My take on the crews indifference to the facehuggers is that i think they're pretty used to death. 65 years. I'm certain there's been casualties. I'm guessing at intervals there have been crew replacements
I'm simultaneously hopeful and concerned that the Romulus sequel will catch up with David. Loads of potential. Plenty can go wrong. I personally feel the LV 426 derelict should remain a mystery though
The xenomorph patiently stood right in front of the captain yet does not kill her (!) trips her with its tail (?) allows her to get back up on her feet (!!) and she successfully runs away in the worst Disney chase scene since Leia and the bandits in the terrible Obi-Wan series. The xenomorph charges after her way faster than any human could possibly run yet she outruns it. I get that some characters have plot armor but this is ridiculous. First Hermit and now this captain avoid getting killed in encounters with the xeno despite being served on a silver plate. Who writes this?? Yes she does get killed at the end so I guess the xenomorph realized it's a killing machine after all.
Also in the beginning of the episode no one seems to react a lot to the fact that two of their crew members were facehugged and one of them (previous captain) having his whole throat melted by acid. That young kid even made jokes in this inappropriate situation. It's so off-putting and unrealistic despite that I really try my best to suspend my disbelief at all times but this is Idiocracy-level idiotic.
Morrow singlehandedly carried this episode and just barely saved it from being almost unwatchable.
Nitpicks (and there are many) include the "perfect organism" xenomorph (well not anymore thanks to Disney) struggling in a fight against a possessed human, the editing with occasional scene fade outs killing any ounce of suspense, Ikea-quality glass cylinders that are supposed to contain highly dangerous organisms, hentai tentacle monster tapping the glass to warn the scientist (lol), a junior/trainee engineer so shockingly stupid I'm surprised he even manages basic daily routines, and so many throwbacks to Alien that even Fede Alvarez' love letter Romulus fade in comparison.
The good parts were the scenes with Morrow, some impressive CGI (especially the facehuggers and the xenomorph) the shootout scene against the traitor and the appearance of the infected senior engineer, looking like he came straight from The Thing.
This series is like a high-budget YouTube fan film. Severely flawed yet occasionally entertaining.
Oh, true that is quite possible, the acid burn being from when they tried removing the Facehugger off the captain. That makes sense.
The tick aliens though – they do pose a serious risk, if they get to a body of water, no telling how aggressive they could multiply and spread.
I love this franchise so:rnrnrnAlien: love this one to death. I would say it is in my top 10/20 of all timernrnrnAliens: Loved it though since I liked the quieter original this has to go 2nd.rnrnrnPrometheus: People love to hate on it but I love this film. the music is great, the plot is good and the visuals are awesome. I get the complaints around this one, but I don't care the movie would've played out the same. I like them building on the backstory.rnrnrnCovenant: This one is weird. I like it but I think less than Prometheus which bummed me out a bit. At the same time it sort of let me know that it had become a trilogy about David. I know people don't care but the possible sequel to this movie is one of my most anticipated films. The way it ended I hope it set up some full planet horror hunger games deal and end David in style. I've thought about this too much lolrnrnrnAlien 3: I hate this one. The ending sequence is I think iconic and it has a lot of other stuff that is visually iconic, but I just don't like it. It is a tie between Resurrection. I like this one's story a bit more.rnrnrnAlien Resurrection: I saw this one as a kid and I think it was my first theater Alien film or at least the one I recall going to. I like the director a lot and the style of this movie though the story is too cheesy for me to care. I still rewatch it.rnrnrnhappy wheels
I read the book before I saw the movie. The eggs in this movie are small and they had a barrier over them which I didn't see in any other movie. The traveler was gigantic, way bigger than the engineers.
I honestly thought at first the ocellus was trying to warn her. Then I realized it was distracting her. It's frightfully intelligent. I think the acid could have been from the failed removal of the facehugger off the captain.
After thinking more about it I think the acid burn on the floor is from the failed facehugger removal on the captain. They just decided to tell us about it rather than show us as Alien did with Kane. T. Ocellus was in my humble opinion first trying to distract and then trying to warn the lady science officer about letting the space ticks loose. I think the eyeball was trying to get the scientist to leave its lid loose but the signals got crossed. But the eyeball must have succeeded in part because it was able to escape. I think the eyeball is intelligent enough to see the danger of those space ticks running loose. They may end up being a future "black plague" type event because their embryos can be injected into water.
One of the references is Alien: The Role Playing Game. I'm guessing there. By my count I think you can see roughly five pyramids on LV 233. So there has to be at least three juggernauts left behind. Not even the Fire and Stone series took those into account. At least three Juggernauts for sure. More than enough for David to play with and also – a setup for a potential escape for the Human characters. Imagine, the Spage Jockey in Alien (1979) was actually a HUMAN who escaped David's carnival of horrors on LV-223, but didn't know they had been incubated with an Alien beforehand. Commandeers a Juggernaut, somehow manages to fit inside the biotech pressure shit attached to the chair, tries to escape not knowing that ship carries a cargo full of eggs. It would be a stretch for sure since the Jockey is HUGE and a Human would be tiny inside that suit. Fans would probably quit the franchise if it turned out to be a Human though 😂🤣 So nvm actually.A better idea is – Engineers come back to discover what David did on Planet 4 and track him down to LV-223 and a battle ensues by a faction of Engineers and David's army of various alien creations. Then, the last Engineer – maybe a BIGGER, God entity one, above the Engineers we saw in Prometheus and Covenant, is the Space Jockey and David gets the last laugh by unknowingly impregnating him before he leaves the moon.IMAGINE the connections you could make – imagine that Derelict was also on a mission to seed Earth with Aliens in RETALIATION for what David did to their sacred settlement on Planet 4! I'd get behind that. And then it showcases Humanity's Ascension into the universal hierarchy, of which Engineers and Mankind are vying for intergalactic dominance! This is the stuff I'd love to see played out on a grand scale.
I would like to see David get his after what he did to human beings and the engineer's home world.

