camera, and the sound effects for that particular shot made
our theater seats shake!
aside from that, i can understand how going out to a theater has lost
it's appeal now that i am in my forties. the tickets prices make me
cringe, and the prices at the concession stand are A B S U R D..!!!!
at the same time, i know for a FACT that i can NOT bypass
experiencing PROMETHEUS on the BIG SCREEN. i was never one
of the lucky ones to have seen ALIEN in theaters, i've only ever seen
it on video. so i am making it a point to watch PROMETHEUS when
it FINALLY comes out in June (can NOT wait!)
and Spatacus...wow man! that sounds like a choice setup you've got,
i can only imagine how great PROMETHEUS will look on your setup
sweeeeeeeeet!
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus Forumpros and cons of cinema vs home viewingJan 21, 2012
Shardy you put your points over wonderfully and i'm in total agreement i will also be seeing prometheus at the cinema and hopefully my experience will be a Pleasurable one in both my enjoyment of the film and the cinema experience .
i'm about your age mid forties and i used to love the cinema experience to, i was probably an Irritating little tyke to in my youth but in recent years or the last time i went to the cinema in my home town of the uk i was surprised at how little it had changed in terms of the picture quality and Facilities it was the final star wars film that i saw and the picture was terrible.
Now i also know how well the cinema experience can be if the theatre has all the mod cons in place and has a digital projector /screen but as far as i'm aware there's not a cinema for miles near me that does and for that reason i'm pissed about it.
I think the closest cinema to me that is up to date is some forty miles away that's a pretty hefty price to pay to see a film you want to see when you consider the British rail system is the most expensive in europe.
Alas i will make a day of it with some friends and pay the extra and travel for fear of having the film ruined by the poor outdated traditional system i have in my hometown .
ReplyshardyPrometheus Forumpros and cons of cinema vs home viewingJan 21, 2012
@alteredstate: if a good cinema is 40 miles away, i can understand your angst!
and if you do decide to go via the rail system, it's one of those situations where you must
prepare ahead of time to ensure you make your screening time on time, as well as your
return trip goes fine without any delays of missed departures on the way back
when i read that some crap film is a "blockbuster" these days,
i am not surprised, given that ticket prices are so completely jacked up.
now if there was a theater that had their prices listed like they were back
in the day, and said film made over 200+ million, then i'd understand the
"blockbuster" moniker for that film. but these days....not-so-much
given the fact that the information age we all now exist is has changed
how we react and see modern days movies, i can't say for certain that
PROMETHEUS will be one of those few films that was a 1970's cash cow,
but i will hope and pray that the film itself is extraordinary, and that
is makes the necessary theater grosses to get either one sequel, or two
green-lit as supposedly Scott has planned
ah, the power of the will to see a (hopefully) great film!

@Spartacus: dude....tell me about it..!!!
it actually SCARES me to know just how much not only the world at large,
but I depend on, and am addicted to my computer and the internet
this is probably too much information but....
a while back, my internet cut out on me, i was told i'd have to wait 7 days for
a tech to come fix the problem. i only own / use one computer in my apt, and
at that time, i didn't own / use a smartphone
when i got off the phone with my internet provider, and they explained to me
that the soonest they could come repair the problem was well over a week away,
i literally (kid you not) walked in a circle for about 2 minutes
a C I R C L E...!!! lol! i can laugh now, but at the time it happened,
i was just at a loss. and was wondering WTF was going on with me,
that i felt compelled to make circles with my Nike's™ in my apt!
i grew up before there was ever any internet, and i was disturbed at the fact that
my pre-internet senses allowed myself to wander about my apartment wondering
WTF am i going to do without ALL that info at my fingertips, the way having
access to the internet has made me
i am not one for "internet cafe's",
so i went cold turkey for one week, and when my connection problem was finally
fixed, i appreciated the web more than i ever had before - - but was also weary
of just how DEPENDENT i had become (yikes!)
cut to a few years later, when my one and only computer DIED,
i was out of work, and didn't have a working computer / internet for 6 LONG months!
i felt awful...like REALLY AWFUL
the lesson learned, is that i am capable of existing without a computer / internet,
it just really kicked my ass mentally, and made me realize just HOW dependent
society as a whole has become in the digital age.....
in other words....i am WIRED TOO!

