ehehe the line is thin ...
who search alot can do alot of damages ( pandora ) BUT also share knowledge can help alot ( prometheus )
one is a sad ending story ( but with a "there is always hope" ) and one is a winning story ( defy the gods and win even if with alot of ..pain ) ...of course the two stories are mixed both in mythology and maybe here too .

I'm still not understanding how the Rolling Stones fits in... But you could be right though.. maybe, just maybe, I could understand Keith Richards as the old man in the wheel chair. Are you saying that he is Prometheus and he stole music from the gods? Man, I can see that now, when the blast/sand storm occurs, "Gimme Shelter" starts to play... I hear you man!... ok, you can dog on me all you want..

They wrote the very very famous rock song..."Sympathy For The Devil".
Its the band that performed the song Biomechanic wrote the lyrics to !
The Most famous line from their song at that.
Big favorite of mine as a kid growing up in New York, Toronto & Montreal.

Hey I'm really proficient in music, and I have to say.. the Stones are the greatest band ever.. Do you know who Gram Parsons is?
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumSympathy for the DevilDec 30, 2011
sure do
I saw him live in Montreal about 15 years ago,
"Graham Parker And The Rumor" they were called back then I think!!!
Awesome Live Act !

No, Gram Parsons.. he died in 73 I think. Anyway, he influenced Keith Richards and was his good buddy.. Keith wrote "Wild Horses" for Gram..

I agree, I hope Prometheus is both retro and cutting-edge simultaneously. Sort-of 10% Alien, 10% 2001, 10% Forbidden Planet, and 70% something new.

If the movie goes well ...i say do another with Ridleys scott as a Sequel to ALIEN ( even if i think that Aliens is fantastic ) ...so we have a fantastic trilogy
Prometheus - Alien - ?
of course they will never accept that .

Why didn't they go back to LV-426 especially after Aliens? even after Alien 3 there was that lone survivor, the guy the alien wouldn't kill cause...? There was something kinda special about that guy. He kinda looked like the guy in the wheelchair Alien 4? No not the same guy but still that guy was kinda crazy. You know seeing dragons N' shit. Like who hasn't been back to LV-426 in their imaginationings....with one of these:

I believe Lindelof said something like "if there's a sequel to Prometheus, it wouldn't be Alien", and if I recall correctly, there was a story on Alien Prequel News which stated something like "insiders say the studio is already mulling a sequel", so IMO, we'll likely get something like Prom 2 (Prometheus Unbound?), if the first film's a hit.
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumComplete Franchise RebootDec 30, 2011
No one's gone back to LV-426 because the sector was completely levelled by the thermonuclear explosion caused by the escalating instability and inevitable collapse of the reactors cores of all the terraforming towers. Unless I'm gravely mistaken, I'm pretty sure this not only included the human settlement, Hadley's Hope, but also the location of the "derelict" crash site.
Regarding reboots, personally, I don't see any value for fans in rebooting the entire franchise, for this simple reason alone: nobody, not ever, will be able to make a better Alien - or Aliens for that matter. How do you better these films from what they already are? I'd argue that you can't.
I mean, you wouldn't reboot Star Wars (IV-V), or Godfather I & II. However, you will notice I mention only part of two celebrated trilogies, which leads me to my next point: rather than reboot the entire franchise, why not just remake the "ugly sister"?
So, if you were to say, "lets start over from Alien 3 onwards" now then you'd be talking. McG had the same idea with the Terminator franchise: by ignoring Terminator 3 altogether.

The cheaper labor made up for even the shipping costs of the units to North America, but I was the one they asked tho green and red light the cartridges for Canada... As a little bonus though , & so fans such as yourself can have what you want.,,
Sega recruited a company called GEARBOX to create the next Aliens related video game which will continue right after the events of Aliens, where it left off, with the destruction of most of the planet we know as LV-426.
It is a direct sequel to the film Aliens.
Comes out this spring and is called "Aliens: Colonial Marines" !!!

for me it would be (in order of viewing)
Star Wars: saw this one in a limited 2 week engagement in 1978
i've not been the same since. this film holds a special place in my heart
The Exorcist: saw this one on TV (edited) i've not been the same ever since.
i didn't sleep at all the night i saw it. i was literally shaking in my bed, sweating,
crying, just really DEVASTATED by this one. still, one of my all time favs
The Empire Strikes Back: took us almost a month to get tickets to see it,
when we finally did, it was WELL worth it, probably the most solid Star Wars
sequel to date
Blade Runner: saw this first run in the theater,
i was too young to really understand / appreciate it, but as time has passed,
it's one of my all time favorites, really profound concept for a film. Great.
ALIEN: saw this one my VCR,
i was not lucky enough to watch it first run, but since i first saw this film,
i can saw with all honesty, i've seen ALIEN 200+ times, and i just got it
on iTunes last week. there are few sci-fi films i'd call "hardcore", but this
one is definitely up there with 2001: A Space Odyssey, and THX 1138,
and Blade Runner. such a fantastic and iconic work of cinematic art
Excalibur: another one that had MANY rentals from my local video store,
John Boorman REALLY knew how to weave such a complex story into
a real visual / emotional journey. i recall the first time i watched it, i actually
felt EXHAUSTED when the film was over, like i had been taken far away
@Spartacus: The Other is a GREAT low-key suspense film,
they aired it on TCM HD, looked really great. still hold it's own even today

