IRaptus - It would be awesome.
VivisectedEngineer - LOL, I put the digital HD release date Aug 1 everywhere in the topics, I'm sure some members hate that I did so, but now I can see it can be useful. :)
I think you are right cuponator3000 in that we are looking at a smaller budget sequel to Covenant, but my fear is that it will be a trap. They are going to need a very innovative writer to pull off a Xeno-heavy, character-driven storyline with ideas that haven't already been done in Alien and Alien3.
FOX need to ask themselves; does the franchise really need another claustrophobic suspense horror Alien film.
The answer is no.
Alien, Alien 3 and even Alien: Isolation have well and truly satisfied that scope of the Alien experience.
They really need to go Super-massive! Go epic!
With David's actions in Covenant they have an opportunity to have an almighty Engineer conflict seeking vengeance against the genocide of their people. Perhaps the faction that was pushing for the destruction of humanity in Prometheus now have the catalyst to sway the other factions into action!
I want to know it all lol I can see where you're coming from because then it's up for speculation but it's been 35 years. I want to know why it crashed there and what the space jockey's goal was.
Actually, I don't want to see the derelict/SJ crash on LV 426. I want at least some mystery. Watching Alien would lose some of its mystery that way.
It would be great to see a final entry (or two I suppose, who knows) to Ridley's prequels that goes all out with effects, Engineers, Xenos, David, Daniels, Tennessee, and whoever else ends up getting screentime. I would give up so much to see that! Alas, it seems like Fox will continue to close the window for Scott's success. The same, or an even smaller budget, seems most likely for another film, so the species war and huge show seems to be a stretch.
One thing that could be good, is with a smaller budget, characters and a more cohesive story may be a bit more important than forcing EVERYTHING into one film. Maybe Ridley and the writers end up being forced into making a bit smaller affair, almost getting back to the way Alien had to be made.
To be clear though, I am 100% for seeing a truly EPIC CONCLUSION to the prequels that started with Prometheus
@VivisectedEngineer You bet your fur? That's what the kids always say (It reference) lol I would assume your Youtube pre-order would be the 1st. I'm going through Amazon myself lol
AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! Does that mean my Youtube pre-order will be available August 1st!?
If not, then how do I get the digital version on August 1st!? You can bet your bottom dollar I'm watching Covenant on August 1st if there's a way!!!
...Also, I guess I don't actually know if Ati's a she..."Ati" sounds like a girl's name to me, but I think also I tend to assume everyone's a "she" unless there's some specific indication to the contrary.
Is Ati a she? I assumed a he.
@VivisectedEngineer Ati is talking about the digital release which is August 1st. I'm highly considering picking it up as well since the 15th is so far off lol
They should blow us away with a planetary Engineer conflict, perhaps on Origae-6. We get more of the engineers, get a few epic space battles, xenomorph carnage, an Ultramorph perhaps. Perhaps this encounter leads to the formation of the USCM?!
Engineers get wiped out, except for one ship that crashes on LV426.
A L I E N
would be an epic conclusion to the prequel trilogy
That makes sense. Well, trust me, my interest in the sequel isn't going to die down. But, once it gets closer to the release date I'll probably disappear from the forums for a while, so I don't form any expectations.
Also, do you have any idea what Ati is talking about with August 1st?? Did she make a typo or is it actually possible to see Covenant before the 15th??
If so, I'm calling up all my friends right away and bribing them with pizza to come over to my place for a back to back Prometheus - Covenant viewing.
Ati may I ask what you are studying?
VivisectedEngineer I totally agree :-) I'm just trying to keep interest in the sequel alive lol
@Ati
August 1st!? August 1st!? I thought it wasn't coming until August 15th!? WHAT'S THIS ABOUT AUGUST 1ST!?
:D :D Awesome!
But August 1 is here... ok, almost... so you don't have to wait much.
Lol, Ati , I actually tried to see it more than that. I was driving to the edge of my city to the only theater that was still playing it.