WARNING SPOILER!!
Warning!
There's a plot synopsis floating around that seems to follow what has already been revealed in screenshots and director/actor comments where the plot features time-travel.
According to this synopsis, the Prometheus ship goes through a wormhole and ends up on primordial earth and witnesses the Engineers manipulating our past.
This detailed plot synopsis would seem completely bogus for just this odd piece. However, the puzzle pile of clues fit together with revealed character names and some screenshots.
Overall, the story is amazing, except for this "Time-travel" thing.
I can suspend disbelief for so many of its Sci-Fi tropes.. But time travel is much too far of a stretch for me when presented as a major plot point. I mean, faster-than-light travel is bending time, but somehow more plausible to me for some silly reason.. So it's a legitimate concern because the lead writer, Damon Lindelof, has already penned several major time travel focused scripts already - Lost and Star Trek! I can't imagine a proven writer repeating himself again and again. Hopefully this plot was a very early draft and not representing the finished story as filmed.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 21, 2012
TIME TRAVEL, why would time travel be in Prometheus. The only reason such a lame idea would be used would be to explain that the Derelict has been there for millions of years, and to explain the fossilization of the SJ. But the SJ isn't fossilized its a SUIT (Ridleys words not mine) and I see no evidence whatsoever that Prometheus will feature time travel.
ReplyTetraDecoPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 21, 2012
Spoiler:
A flashback scene to primordial Earth is cool. Having the characters witnessing the event firsthand, is a bit silly.

If you have faster than light space travel then you inadvertently have time travel. If you don't have a problem with FTL, then you shouldn't have a problem with time travel. Ironically, in physics, time travel seems to have more proponents than FTL.

It's science fiction I hope they didn't take any off the wall thoughts they might have out of consideration. I am totally cool with FTL or time travel or wormholes or anything else as long as the story is good. The things is if you study what is available right now it starts to point more toward one rather than the other. To me it seems to be pointing toward a narration of the creation of life on earth and a 30 year time span between Prometheus and Alien. I don't however see evidence of a large time travel event yet.
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumTime travel?Jan 21, 2012
Yunno, if Ripley was, to-all-intents-and-purposes, in suspended animation for 57 years between Alien and Aliens, then could the same not be applied to Prometheus? This would then no longer require FTL to reach the destination. Though, I guess this would force the time line further back to the early 21st century at least, which in turn would be problematic for the technological continuity issue I brought up in another thread, "Technological Anachronisms" (and others had previously risked before that).

OOOPS. Its been reported in this magazine too. Well I could be wrong but it sounds as if the paper I'm on about stole and twisted their story from this. My bad. But the skeletal creatures thing sounds similar to the fake leaked script that was doing the rounds not too long ago.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumIncredible Prometheus "Plot Reveal" From Kate Dickie!!!Jan 21, 2012
the interview occurred...the paper reported the info in an then and got one of the crew names wrong in this haste to do so. The bottom line is if any one is chased through the halls of Prometheus by Creatures in the film this Mag and Kate Dickie are going to be sued through the nose among other parts of their bodys.
AVP verified then reported the story initially after it popped up on several spots on the net.
We now know the interview did in fact take place.
We also now know Katie Dickie spoke to them at length but that only 2 quotes can be directly attributed to her...neither mention or refer to the plot...
all the same, AVP stands by the report and here are some of it's highlights...
For starters, it mentions that her character lasts 28 minutes in the film before an alien eats her.
The aliens actually chase the characters through the halls of the Prometheus ship.
Her character is called Mudow and she helps the crew become acclimated to their
removal from cryo-sleep.
Frantz claims AVP and the Scottish Newspaper have her character wrong and that she plays someone else, which for me I find to be the single most fascinating thing in all of this because only one of them...AVP, The Scottish Newspaper, or Frantz can be wrong !!!
She either plays Mudow or does not. If she doesn't O.K. then we know the story was fabricated but so far no one has said a word that would discredit the report at all, right now it seems to be standing as FACT.
After apparently five years in hyper sleep, she helps the crew get fit only for the crew to fall victim to creatures stalking them for food
The Daily Star, a Scottish newspaper recently interviewed Prometheus actress, Kate Dickie regarding her role in the film and what it was like to be a part of Ridley Scott's masterpiece.
In the interview, Kate reveals the name of her character which she plays in Prometheus; her name being "Mudow". She also goes on to say how her character is responsible for preparing the crew of the Prometheus after 5 years of hyper-sleep, but only lasts 28 minutes before being eaten by an Alien.
She also mentions how the crew of Prometheus are chased through the halls of their ship by "Skeletal Monstrosities".
Also, near the end of the article she"hints" that the ending of Prometheus leads into the opening of Alien. You can check out scans of this article on AvPGalaxy.net.

Members have the option to edit their own messages, not delete threads or posts. It's for the sake of the conversation really. If you no longer want your post there, simply edit it and remove the content and then we can delete it, but if we granted every member access to delete their own threads, it would just cause confusion I think. Especially with how quickly threads get replies to now, it would confuse people.
The edit feature allows you to go back and fix any errors you may have accidentally made.
