The title of your post should have been the title of the news post on the main blog, but instead they went with something that was misleading and sounded very negative.
who said the black goo removed the idea of the queen? I certainly didn't.
Watch the Alien: Covenant Blu-ray extra scene "Advent". It shows David's plan to use Daniels to birth an Alien Queen. since when does the black goo remove the idea of the Queen? I think you're a bit confused.
So much acidic blood would have cut through the core of the planet.

if u mix both alien and aliens together u see completely different circumstances. in alien it was a lone xeno acting on its sole instinct where as in aliens it was a collective hive mind guided by a higher, seemingly more intelligent matriarch. I didn't go for the xeno cutting off the power though as Hudson states 'their animals' but is this just a case of us humans AGAIN arrogantly believing wer the be all and end all, the only sentient species capable of thought in the universe and detaching ourselves from the fact that we are just animals aswell?
with the way the black goo works it definitely looks as though the queen is taking a back seat in the series and morphing was as u said the original concept. although not in the theatrical release, only due to the pace of the film, it was in the directors cut which enters it into canon. like u said when aliens was in the making, morphing wasn't a thing so Cameron addressed the issue in keeping with the derelict scene in alien where we see all the eggs so a queen made sense.
im not sure if RS intends to bring in some form of queen or at least hint towards a queen being included in the series but I agree both should have a place and there isn't any reason why they both cant exist in the xeno life cycle.
chli, that's something along the lines of what id like to see aswell. for me, if the derelict is there because of david, it takes so much away from the derelict scene in alien and it wont be the same watching it again.
I agree.Despite what i said,I'm actually curious as to how the next film will incorporate both,if at all, into the story. In my opinion, the series has an obligation to include both for better continuity, something the series is struggling with right now.
haha I know I just commented. I do prefer Ridleys vision. I don't think he really had much by way of backstory to the xeno or derelict when he made it as it was only a B movie and I don't think he expected any sequels but I think the mystery is what captivated so many along with the sheer horror of the film. letting the viewer scare the shit out themselves by letting our imagination tell the story was a work of genius. Cameron definitely showed us more to the xeno but because he could really only go down the route of mixing action with horror we were obviously going to see more of the xeno though I think hes tried to limit its exposure as much as he could.
I def prefer egg morphing as it offers more horror and is something different yet for me both can exist no problem
Lol i just launched a separate topic regarding the egg morphing vs Queen argument. It's definitely one of the most divisive aspects of these two directors approach to the series.
Or Janet "Danny" Daniels (Wikipedia)?
Janet?
imagine the battlefield right in the thick of it, frontline stylee!!
in reality at the time aliens was in the works the only path Cameron could have taken was the one he took. as he says himself, if he had gone down the route of the lone xeno it would have been just another 'alien'. I love them both equally but I prefer alien just a little more. I prefer the horror. to me there is horror in aliens but not in the same way. I also prefer egg morphing to the queen but im one who believes both morphing and queen have a place in the xeno life cycle.
iraptus, totally agree. there was horror there when I was reading it and also the inclusion of other alien races though long dead. plus a familiar foe returns. I thought it could make a good alternate sequel to alien
encounters, most novels are just one off stories but SOS series is a trilogy, I believe its sea of sorrows then river of pain followed by cant remember the name off hand. these are canon I believe and the most recent novels other than the AC novelisation. a must read series
"In Alien the Alien cocoons Brett and Dallas, and kills Parker and Lambert hides on Narcissus to die. Yet in Aliens they outflank the marines, turn off the power, set up an ambush, communicates with their Queen, who then operates an elevator. Yet Ridley-fans claim Cameron dumbed the creature down."
Imo that's more an example of a dumb script than of a smarter alien.
Always Ridley. After Alien (1979) everything was garbage until 2012 Scotts return. It will be best if Ridley works with James Wan, it will be the best sci-fi horror
Colin Chulver the concept artist who worked on Covenant has confirmed that the reasoning was driven by the practicality of dressing a substantial number of extras in an economic manner. The make up for the Engineer acolyte in Prometheus took nine hours to achieve.
That is not to say that the welcoming crowd were not the Lambs who rejected the experimenting which created the Wolves in the Engineers history.
it is also important to remember in ADF's novelisation he reinforces the notion the population are the tall Engineers who inhabit the space suits and fly the Juggernauts. He does this both in significant and insignificant ways, an example of the latter by describing the steps the Covenant crew climb as made for creatures larger than humans.