I'm seeing it as a possibility to how humans know where to go and possibly how to get there. E.g. the infected person has knowledge of star charts and how to create faster than light travel technology. Scott has said archaelogists discover fragmants of alien dna...........
ReplyDinosaurRaghhhPrometheus ForumMetallic look of thingsDec 29, 2011
Scott's own words regarding the xenomorth, "he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando and no way am I going back there"; instead, the alien will be reenvisioned as a progenitor of the received form of the Xenomorph, and Scott contacted H. R. Giger for possible artistic collaboration.
pro·gen·i·tor

A person or thing from which a person, animal, or plant is descended or originates; an ancestor or parent.
................. I have high hopes we will see a creatures, especially looking at the amount of references to preduction crew related to effects, design, puppetry, etc both to creature design and prostethics :)))

I agree with you Starbeast...
There maybe more than one Space Jockey craft.. One maybe even called Prometheus. The way the derelict ship crumbles is odd.. it looks like the left "horn", falls to the right side.. then something else falls down next to the left "horn" if that makes sense..
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumWhat am IDec 29, 2011
danrald,
Not sure which part of the trailer you refer to but your thoughts remind me of my own puzzlement at a particular point in the trailer - perhaps one and the same as yours. Around about 58 seconds into the trailer we see a clip of the Rapace and Theron characters in the foreground running away, while behind them the "derelict" is falling down.
However, notice further back, and to the left, there seems to be another object coming to rest. I'm intrigued as to what and where that is from - I've persuaded myself it is not a part of the "derelict", but what could it be?...
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumWhat am IDec 29, 2011
Starbeast.. we are on the same page. That whole action piece seems to be sequential. But we don't know what hit the derelict, or there could have been more pieces to the derelict that we don't know about. Something exploded in midair away from the derelict, but it (the derelict) got hit in one spot.. when it lands upright you can see the smoke coming out of it. The arial view also show things burning around it.. Shaw is on the side of the 3 rings ("vaginal entrances" as Giger calls them) on the ship. But then both the horns fall in the same place. Which is odd.. unless there is another ship.. You said "notice further back, and to the left, there seems to be another object coming to rest". The "further back object" is the right sided horn from the arial view. Well at least to me it look like it.. none the less, it would be odd for the ship to crumble like that.. Note! This is not the same ship as the one in Alien, but it looks like it, the one in mid air is missing some pieces that was in the original Alien.

Starbeast, we are on the same page. You said "notice further back, and to the left, there seems to be another object coming to rest.", that further back piece is the right horn of the ship from the arial view. The series of events are sequential. The derelict gets hit, by something slightly. The explosion is away from the ship. It lands upright with smoke coming out of it. Shaw is on the side of the ship with the 3 rings ("vaginal entrances" Giger calls them). Then the right horn (the further back piece) from the arial view falls on the right side. Then the left horn falls next to it.. meaning it rotates. Or.. there is another ship.. Note, the ship in mid air is not the same as the ship in Alien. It's missing a piece. Which is another thread.. lol
ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumWhat am IDec 29, 2011
Yes, you can see a big gouge in the ground to the left of the derelict in the shot where it is resting "horns up."
It falls horns first and apparently rolls all the way around to a horns up position. Of course, nothing that big should be capable of doing that and remaining intact, but it definitely appears to be the sequence of events.
ReplydanraldPrometheus ForumThousands Of EggsDec 29, 2011
Ghost Solitare,
I think James Cameron kinda messed up with the whole Alien action movie, making a queen. But to fix that, we can say that one of the members of the LV-426 colony got stung by a bee, then the facehugger planeted a alien in the member that got stung.. lol.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThousands Of EggsDec 29, 2011
Using the Aliens in such a way does not necessarily make the Space Jockey's evil. If they use them on planets filled with wildlife to create artificial extinction events (a theory I previously posted) to encourage the development and evolution of intelligent life, then the Aliens purpose fits in with that of the Space Jockey's, to creation and nurturing of life to create intelligent life.
