Did you catch that short cut-scene involving a Neomorph in the Alien: Covenant trailer? It was only visible for a split-second and if you merely blinked, you probably missed it. In this first segment of Alien: Covenant Trailer Analysis, we break down this one scene in particular - focusing on our first official look at a baby Neomorph!
Our First Look at a Neomorph
Our first look at the new Neomorphs in Alien: Covenant takes place between the 1:33 and 1:35 mark in the trailer. During what's obviously an attack inside the Covenant landing shuttle, one of the crew open fire on an adolescent Neomorph. This attack leads to a massive explosion - the one which likely destroys the landing craft a few of the Covenant crew used to land on the planet's surface. Here's the sequence I'm referring to:
Notice during the second flash, a body of a small, pale-skinned Alien is partially visible on the floor? That's a baby Neomorph. Here's a close-up:
As you can see the Alien has small spikes located on its back. It also has a shorter cranium compared to the Xenomorph and Protomorph. It also seems to be perched on its back legs (could be feeding on its host's corpse in this scene).
The overall design, from what we can see looks to have been inspired greatly by this unused Prometheus Alien concept:
The adult version, might look something similar to this:
Of course, as new trailers and movie stills release, we may get a better look at this new Alien breed. But until then, this short glimpse is all we have to work with.
Neomorph birthing methods
Recent Alien: Covenant footage descriptions (which featured footage not shown in the trailer) mentioned two Neomorph birthing scenes. One involved a Neomorph bursting from the back of a male crew member (which was teased in the trailer) while another involved a Neomorph crawling its way up the throat of its host - exploding their head to break free. It's unlikely that scene will be featured in any future trailers and will remain an exclusive sneak peek for those who attended Fox's 2017 film showcase event - as it was extremely graphic and gruesome.