Its one of those examples were some people accept artist licence and others call it a plot hole or plot significant. it is the former not the latter.
Alien: Covenant will give the company a profit (adding DVDs, Blu-rays, streaming etc.), so what is the problem?
Yes, I would prefer a flashback scene at the end of Alien: Awakening where we go back in time to the outbreak on LV-223 and a juggernaut hastily leaves with its cargo hold filled with eggs and crashes on LV-426.
Digital sales are hugely important. Alien Covenant has been consistently near the top of pre-orders in the UK iTunes Store for months now.
Unfortunately, Cameron lost the plot in the 90s. He did a great job with Aliens, but he's made nothing of any merit since. Smurfs in Space don't count.
It's a grand tradition to eschew technology and live the simple life. We have monks and Buddhists who've been doing that for thousands of years. These Engineers seem to have taken it to a higher level. They're probably more interested in contemplation and reflection than watching DVDs or doing nutsy things like building shopping malls full of designer clothes. As an Engineer I'd be tempted to drop a few ampules myself on our ridiculous culture.
The way they cheered the arrival of the Croissant was like the crowds that greeted the return of the Apollo 11 crew on Earth. I'd like to know what's really going on. More movies, please.
Hicks. By far. Best protagonist is any action film in my opinion.
I think they choose the life-style of appearing low-tech although it does seem like there is a lot of tech going on around them that is not obvious to us and our conception of 'tech'.
@Kethol: Dallas, the ship's captain, most certainly did break quarantine protocol. He brought Kane back and demanded that Ash "just open the goddamn door". It is, however, believable. People are not robots.
Nit-picking is easy to do, and in the internet age the world is full of armchair critics. It was an easier ride in 1979.
Mandatory Synthetic. :)
Space Romans
^Fuck yeah!, giant space greco-romans!, 300 style!
Great topic! Upvoted!
My very favorite character is definitely Bishop.
Actually, I just bought a new car and named it Bishop.
Bishop is just a good person who puts up with a lot of disrespect yet faithfully looks out for the well-being of others, even when he himself has suffered considerably.
I think he is the character I both relate to and aspire to emulate.
I recently got the book "Aliens: Bug Hunt" (I bought it because I saw it had a Bishop story in it) and I when I read the story "Broken" about Bishop it actually made me cry and just made me like and relate to him even more.
Actually, I find his death in Alien 3 just really unbearable. I've said it before but, if anyone can write a fan-fiction with a better outcome for him, I'd be really really happy to read it.
I'd write one, but sadly I can't write stories with happy endings.
David/Walter, Tennessee, Bishop, Mr.Weyland, Hudson, Lope, Daniels, Shaw, Kane and Ash
Christopher Nolan please
Ripley in aliens since thats when i think her character peaked
I embedded those videos for ya, miss Moon. Wonderful post, i'll feature it awhile. x
Ridley Scott's films, including Alien, have always been detail oriented. People will find something to nitpick, but I thought the budget was well-utilized.
'I remember bracing myself for the backburster scene but because it was soo over-the-top cgi it didn't look real and hence was not frightening.'
I think that the backburst scene is shocking, I like it very much. And the background music is awesome in it. I don't feel the CGI, but it is only my opinion. :)
VivisectedEngineer - 'Would your video focus on a specific character?'
No, it wouldn't. I'd use them as background...
'...but I know Röyksopp used to have this song called "Remind Me" which had a video that...'
Yes, I know it. That's a very old song. :) I think you'll like the ones linked by me.
agreed, considering the sub-par heavy-handed cgi and lack of "practical effects" that took the fear and horror out of the film. I remember bracing myself for the backburster scene but because it was soo over-the-top cgi it didn't look real and hence was not frightening.
I loved the film but my one gripe is the use of visual effects in the film
James Cameron's Aliens is a movie I can't watch. The only sequel I can watch is Alien3. I'm glad that Ridley is giving us a set of prequels that explains where the xenomorph comes from. A creature with acid for blood is genius. A queen with a head that is 5 times bigger than the rest of the body is stupid. Way to go James Cameron. What is your next act of stupidity, more Terminator movies................