Like your ideas. They connect things.
Was hoping the monsters got that female captain first. Her voice was like nails on a blackboard.
I wonder if they are aiming for a more light-hearted approach for this show, as compared to those Alien films. The tone and tempo somewhat gives me Alien Resurrection vibe.Yeah, I get Resurrection vibes as well. Not sure it’s intentional, given the pre-release interviews and sentiments but who knows.
I'm going to watch all the movies again starting with Alien. With your input, I can probably get a better picture of what's going on here.
I saw the origae 6 billboard now. Didnt know this as all. Cool to see another easter egg from Romulus. 😃
I also enjoyed episode 5 as it was the most "alien" so far. I think T ocellus is highly aggressive and even tried unsuccessfully to take over the xeno. I also wonder if it has hypnotic or telekinetic powers as I think it may have messed with the lady scientist's mind while she was feeding the "space ticks" and made her forget to put the seal back on the containment jar. We only saw two of those ticks in the earlier episodes but it sure looked like there were a lot more on the loose after the engineering apprentice died. I also don't recall seeing what caused the hole in the floor in the lab. That seems to have been created before the advent of the xeno that we see creating havoc on the ship. So was there another xeno that we haven't seen yet or did I miss something?
I too thought the Ocellus was trying to warn her. I think it was smart enough to perceive that the crew were vital for its safe transport to wherever it was going and then dying or letting other hostile organisms loose would pose a problem. I’m fully convinced it was trying to warn her but also convinced the Ocellus only cares about itself and its own self interests. It’s calculated so Xeno poses bigger threat than Humans. Had it won the battle with the Xeno, I wonder how it would have acted.
But you bring up a very good point – how did the acid hole get there. You’re right, no Aliens had got injured or loose or cocooned there as far as we know… Plot “hole”… 😂
I originally thought Wendy was the one rejecting her body, but it looks like Nibs is the one it's happening to. That, or she is somehow in communication (or being controlled) with the eye monster, like Wendy is for the Xenomorph. I wonder if each of the kids will connect/communicate with each of the monsters, there's one for each of them I think.rnAlso, this made me laugh so hard lol.Nibs is definitely not adapting well to being a hybrid. If you look back at episode 2 at the 26:30 mark the eyeball monster actually touches Nib's face with its tentacles. On first watch I thought Nibs caught with her hands and avoided further contact but she didn't. I can't claim credit for spotting this - someone on YouTube caught it first. But I wonder if the eyeball was able to implant something much like Morrow did to Slightly. At the very least Nibs was deeply shaken by the whole experience. I also wonder how Prodigy knows that adults don't adjust to the transition to being a hybrid. The company might have had a few unsuccessful prior experiments to come to this conclusion.
Plus she's acting aggressive now. She wasn't that way before that thing touched her. If she's a robot, how can that thing do anything to her?
I'm all for it. I just hope it doesn't connect to the LV 426 Derelict like he's suggested in the past. Leave that a mystery. I don't think answer to that Will ever satisfy. I'm curious about Origae 6 being acknowledged in Romulus. I had to track down the image (thank you Reddit), look far right. Was Origae 6 colonized after all? Did David actually go there?Wait, how did we miss the Origae-6 reference in Alien: Romulus?! I missed that Easter egg – that is a pretty big deal. Or is it simply the company recruiting for that mission again after the Covenant went off course? Enough time would have passed surely... That distinct deserves its own topic, imo. Thank you for sharing that!
I'm going to watch all the movies again.
Yes, follow up on Covenant so we could finally (hopefully) get some well deserved closure. Leaving Daniels and Tennessee in the freezer for evil David to plan his experimental cooking is just foul lol. Have David cornered by a pissed off mob of surviving colonists armed with colonial farming tools, and let them go full medieval on his milky android ass. Shred him to bits and blow him out the airlock through his favorite flute to the tune of Einzug der Götter in Walhall by Das Rheingold Prodigy Remix.*Credits roll*That's quality writing right there. Anyway I can't stand David but that's a testament to how well Michael Fassbender portrays the vile mastermind. It would also be a perfect opportunity to flesh out his motives beyond passionately creating, philosophing and destroying. Wickedness aside he's an interesting multifaceted character not entirely unlike Tony Soprano or Patrick Bateman and surely he must've evolved a lot during the journey towards Origae-6, his own giant canvas for sure.Realistically though I don't think a sequel will happen. Will Michael, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride be interested at this point, 8 years after the release of Covenant? Maybe, hopefully. Who knows but fingers crossed that it'll happen and more importantly that it will at least be above average.
I would like to see a sequel. I don't like dangling threads. Would prefer consistency and all questions about the movies answered once and for all. Hoping they do it soon.
I honestly thought at first the ocellus was trying to warn her. Then I realized it was distracting her. It's frightfully intelligent. I think the acid could have been from the failed removal of the facehugger off the captain.
I also thought it was trying to warn her. Then I watched it again and saw how it distracted her.
My favorite episode so far too. My only nitpick was already addressed by an interview with Noah Hawley and that was how poorly Boy Kavalier handled the sabotage.
My favorite episode also. It was like watching an Alien movie. No teenagers and boring storylines. I hope it continues that way.
What is the Origae 6 reference in Romulus? I missed the easter egg 😯
I havent watched it yet but my popcorn is ready. Cant wait. :p
good to hear it’s one of the best episodes.