On the 6th time, when tried to see it, the ticket attendant (who'd become a bit familiar with me and my obsession) somewhat smugly told me that Covenant was "gone forever" from the theater. T_T
'Somehow, with Covenant everything just clicked for me. It was like...the best movie I ever saw. The very next day I re-watched Prometheus. Ultimately, I went back to the theater to see Covenant four more times.'
VivisectedEngineer - Wow! :) I remember you told that you had seen five times, but I'm forgetful, and I'm surprised every time you mention.
Well, if anyone out there wants to use my idea for a fan fiction, please feel free to do so!! Lol, yes, David is very Patrick Bateman-esque.
@Ati
Oooh! Must have been an interesting topic to research. ...Wish I could write a thesis on the Alien universe, lol. I haven't seen Facehuggers around here much lately??
sherris - No, I didn't. I don't remember them. Interesting idea! The answer is on the table before our noses? :) You can't imagine how much I would like to rewatch the movie in high def!
Honestly, I am trying really hard to not want anything specific.
I LOVED Covenant. The people who were unhappy with Covenant I think it's because they wanted something very specific and didn't get it.
When I walked into the theater to watch Covenant for the first time, I had a completely open mind. I knew it came next after Prometheus but I hadn't seen any trailers and I didn't have any attachment to or expectations for it, I just saw it on a whim.
Somehow, with Covenant everything just clicked for me. It was like...the best movie I ever saw. The very next day I re-watched Prometheus. Ultimately, I went back to the theater to see Covenant four more times. Bought the novel. Re-watched the whole Alien series and loved it way more than ever.
I'm not going to walk into the theater expecting to recreate my Covenant experience. I don't think people should be expecting to recreate their "Alien" or "Aliens" or "Alien 3" experiences.
I have seen some really amazing ideas for the next movie, both here and on Reddit, but I'm trying really hard not to get too attached to any of them.
What if you walk into an art museum hoping to see a really specific painting you've only ever imagined in your mind? You're definitely going to be disappointed. I just want to sit back and enjoy the art with an open mind.
VivisectedEngineer - Facehuggers recommended the movie, and I mentioned that my uni thesis is about books by Ellis. But my fav is The Informers.
'...do you think we should leave it to mystery?'
No, we shouldn't in my op. I would like to know more about everything. The questions you ask should be answered in the next/last(?) movie, no doubt.
I hope it will be a movie which gives everything the fans want. I hope it wull satisfy every group of the fandom.
September is so far away, I would like to know the official plans now, but I'm sure before the Japanese release they won't tell anything about the future of the AU.
Closing this thread, as the content has been deleted. Facehuggers seems to no longer be on site.
VivisectedEngineer yeah that would make total sense! All the sketches = various cloned Shaw experiments.
I'd love to do the fanfiction for it, but I don't like using other peoples characters. But Im sure someone on here could, and should, go for it ;) ;)
I don't think it is was me who suggested American Psycho in this case. But I have seen it, it's a great insight to how psychopaths operate and think....I'm assuming this relates to David's psyche?? Good film!
No more of those characters. No more James Cameron. And that AI idea is really boring. I think the David arc is much more interesting and not rehashing an alien idea with an "evil" AI. Sigourney Weaver was a producer on Alien 3 and so why doesn't anybody ask her why she continued with the script we saw. More to the point the assembly cut. At that point of the franchise if she wanted to have those characters in 3 it would have happened..............
Also, IRaptus, was it you who recommended American Psycho to me? Someone on this forum recommended it. I watched it and rather liked it.
Thanks!! It makes sense, right?? After all, David is into genetic engineering. Plus, consider all those sketches! "Shaw" mutilated in a variety of mutually exclusive ways.
So far we've assumed that assortment of sketches indicated David's potential plans as he sort of thought "...decisions, decisions..."