I would. I grew up Kenner alien figures in the 90s. I have a neomorph plush
I hope our grandchildren aren't old by the time they finish these movies.
Ick! Who would give that to a kid?
I thought David created that horror.David never made them. He only imitated. There's too much evidence in Prometheus and Alien that debunks David as their creator.
I am going to watch all the Alien movies again. After reading some of the responses here, I might have a better understanding. Thank you, everyone.
I already did and my question was answered.
I like this shot; it reminds me of NECA Cougar Alien.
Still dislike the front of the head tho.
I can't edit my post so I will add that I don't want another David movie, a movie where he plays a big role because I'm honestly done with that.

"... it was Fox executive Tom Rothman who ultimately put his foot down and removed that aspect from the film..."A lot of times the studios make the movies worse, but this was for the better. I vomit at that idea
Agreed – I'm usually disappointed by studio interventions but in this case it probably saved the franchise – even though the film was still the worst of the series. Lol

Yeah, let's keep the topic on topic! @Love Sci Fi, please keep questions / comments on topic and let's not get too off track. Questions are great and encouraged! But as Neomorph and ninXeno426 have pointed out - your comments don't really follow the natural flow of conversation for this specific topic. Thanks for understanding! Ask all the questions you like in your own topic - that's what the feature is for! :)
Ew....... Also, speaking of gross things, I was on reddit and came across a post that pointed out that the cocooned people around the Queen were all men, men who had tubes coming out of the bottoms of the pods, and those tubes went into the "vagina" of the Queen.... They were theorizing that the men were the fathers of the newborn.
Wait what?! 😂 Is that speculation or is that actually another weird aspect of that scene? What an abomination, that film really emphasized the dangers of cloning and tampering with biological processes we have very little understanding of.
Ew.......

It's a big wtf moment right down to the design. I actually do kinda like the moment where it mimics David's cross pose but that's about it. I think it has more to do with the score honestly.
What reference did Xenopedia use to mention Origae-6 was overdue for colonization? I suspect David took the ship to another location – I would be willing to bet he took the ship BACK to LV-223, knowing there's a treasure trove of Black Goo housed away in the Engineer pyramids, ships to get off world if need be and an entire planet ecosystem to let his creations run loose on.
Imagine a sequel to Covenant going back to LV-223?! It could coincide with a rescue mission Weyland Industries or Weyland-Yutani likely would have sent in search for the Trillion dollar Prometheus mission. The crew of Covenant and Walter were aware of the lost Prometheus mission meaning the company was well aware of it and its employees were well aware also.
Go back to LV-223, discover David's legion of monsters, maybe an adult form of the Deacon! It would be a fangasm overload lol