But, maybe all of them actually did happen. Multiple Shaw clones: multiple experiments. (...Come to think of it...is this a happier solution?? Well, at least according to this theory our Dr. Shaw might still be alive, lol).
Maybe someone could at least write it up in a fan fiction. A lot of characters in the Alien universe seem to get empty and hollow demises! (Aliens was doing it way before Game of Thrones made it cool!)
Empty and Hollow demises never used to bother me at all, but lately I find myself trying to contrive some happier resolutions. I guess it's hormonal.
Carrie Henn only ever acted in that one role and has said she has no intention to ever act again, and hasn't. She is a school teacher and child development professional. She's not looking for work.
Although Im sure Lance Henrikson would jump at the chance to be in any new Aliens film but he is way to aged to reprise his role as Bishop, unless they use him as a voice actor/narrator which could be cool.
David's mind state reminds me a lot of Giger's. I feel Ridley is using him as a tribute to Giger and his contributions to the franchise.
sherries im guessing that would have included filming the prologue and Take me home country roads clips?
VivisectedEngineer that's a very neat solution! Her demise seems empty and hollow, and sadly I think that's all we ever get, but Id definitely be open to your solution.
Very interesting! Including the Spacejockey's chair is a nice touch. But the ending has to avoid being predictable. Everybody now thinks David is on the Spacejockey's chair, that is why that is not the right way to go. If it is an engineer or someone else, the reason behind them being there and the reason for the crash need to be hard to predict.
In the very least David tortured Shaw, it says as much in the Novel and artist instagram.com/matthatt0n says he was told the same, read through his posts to get an idea of David's mindset. It's very bleak. (You'll have to pick through the posts, I can't link the exact one where he says it)
Fantastic!
I MUST HAVE that costume!
@Vivisected --- why not? That sounds totally plausible. At least as plausible as Space faring scientists taking off their helmets in unknown atmospheres...
I know how she could be brought back! The vivisected Shaw we saw on the table could have been a clone of her (with accelerated growth rate). Maybe David made and experimented on a few Shaw clones.
The real Shaw has still been alive somewhere this whole time.
(Next can someone come up with a better fate for Bishop?)
@ali81 "just for AVPR fox owes us big time"---lol so true.
But seriously, going to your paragraph above about Fox remedying the directions gone in A:C, and "opening their wallets" then I highly doubt we'll see them open up for Ridley again. Sad but true. Prometheus, while not understood by most of the masses and criticized because of it, was a pretty big hit and left a HUGE bunch of room for exploration. A:C on the other hand was a bombastic mess obviously overinfluenced by the "need" (?) for "Xenos". The action-oriented won out, and you see what we got. So in the long run it hurt the series more than anything due to "our" collective desire to have another "monster" movie. If it were implemented better, I can see how a wonderfully made movie based onEngineers AND xenos could've flourished. In fact, we've seen so much great fan fiction on here that would've given us such. Alas, Fox went "in house" and gave us a cooked script and told ridley to make it. Period.
So I doubt there will be any more "wallet opening" unfortunately. BUT, the segueway into "Alien" deserves something big, so maybe some private investors or passionate film financiers will provide. We shall see.
I wonder if they have filmed some extra scenes or something similar to "The Crossing" only describing more of what went on?
For instance, the circumstances that lead up to the signal being transmitted by Shaw in the pilot chair.
What David learns of "their ways" or even the whole truth on Shaws demise.
My thoughts are that N.R was on set for a few weeks and a few things came out suggesting she had a minor role, but really she wasnt even in the film. So that is where my hope comes from. The fact she was supposedly on set 2 or 3 weeks. I dont know much about the industry but if you work on a tight schedule as they do, then a lot could be achieved in that time.
Just watched Alien: Resurrection again....
Starting to think this is my favorite Alien movie. Just amazing. Would like to see something like that again.
I'd support a soft reboot:
As I stated before: No CGI, 70mm FILM, Practical effects, low budget 30 million.
Just finish the David trilogy first! Please.
